FromdaBurgh
WELL...WELL..WELL... do have I have some updates for you all...Zeke's high school basketball coach called me yesterday and said (and I'm quoting here..) "I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HECK ZEKE DID THIS WEEKEND IN AKRON...BUT MY PHONE HAS BEEN RINGING OFF THE HOOK". He told me that schools like Arizona, Ohio State, Xavier, Central Michigan and Pitt called him. It is very, very interesting that the same people who talked all that trash about Zeke...he's to skinny, he can't play any offensive...he needs to get bigger...BLAH..BLAH..BLAH!!!! now are chasing after him...BUT FEAR NOT ZIP NATION....you guys are HIS ABSOLUTE FAVORITE. Oh and if I didnt tell you, he took an "unofficial" visit on Sunday before we came home. It was a very, very productive visit. Psstt...guess what Zip Nation...I know who the Zips will be playing at Quicken Arena... Hey..check this out...Zeke was named as one of the Top 5 Performers at the Jamfest this weekend:http://bwi.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=802461A-N-D I just found out that Zeke has been invited to the Bob Gibbons NBA Top Performers camp in North Carolina in June. That is absolutely amazing...UNFORTUNATELY..he won't be able to accept the invitation because we have a VERY IMPORTANT family event taking place that week...but HEY...what an invitation. Well...AK-Rowdies and Zip Nation I'll keep you all updated on the "Adventures of da Game-Changer".HOLLA BACKZeke's Mom
zff
I am going to go out on a limb and say if Zeke becomes a Zip he will be a Program changer. He is exactly what this program is missing. The Zips have never had an athletic game changing center. He is a very high profile player that could get other high profile players to join him in Akron. If the Zips ever want to jump to a high mid major program Zeke is a must get.Why would OSU and Xavier want another 7 footer? They both have one coming in for the fall. Quickzips
Why would OSU and Xavier want another 7 footer? They both have one coming in for the fall.No offense or anything, but this is about like saying "why would the Cavs want another Lebron James, they already have one." Well yeah, but if one makes the Cavs as good as they are now just think what two would do.When it comes to big men it seems as if you can never really have enough. Especially if they are talented. Heck I'm sure KD would LOVE to have the problem of finding playing time for two talented 7 footers. Ohh and btw. Congrats to Zeke on all the accolades. From the sounds of it they are well deserved. johnnyzip84
WELL...WELL..WELL... do have I have some updates for you all...Psstt...guess what Zip Nation...I know who the Zips will be playing at Quicken Arena... This adds a little more credence to my initial suspicion. I have to believe that the Zips will be playing host to Jamie Dixon's Pitt Panthers at the Q next season. A lot of us remember the Jerome Lane-lead Panthers eeking out a close win over Huggins crew in the 80's. If true, I think this is a great matchup/opportunity. But, having grown up in Western Pa, I might be a little biased.

It would be even nicer if that was a true home game in a new arena and a conference game to boot! I think they could be a great rivalry for us. GoZips
Greetings from sunny, sunny southern California. Ahaheim is great place to be this time of year. Or any time of yearwhen you are on an all expenses paid job trip for a week. This Residence Inn is first class. Bless the folks at AT&T fortreating me so well. Eat your heart out Hawai'ian Z.I.P.Couple of things to say. First and foremost, to Zeke's Mom, we all love Zeke. He has such a great potential especiallyif you keep feeding him that lasanga. The Zips thrive on lasanga.Second, Mom, do not let the kat out of the bag. Its fun watching all the speculation about the game planned for the Q.I do believe that you know who the opponent is. Sssshhhh .....!!!! Tantalizing isn't it?Third, a while back I encountered a talented young basketball player on the Akron campus. My foggy old brain failedto realize that he had just finished four great years as a stud player at Walsh University. So, Brandon Weems is NOTa potential future Zip. I am dumber than I look. FromdaBurgh
Second, Mom, do not let the kat out of the bag. Its fun watching all the speculation about the game planned for the Q.I do believe that you know who the opponent is. Sssshhhh .....!!!! Tantalizing isn't it?Don't worry GoZips....MY LIPS ARE SEALED!! HE! HE! HE! It is tantalizing and a lot of fun. I can't wait for the coaching staff to reveal the opponent. Well..here are some updates: Sean Miller called me yesterday and declared that he was offering Zeke a scholarship and he showed up to see Zeke practice yesterday but I heard he left earlier..because guess who was on the premises...COACH BOALS!! Oh and check this out---Dixon showed up at 6:39 (when practice started at 5pm) and was told by Zeke's high school coach..that practice was over.. F-U-N-N-Y..Hey speaking of Dixon..EVERYBODY check out this article in our local paper... You are going to find some VERY INTERESTING comments about Pitt and their coaching staff.Zeke is getting ready for the Western PA Regionals---which will determine if they make it to Nationals in FL!! I heard that Zeke may be up on campus during LeBron's camp (don't know the details--but will let you know as soon as I find out). Well, Zip Nation---I'll holla back at you all real soon. Don't stop talking...I LOVE to read your commentaries...

