GoZips88
Looks like Dayton is selling upper-level tickets cheap ($3 each; click here) to put butts in seats over the holidays. Figure about $45 in gas round-trip though from Akron.
Marty McFly
My wife and I gave serious consideration for heading down there, but the timing with it being the first full work day of the New Year, there was no way that I could get out of work without taking a vacation day. If it was a Saturday, we would be down there in a heartbeat.
RowdyZip
I'm leaning pretty strongly towards making the trip down there. If anyone else would like to carpool and split gas, contact me here via PM or look for me at BW3 tomorrow before the game. I'd have room for two more, 3 if you cram em in. Hope to see you all there. This news just in: Apparently the Dayton game has been cancelled by coach Dambrot. I guess he was watching ESPN2 today, and determined that playing a team of Dayton's caliber just didn't fit into his scheduling strategy of staying in the bottom-50 in SoS. I understand we will play Tiffin instead.

Flyer1407
Hey guys, I'm really nervous about the game Wednesday night. Our 2nd best player Chris Wright played less than 15 min. against Pitt and will likely see a lot more action Wednesday night. Brian Roberts is an All-American candidate who averages over 18 a game and is best when the bright lights are on. He had 28 @ Louisville and 31 against Pitt, both wins. Dayton is 2-0 against top 15 teams beating Louisville 70-65 @ Freedom Hall and beating Pitt 80-55. Our RPI is currently at 9.If anyone is interested the Pitt game is being replayed on ESPNU Monday morning at 9 am. If anyone has questions feel free to ask. Anyway Dayton is now #20 in the AP poll....I thought Akron didn't play teams unless their RPI was higher than 200? AdiosPlease don't judge an entire fanbase because of a few posters on a fan messageboard. Anyways, we already knew Dayton has beaten top 25 teams this year. We all heard about how they beat Pitt. We know you guys are ranked ...we get it. I have no questions about your team, except for one: I have seen some fans wondering wether you guys will even play Wright against us. Are they serious? How bad is he hurt? Or do they just think that they can overlook this game? OK, maybe that was three questions.Anyways, What the hell are you talking about with our SOS? We only play teams that are willing to give us a home game for playing them, like you guys will next year. Our opponents' agerage RPI is 161 so far, and playing Dayton will boost that little stat quite nicely. 161 is actually pretty average, since there are 342 Division 1 teams. It's right in the middle. We would play Pitt at home, too, if their coaches weren't scared shitless to play us in our own gym. Same with WVU, and same with Cinci. Same with WVU, and same with Cinci.1st to answer your questions about Wright...he has had an injured an ankle for some time. He did not play last Sat. in a 91-74 win over Loyola (MD). He then only played 14 min. against Pitt where he was a game time decision. Gregory said after the game that he was close to 100% but was just rusty because of not practicing for the last 2 weeks. I think you'll see him play around 20 minutes Wednesday.I didn't mean to take a swipe at your schedule but was upset by the one poster.I have never heard Dayton won't just go play somewhere. Last year they went to N. Carolina. Usually There is always a few marquee non-conference games at the Arena. Obviously other BCS schools seeing Pitt come in and get beat by 25 wont help. We also played a "home" game last year in Cincinnati against Louisville because they refused to come to the Arena. As an outside viewer on the Akron and MAC most people see it as crazy that Akron demands home and away from people like a Pitt or UC or WVU when they average between 2,000 and 3,000 a year. Most people see Miami as the model for gaining national respect for the MAC and their program. The ESPN.com article made Akron seem like they were owed something and most people aren't sure why. I'll be the 1st to say I was glad when I saw that Dayton would return the favor and play at Akron and Toledo next year. I don't want to make an excuse for for a BCS school not coming, but why would they until Akron improves the rest of their schedule. It's a lose lose for them, Akron is 10-2 but has an RPI of 130, if they came and played it wouldn't help them at all. Anyway sorry for the rant. I just want to say Dayton fans are extremely worried about this game after beating Pitt and having the A10 opener with #23/22 Rhode Island coming in the week after.I think you guys have a great team, but are still a relative mystery because of the level of competition so far. It should be a pretty full crowd. ud averages 12.4 and the joint holds 13.4.

I would say it's safe to get a ticket the day of the game, but you can get them for $3 now by calling the UD Box Office (937) 229-4433 or http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/16003F1D...mp;minorcatid=7If you get them now you might get better seats by beating the walk-up crowd. Quick FYI, the only seats available are in the 400 sections.

The Flyers ARE afraid to schedule a home and home series with Wright State and I can't blame them given what the Raiders do fairly routinely to good teams who come to the Nutter Center. Regardless, UD regularly draws excellent crowds. I suggest you purchase tickets before you make the trip.

Both?I am completely bored (and put to sleep) with those that speculate in advance about how great they are and about how they will dominate an opponent before anyone even steps on the court. Dayton has a very good team, and Akron's out of conference schedule could have been better, but the game is played on the court not in the fan's imagination beforehand. Be that a fan of Dayton or the University of Akron, as we have some posters that seem to believe we will clobber everyone we play and can't accept a close hard fought battle. ZippyRulz
Thanks for the visit and info, Flyer. You're just stating some facts about your team which I don't take as gloating or predicting a dominating win (heck, you even admitted you're nervous). I think we will give you guys a great game and the upset is always possible. Word is your website will be carrying free video of the game which is cool. I hope our program can rise to that level someday. Good luck.

UADavid
Any comments on the big write up in the beacon about tonights game with Dayton. Playing a ranked opponent on the road is a big game for this team. It's good to see the home town paper following the Zips. I wonder if they'll send one or two reporters plus a photographer to the game to cover the action?
Flyer1407
Hey guys quick FYI for those driving to the game.....We have about 6 in. of snow down here, the roads should be ok by then....As long as you can take 75 and get off at the Arena you should be fine. But careful driving in and around Dayton tonight. Good luck hope to see some Zip fans there!

johnnyzip84
I appreciate the Flyer perspective as well. I expect a close game, with UD escaping with a narrow win 82-78.This whole KD scheduling discussion, particularly the "home and away" aspect, has me curious about one thing. I realize that KD does not want to be in the habit of playing "BCS" schools always on the others team's home court. But does anyone know for certain whether KD is willing to play a "BCS" school at their place MULTIPLE times in exchange for a return visit to the JAR? Have we even tried to arrange any 2 for 1's or 3 for 1's with such schools?
