umassfan2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Report Share Posted March 21, 2008 Hey Zips,Just wanted to wish you good luck tomorrow. It should be a very good game between two good teams. A little summary of our team:We will run run run. That is our style. We have been in the top 10 in the nation in scoring all season long. We faced Stephen F. Austin in the first round who came into the game #2 in scoring defense and put up 80 against them. We are lead by Gary Forbes, a 6'8'' G/F who averages 20 points and 8 rebounds a game. He is a transfer from Virginia and POY in the A-10. We are a perimeter oriented team who loves to shoot the 3. We don't have much in terms of interior offense. Our best big man is Dante Milligan, 6'9'' who is productive but not dominant when he stays on the court. He actually leads the nation in games fouled out. He had a career game in the first round vs. SFA (24 points, 9 rebounds, 7 blocks.) That is not a typical game for him. We are 3rd in the nation in blocks per game. Our point guard is extremely fast and defenses often have a hard time staying in front of him. With those strengths, there are also weaknesses. We struggle with free throw shooting and often get outrebounded by a large margin. Since we love to run up and down the court, we also give up a lot of points. Defense has been a huge problem with this team although it has improved since the beginning of the year. Our message board is located at www.umasshoops.com/board. Good luck! Thanks for your input on the game, could you at least try to make sure at least a couple of the guys you mentioned have off games? I just cheer every time we make a basket and yell at the refs! This is one of the few times someone from the opposing team shows up and doesn't start flaming about how we're going to get pounded. Kudos to a classy post. What I can say is that we seem to be a team that lives and dies by the 3. We play pretty good D and I wouldn't say we are a running team. If our guys come out hot, we've got a chance to win or even pull away quickly. If we come out cold, like we did a week ago, it could get ugly. Looking forward to a good game! The University of California Berkeley at Can't ...Sounds like working our shot clock a bit to help limit the number of UMass possessions may help a bit. No doubt our shooting has to be on. If we can get our inside out game working, we should at least get some decent looks at the basket inside and outside ... can we MAKE them is the question. Like someone said before, we really seem to live by the three, die by the three. If we're hitting from the outside we're a very tough team, but if we're cold from behind the arc our offense really stalls. Also, we're running the show this year without a true point guard. Nick Dials, the blonde-headed guy you'll see running our point is last year's shooting guard. He's a much more natural shooter than disher. He also lacks the quickness one would like to have from a PG. He's taking one for the team this year.Enjoy the game!P.s.