Blue & Gold
Hey Gamechanger! Wow! Thanks for that above link! That's one thing about KD and our coaching staff that I love and am really proud of - we, naturally, have also had recruits that haven't developed and produced like we all were hoping. But KD and the staff still love them and never say ANYTHING but positives about them and the staff always seem to go out of their way to make sure that all the players - from the starting five to the walk-ons - know that they are an important part of the team and that they are wanted just as much as anyone else. I think that is a large part of why the team chemistry at Akron is so special. You'll see a group of players walking around the mall together - and there will be 3 starters, 2 bench players and 3 walk-ons in the group, all hanging out, laughing, no egos, all best of friends. It's totally cool. You can tell they're just one big family.I didn't know that LeBron held a camp at UA. I knew about the King James AAU Classic, but LBJ also has a skills camp on campus?Go Zips! Go Zeke!

ZZZips
LeBron has two camps at UA each summer. The first is the kid's overnight camp in June. For info go tohttp://www.lebronjameskingsacademy.com/The top level high school camp sponsored by Nike is right after the July 4th holiday.Info is at:http://hoopsfuture.com/events/us-skills-academy-9.html

Quickzips
Ok maybe I'm WAY off on my thinking here but...Don't these programs have to offer a kid before they can commit? Isn't there something in the NCAA bylaws about when you are allowed to start extending scholarship offers to people? I mean, I can say that I'm gonna go play center for Kansas next year but it doesn't mean a thing if they don't offer me, right? Can someone explain this whole recruiting process to me and how it is that these kids are doing this???

zippyrifle32
through what i know of my own sport (and i admit the rules for the "major" sports are a big different), the whole can't-talk-to-an-athlete is a high school thing. some shooters become very good very young (like make the national team in middle school) and can chat away until they hit high school. then they can't be approached until after their junior year. GoZips
I notice that the whole "what is Zeke going to do" has become very, very quiet. Now that Florida and Kentucky, among others, is in the mix a lot of re-think appearantly is going on.Still, as I walked on campus today I thought I heard a very, very faint beginning of the "I Believe" chant.Zeke's Mom , keep feeding that darn lasanga. What "talk" is there to put on the table? The board heated up when Zeke had the two local AAU tourneys. Now there's a lull because there's not much going on. We can't receive any binding commitments until November, so unless we want to discuss inane stuff like a talk show radio host on a slow day, we wait. If anything new, and of substance, surfaces on this topic I'm sure you'll see it here pronto.
Zip Watcher
It's also an NCAA quiet period until early July. So there's no direct contact w/ Zeke by ANY schools until that time .. Boals being in the gym on 30 April probably was not a coincidence. So we wait and hope. Go Zips .. Go Zeke.

Couldn't be Zeke committing already could it?...I didn't think signing day was until the fall, so if he is already committed, an official announcement couldn't be made (right?). I'm guessing it's the release of this coming season's schedule.
