I just logged onto the stadium cams. Its 8:45 Sunday night and there are some workers doing something to the side of the press box. That is dedication!
Working three shifts per day is a sure sign they are behind schedule. Second and third shifts are especially costly.
That logic is fairly sound, but you gotta remember that a lot of subcontractors are on the hook for a deadline. So, it's up to them to decide how much they are going to work, and whether it's within their budget to work people over. They put in bid for their work and if they go over it's their own problem. Some subcontractors could be behind, and others may not. What is worse, the general can be breathing down some of their necks because, of course, other subs can't even get in to do their work until others have finished certain things.
Working three shifts is very common in this type of project when you have a short timeline in this case from Feb 2008 through August 2009. The costs is built into the bid and Welty will have to pay UofA penalities if the stadium part is not done by 08/22 the promised delivery date. Welty also gets a bonus for delivering on 08/22 and that's another reasons he increased the manpower. The entire project is on schedule and the only delay is the installation of the glass which the project manager has said has taken longer then expected. He fully expects everthing to be ready 08/22 less floors two through four of the press tower which are classrooms and that timetable was always longer then the rest of the stadium project. The project is currently under budget due to the economy and that's why they're adding some things like the scrolling scoreboard on the upper deck. Welty workers are non-Union so their OT costs is not near as bad a Union construction company.
We've got a field, and we've got goalposts. Just let me know what size socket I need to bring and point me to the bolts and the bleachers and I'll install my seats for free. As far as I'm concerned, we're ready to play football!

Stadium for Humanity? Habitat for Football?I'll volunteer to paint some number and hang some sections signs, hell I'm willing to work on the video stuff too.

Concerning the scoreboard pillars, it most definitely appears that they are going to remain the Akron-blue steel. But I was walking around the stadium sight just last night and believe me, they look great just how they are!

Looks like some of the Zip players might be scoping out the stadium. A handful of athletic looking guys in shorts and T-shirts (and no hard hats) are next to the north end zone buiding, checking out the field and doing a lot of pointing to the tower. I think they like it!

It's almost 9pm, and they're still working on the stadium using a lift (putting glass up?)...Great to see them working so hard (and late). Can only mean one thing... (They're hurrying...)When does the score board go in?
Per the project Manager the scoreboards are due in this week. We should see them going up any day now.

Wow, I'm not sure if the cams exaggerate it, but it looks like it's poring in Akron right now. Hope this won't put them behind any farther.
The weather is pretty bad today. It's supposed to storm all week, too.At this point most of the construction should be happening indoors, though. Wiring, plumbing, etc.

Is everybody done freaking out about the stands getting finished now?
I'm still freaking out, big time. What I saw today has me concerned. The SE corner of the press box is getting torn apart. There's a pile of concrete rubble and chunks are getting torn out. There aren't even any floors or walls going in. It's just a big three-story hole that looks like it's being torn down instead of being built.
