zippy5
Thats some great stuff!! I love the views that they showed from on top of the pressbox overlooking the field and the campus. Major PR for the University! One thing that intrigued me about the segment was this quote: "We will for the first time have authentic collegiate tailgating activities going on before and after the game," said Mack Rhoades, Athletic Director. That being said and considering the "rumors" of where tailgating will ACTUALLY be, I wonder if this is just a smoke screen to making it seem like it will or there are actual plans being made to open up tailgating to other areas around the stadium...I also liked the HUGELY outdated b-roll of game footage... Eh, That wasn't Mack Rhoades that said that...

Either way, all you guys thinking you have been doing authentic collegiate tailgating at Akron games have been deluding yourselves.
tbozeglav
Not sure who messed up here. I coped the quote from the website, so I think they FUBARed who actually said it.In regards to the past tailgating... never once did i say what we had at the RB was legit tailgating. I was merely saying that they keep saying we will finally have it yet we keep hearing rumors about them restricting tailgating to some location thats not even a parking lot. Bleacher Bum
I'm pretty sure I've been legitimately tailgating for the past 5 years, so I don't know what you guys are all getting at....

He said you hadn't done any authentic collegiate tailgating. Please consult your Official Collegiate Tailgating Manual for the distinction. ditchrider1
Did anyone notice the new stadium/complex rendering on the channel 3 website on the bottom right hand side? The dorms on exchange look different? They have a different set up almost like they were being built around Manny's? Also the brick design was different from the initial renderings on the stadium website. Now that Manny's is ready to be crushed how are they going to build it? which renderings are correct? who knows? And on the tailgating front...We did the best we could with what we were given! Plenty of time to improve on it now though! It's almost football time though!

They may have decided to change that part since Manny :john :john were just taken this month.

The block style dorms were before Ted Curtis put the finishing touches on the residence project (they will be of the same style as the honors and Exchange st dorms) and you will notice that in the stadium itself the north endzone facility is missing. The rendering is a stock photo that WKYC has. scottditzen
Awesome article/clip!!! I took the tailgating comment to mean for the first time "on campus." There mere fact that an emphasis is being made on the whole gameday experience (aka tailgating) makes me feel more optimistic. I don't want any open container violations lol.I hope this is the overwhelming sentiment for the "quiet" masses of sports fans here in neo... Why don't wait like the rest of to see the finished product instead threatening to sue UofA over sunshine laws because you want to steal UofA thunder to show the final rendering on your blog. He only beat UofA by couple of days instead of the weeks he pressed then to show him the renderings so he could post them on his blog by using Ohio Sunshine laws and UofA being a public university. Zipsrifle
I just wanted to inform everyone what "Official" tailgating means:1) You must register with the UAPD prior to your first tailgating event of the season to get a tailgating permit.2) You must purchase a season parking permit for $575 dollars from the athletic dept.3) Upon entering the parking lot, and showing your pass, the UAPD will search your vehicle to confirm that you have a maximum of 24 cans of beer and no liquor.4) You must show up at least 4 hours prior to kickoff.5) You must have a tailgate on a truck.6) Your license plate must have something Zips related written on it.7) You vehicle must have a horn that plays the Zips fight song8) The beer MUST be Old Milwalkee Light or Schlitz9) You will be required to have a Zips flag at least 40 ft high.10) You must put some stupid necklace made of small tires around your neck. That's it! Now, how many people did I have going on this one???
