ziptrumpet87 Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Two different stories on Dambrot speaking at the HOF luncheon on last season's results and his outlook on the future.Canton Repository articleandAlliance Review article Quote
GoZips88 Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 I know some on the board question Dambrot's recruiting, scheduling, game decisions, whatever ... I love the guy and I'm glad he's here. The Crawford and Hipsher years just plain SUCKED and I like the direction we're headed. Nobody's perfect but it just seems to me that an Akron guy who WANTS to be at Akron has Akron doing good things the right way. Great job so far Keith. Go Zips! Quote
Blue & Gold Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Thanks ZipsTrumpet! This quote is from the Canton Repository story:Another plus for the Akron program is his relationship with Cavaliers All-Star LeBron James. Dambrot coached James for two seasons at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, and they won two state titles together. James holds his basketball camp, AAU tournament and open gyms on the Akron campus. Dambrot also promised "big news" in terms of an Akron "affiliation with LeBron." "He's a very, very loyal guy," Dambrot said. "That's why I love LeBron." I wonder what the "'big news' in terms of an Akron 'affiliation with LeBron'" could be?! Quote

Go Zips!I don't think there's a man alive more well-fit for this coaching position than KD. Honestly. The planets alligned for him to land here, bring along Dru & Rome & J-Wood, and be personal friends w/ LeBron. He's a bright coach and a diligent recruiter who is passionate about his hometown and U. Good grief, we are so fortunate to have him at the helm of this program. Quote

The question is, will Nike partner with all of the University Athletics or just the Basketball team. Quote

flipthezip Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 The word has been floating around since football season that UA is switching from Adidas to Nike for all programs. Hopefully the announcement will be soon. Quote

Hopefully the announcement will be soon.I heard that only basketball was switching to the Nike LeBron brand. I think OSU is doing the same. Quote

With the new dorms being put in downtown, it wouldn't completely surprise me. Quote

Dr Z Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Anyway they can get an Akron cap on LeBron, I am all for. Biggest missed marketing opportunity in the history of Akron sports. If I were running Akron marketing, I would higher one person to work 40 hours a week to make this happen. Quote

Zip_ME87 Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 Perhaps the announcement is that LeBron and Nike are purchasing the Can't State University and turning it back into an open field, like what happened to the Richfield Coliseum.Personally, I love LeBron because he so p*sses off K.SUcks fans. Blue & Gold Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Ha! That's what you call a manufactured story! Look at how the "reporter" manufactured the entire story around a couple of pulled quotes! That's text-book on how one is NOT supposed to journal (unless you're writing a blog). But LeBron is market-savvy if he's anything, so it sure would not hurt his marketability in this state to make statements to that effect. I think Wise-LeBron is intelligent enough to realize that - oh, yeah, I also remember LeBron saying he'd like to attend OSU when he was being interviewed in... oh, yeah... COLUMBUS! Ha! Go get 'em Bron-Bron! Quote
