RootforRoo44
Trust me, I'm still living in the now and know that big things can be ahead for the ZIPS this year but I keep hearing and reading alot about next year. What do you all think? - Is next year the real rebuilding year?- Are we going to be better?- Are we going to at least be on par with this year?- Is this just the beginning of this program becoming a mid major "elite"? RootforRoo44
so i'm guessing the guy with the chair is Quade Milum, the blue one is Haminn Quaintance, the yellow on the left is you, and the yellow on the far right is me loving every second of it :-)
GP1
- Is next year the real rebuilding year?- Are we going to be better?- Are we going to at least be on par with this year?- Is this just the beginning of this program becoming a mid major "elite"?Question 1. No. The program is built. We do enough rebuilding. We need to start performing.Question 2. No. What you see is what you get. 20 wins a year is impressive.Question 3. Yes. What you see is what you get.Question 4. No. There is not enough community for any Zips program to become an elite at anything. That was easy enough. Blue & Gold
Next year we're gonna have 4 incredibly athletic guards - Steward, Humpty, Roberts & Sullivan plus a more seasoned McKnees - all of whom can handle the ball and score it. We'll also have Brett McKnight - he's gonna be a special player. But I think next year's success will ultimately depend upon the play of our 2 interior players, Chris McKnight & Sweich. If they both live up to their potential I think we'll be fine. I'm gonna really miss watching the trinity of Wood, Dials & Ced though! Gotta take advantage of having those 3 and enjoy watching every game this year!
Quickzips
If there is one thing I worry about for next year it is who is going to step up and be the leader of this team the way Rome and Dru did last year and the way Dials and Wood seem to be this year. I just don't see who that guy, or guys are going to be next year. Maybe we don't need a veteran, senior voice for the team, but I sure think it helps and I'm interested to see if anyone can step into that role. Valpo Zip
Say what you want about the athletism of Steward, Humty and the others, next year is a rebuilding/reloading year. That does not mean that we are going to end up with a losing record, but i don't see us being as good as this year and last. For the last 2 years, our rotation consisted of (Romeo, Dru, Dials, Cedrick, Wood, Linhart). All but Nate will be gone next year.Let's look at our recruiting over the last 5 years:2003: Rome. Dru, J-wood (Maybe the best recruiting class in Akron history)2004: Dials transfer, Bubba, Cedrick, Quade. Bubba was an all Mac freshman, Cedrick has also contributed in all 4 years.2005: Linhart, Rybak, Conyers. Ouch!!! In the third year, Linhart is the only who can be called a good contributer.2006: Chris Mcknight, in the second year, no good contributors from this class.I know people will jump and tell me how Conyers is a great deffender and McKnight has a great potential etc...I'm sorry, i want to see a player who can play and win games. Dru was handling the ball in his freshman year, Romeo was our best rebounder + offensive contributor in his sophmore year. Dials was a go to guy as a so. Same with j-wood. Linhart was winning games for us since day 1. Cedrick was always creating his own shot.I seriously hope to be wrong, but i am affraid that we will pay (next year), the price for 2 lousy recruiting years in (2005 and 2006). Both redshirted and so far both are contributing some. I expect they will contribute even more next year as sophomores.

Dont get me wrong- that guy has more will and determination that anyone on team. Bottom line is something is more seriously wrong physically ( knee?) than we know. One also has to be a bit disappointed with Quade. Come on now- 22 points one game and none the next?? But still time for this to be a special season. Maybe losing to CMU and a LONG bus ride home will impress that on them. btw- Is it official that Steward is a RS?
UAZipster0305
Let's squash this discussion while the season is still going on!...We have a good team and as we know, anything can and does happen in the MAC Tournament. So, we should be excited about the opportunity to go dancing and play in the post-season THIS YEAR!

So, we should be excited about the opportunity to go dancing and play in the post-season THIS YEAR!I think it is a fair discussion to have. Talent is an endless discussion on the football thread. My personal opinion is KD does a good job coaching a group of players with limited athletic ability for the level of basketball they play. 20 wins a year is pretty darn good....the athletic ability is not. Granted, a lot of those wins come against a laughable OOC schedule, but they still win and winning is better than losing any day of the week. For the record, Wood, Travis and Dru came here while Hip was still the HC. Let'sGoZips94
I think we are gonna be just fine. #1 if you look at the talent we have coming in its just phenominal.#2 we get Winthrop at home and go play in some big games home and away. #3 KD has this all planned out. He'll get these Zips ready for next year. #4 Focus on right now! next year is a long time away considering what we are playing for. Who knows going to the NCAA is gonna happen if we win the MAC tourney. Let's go Zips get back on the right track.
hoopla
i believe that next year wont be a rebuilding year the zips, but a year of growing pains. we will have talent next year without question, but we will not have a leader outside of linhart. i wont expect as many wins, but they will be talented and could beat anyone on any given night. but like it was said by lilroodude, lets focus on this year. we have a darn good team right in front of us and as the ability and mentality to win the MAC this year. I am excited for this team and I wish them well.
skip-zip
It would be a pleasant surprise if next year's team is as good as this year's team.Does anyone really believe that the incoming freshman will fill the shoes of Wood, Dials, Cedrick, and Quade? However, I still think that they can be a decent time. But it all depends on the post player development of Sweich, C. McKnight, and Bardo. GP1...winning 20 games a years is great. I agree. But next year's team will have a difficult time reaching that level.Without a doubt, it will be a rebuilding year.
Blue & Gold
KD has said repeatedly that you don't win with freshmen and sophomores. Next year we'll probably see that played out. Oh, well. It'll still be a fun team to watch and cheer for. It'll also be fun to watch them develop.
