Miami Postgame

I guess we normally don't start a postgame thread after every basketball game, but this one was HUGE. Maybe the biggest win of Dambrot's career. And now we've virtually locked up a bye. And without Jeremiah. It's a great night to be a Zip. I don't suppose we'll see Moullat on here tonight, after his prediction of the blowout  We almost got victimized again, by what Dambrot called the Miami Basketball Gods. How did Linhart's shot in the final minutes not go in? How did Bramos get that wild 3-pointed off the glass to drop, and the reverse layup drop? Those were both miracle shots. Cedrick's back...and we need him. And he got to hit two free throws at the end of the game to seal it. SWEET REVENGE.Nick...providing his usual floor leadership and emotional leadership...right when we need it the most.Chris McKnight....I'm telling you guys, we could not win games without Jeremiah if it wasn't for the way he has stepped up.Someone wanted to debate with me a couple of game ago that Quade getting a few baskets and a handful of rebounds is not enough. I say it is. And he did it again tonight. Keith gave total props to the Akron fans after the game. Some people suggested that this may be the only time the you could ever hear Miami's players getting booed as they entered the gym on their own floor. I want to know what happened at the end of the game, if anyone has more insight. A Miami trainer chasing one of the refs out of the gym?? A Miami assistant jawing with a plain dealer writer both at a timeout, and after the game?? Is this CLASSLESS or what?? We HAD EVERY RIGHT TO PROTEST HOW THAT GAME ENDED IN CLEVELAND LAST YEAR, and everyone from Akron handled the situation with TOTAL CLASS. Maybe certain things just speak for themselves.

And to think they say we complained last year, and this was only a regular season game. You really didn't expect them to admit they lost to us right? :P

apparently there is truth to these crazy happenings in good ol oxford....this from a poster on the conversation board for the game from espn.com.........."I won't speak of the huge win this is for Akron -- I just wanted to share a lovely story about classy Redhawk basketball. When the game ended, the Miami trainer ran down the tunnel after the officials and had to be physically restrained by police officers. The assistant head coach for Miami then went after a Plain Dealer sports writer, shouting at him during timeouts, and went in his face after the game and had to be restrained. LOL I'm not making this up. How EMBARRASSING." i would definitely like to know more about the restraining and such, b/c its down rght crazy...good win tonight/yesterday...gotta love karma...ced missed the free throws last yr in the final seconds...but nails them this year...at their place...gotta love irony

First of all -- congrats to the Zips on an awesome victory! Coming off a home loss to lowly NIU, then snaring back-to-back road wins vs. BG and the previously hot Miami is really impressive. Looking at the VCU game a week ago...to be honest...I'm concerned about getting crushed. Now I expect to win. Welcome back Ced!I've seen the banter about sitting Wood for VCU. Screw it...if he is healthy and can play, put him in. Like KD said, he's healthier now than he was several weeks ago. Do we want him coming in to the MACC series rusty and out of basketball shape? He's gotta get things going now. Great job by the UA fans at the game. On the radio it was tough to tell if the Zips made or missed a shot...the Zips cheering section probably came through louder than the Miami crowd. Zips gearing up for the Tourney....Woo hoo!BTW -- Anyone catch Ced's comments regarding ZipsNation after the game? Apparently he doesn't read it? ;) GO CED!!BTW2 -- If the Miami assistant yelling at Elton Alexander after the game called him a "Douche Bag," I can't fault the guy.

A Miami assistant jawing with a plain dealer writer both at a timeout, and after the game??
Nothing to it per EA himself. I sent him a 'wink, wink - mixing it up with MU assistants, eh?' e-mail and here's his reply ..."Very good friends with Miami coaching staff ... they were screaming at me to meet them later, after I got done with my work. We had been tossing hand signals all game across the court, but weren't communicating."As far as one of the assistants chasing an official and having to be restrained? As CK said, par for the course.Yeah, heard Ced mention ZipsNation last night on post-game. Did you hear Frenchy's comment? "Yeah, they get pretty emotional :mad_flame: over there." NO WE DON'T! :gun: YES, WE DO! :chair:

I understand the argument about playing J. Wood this Sat, but playing the game is not the same as rehabing exercises. We have pretty much secured a bye. Zips also have a week off before playing the next game(home vs Buffalo). Wait till OU game , then bring him back(slowly) VS OU. By the time the tournament rolls around, he should be ready.

Yes, but it's equally as important to not end up as the number four... and we haven't secured the 3-seed by a long shot.
Agree. That 3-seed would be great. Let the other East contenders beat up on each other. We were only 3-3 vs. the West but I'd much rather play some of them again than tangle with the East more than we have already. Play for that 3-seed.

I'm afraid that we'll still need to pull off one more big road upset, at OU, to get that #3 spot. And that's worth shooting for. I'd much rather play WMU in the semis than Can't State. Maybe we can finally get a Can't/Akron championship game.As far as Jeremiah is concerned, I'd rather see him return in Athens. It gives him another week to get ready. Sure, I understand that some people want to see him in a game as opposed to rehabing. But, I would hate to see him rush back and be lost for good. Plus, this bracketbuster game really means nothing now that we really have no legitimate chance at an at-large anymore.

I agree. Sit all the starters. Play Goddard 40 minutes, and play him at Center too. Who cares if we get waxed on national TV. I'm sure a win vs. VCU wouldn't help our NIT chances either.

What about the importance of success on a national stage like Bracket Buster saturday? The highlights of this game will be all over the ESPN channels, granted for only this day, but not looking past this year and the MAC tournament to consider how this affects recruiting, media attention, and respect for the MAC in general and the program specifically I think is short sighted. I want J Wood in the game if he is medically able to go, and being a family doc with an interest in Sports Med, I have to trust that the medical eval has been sound and J Wood knows his body and they can make a mutual decision. That said, I also can't wait for this game because VCU is the real deal, and they are coming to our house.

=>I am here. I take crow medium rare please!
I want to know what happened at the end of the game, if anyone has more insight. A Miami trainer chasing one of the refs out of the gym??
=>I sit near the tunnel where both happened. The guy chasing the refs was not a member of the basketball program. Rather, he was the 6th Man Club honorary coach of the game. Basically, just a fan who was randomly selected to sit at the end of the bench. He went a little nutty obviously.
A Miami assistant jawing with a plain dealer writer both at a timeout, and after the game?? Is this CLASSLESS or what??
=>The assistant coach was Associate Head Coach Jermaine Henderson. I saw him talking to a medium member (I guess it was Alexander per others in this thread, but I do not know what Alexander looks like, so...). It was right in front of me. I could not hear what was said. It looked like Jermaine was mildly upset about something (as opposed the 6th Man Coach of the Day above), but I do not think he was necessarily upset with the writer. My 2 cents.*******Enjoyed your Rowdies. I think they were instrumental in the victory. Totally made it a neutral court game...which sucked for us of course. Now, tell them they are no longer welcome back!

Hey Mollaut, why is there such little student support at the games?MAC champs last year, pretty decent program year in and year out, I don't understand.I'm a hockey fan, and watched your game against Michigan, and it seemed like there was tons of supports there.Do you think that kind of raises the bar for b-ball? Seriously, I would bet we were louder than the Miami fans.I have a few friends at miami, and they think it's kind of sad that no one is interested in basketball.Just wondering what you think...

It's a fan forum...we're *sposed* to be emotional. It's not like Frenchy never gets emotional about the Zips  I especially enjoyed Joe D's sarcastic remarks about "Harvard of the Midwest" and the lack of class of some MU fans at the end of the game.

I feel compelled to add my two cents worth.I confess that I went to the Miami game as a guest of the AK-Rowdies. And Rowdies they were, beautiful. Best Rowdie performance ever.Little vulgarity and plenty of trashing. The Rowdies had the entire arena (gym?) watching them and listening for the next outburst. In general, the Rowdies were much better behaved than the MU students. Or should I say, out numbered MU students. At one point during the game the MU students began chanting "community college, community college". What did the Rowdies do? They picked it upand ran with it. They referred to themselves as "community college" repeatedly after the taunt. Even asking the rhetorical question after the game,"how does it feel to get beat by a community college?"Speaking of the rift over the national anthem ... MU had some twit on a badly tuned electric gee-tar doing a piss poor imitation of Van Halen fumblingthrough a sad, unworthy rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. The Rowdies vocalized the last one third of the anthem in beautiful harmony. So well done was their emotional over taking of what is suppose to be a tribute to America, that a large number of Miami fans joined in.At the last line the Rowdies finished with "...home of the Zips" Sounded great to me. After all, the Rowdies, the Zips and even the MU folksare Americans. I found nothing offensive about their performance. Some of you know that I am an older person who happens to be a combatveteran. Semper Fi.At the half time MU drug out their truly sorry a$$ed men's glee club. Now I read post game that the amplifier failed to work. So what? In aquiet arena twenty men singing in harmony could easily be heard. Only, they could not be heard. mostly they mumbled. Sad.At three and a half minutes to the start of the second half, the Akron team came out on to the floor. Their appearance prompted a loud andlong cheer from the Rowdies. The Rowdies completely overwhelmed the lame glee club. If you read the MU board you will find a fewpathetic whines about coach Dambrot and the team interfering with the glee flub.Speaking of coach ... at one point before the game I suggested that the Rowdies chant "Charlie, Charlie" when coach Coles came out on thefloor. It was considered until one student pointed out that people might not realize that it was intended to be a heartfelt tribute to the seniorMAC coach. Charlie Coles is highly respected. There never any taunts directed at coach Coles.I was a bit late getting to the bus for the return trip. Bumped into a long time friend, coach Frank Jessie, who once was on Bob Huggins staff. As I approached the bus some jerk in a white Ford Explorer accelerated directly at me. At the last moment he swerved to avoid hittingme. He finished his brave attack by flipping me a redhawk. A number of Rowdies saw the incident. Finally, much to the glee of the bus full of Rowdies, our driver, "Joe", told us that the MU radio announcers said that there were at leasttwo hundred Akron Rowdies in attendance. It sure seemed so to the MU fans and team.Good win. Puts the Zips back on track.

On TV, you could REALLY hear "... home of the ZIPS!!!" Sounded GREAT!

=>Some say it is because hauckie has dwarfed basketball. The hauckie team does get 3 times as many students as basketball. Others blame it on Charlie Coles basketball. Too boring, blah, blah, blah. Yet, it is the same style Herb Sendek used in the mid-1990s and that Charlie used in his run the Sweet 16. During those times, students had to come 1 hour before the game to get a good seat.I think the problem is Miami overschedules during the non-league season resulting in poor records going into MAC play. Going into the 1st Akron game (1st MAC game), Miami was 6-6 overall after playing the #1 toughest schedule out of 341 teams per the RPI (Xavier, UD, UC, Wright St., Kansas, Illinois, Mississippi St., USC, S. Alabama, Louisville). Considering that most of those games were on the road, that really ain't that bad. Then Miami started the MAC on the road @ Akron and @ Ohio before coming home to play Can't. Boom...Miami is 6-9 and 0-3 in the league.

Mollautt, thank you for the solid assessment. Your post validates coach Dambrot's approach to OOC scheduling. Build a resume of decent lower high majors, upper mid majors and avoid going out to get one's brains beat out for a fistful of bucks. Fortunately the Zips can afford to buy games. This year the Zips boughthome games that included Wyoming.MU's loss to Kansas paved the way for MU getting their brains beat out several times. Any team (which included the Zips) that had the kahones to play a wide openrun and shoot game reaped the benefit of beating down the Redhawks. As a fan, that first game at the JAR was a treat. As a long time basketball fan it was in a word "painful".Miami played well at home. It was a dogfight. Both teams excelled and made for an entertaining hard fought game. It was truly a game that you wanted both teamsto win. There was no shame in losing that game. Fair well against Ohio and especially Cant. You have thousands of Zips fans cheering the Redhawks on.
