InTheZone
Odd decision. considering he was a JD recruit and not an Owens recruit.Even though Long wasn't an Owens recruit, he was probably still influenced by the amount of Owens recruits that he played with early on in his career moving on to Ashland. Also, if you really look at it, if your a D1 Ohio guy looking to remain instate and transfer down to a scholarship program, what are your options really? There's YSU, which is a good program but has a horrible campus and location, there's Findlay, who's God-awful, there's Tiffin, who has horrible facilities and doesn't compete at a high level in D2, and then there's Ashland, who sits at the top of a D2 power conference, is a private school with a beautiful campus, and is opening brand new football facilities in 2009. I think we'll probably continue to see guys who want out of Akron going down there, even though Lee Owens old recruiting pool has now run dry. Captain Kangaroo
I wonder if Ashland alumni get all bent out of shape when people call them "Ashland U?"
zipdiehard
166 players? Also, is that really Lee Owens in that photo? Looks a little "big".

My son graduated from Ashland U. , and still refers to it as either Ashland or Ashland U.

My son graduated from Ashland U. , and still refers to it as either Ashland or Ashland U.How about "The University of Ashland" or "U Ashland?" Seems like most of us "sensitive types" are OK with "Akron" and "UA" but start butchering it with "Akron University" or worse yet, "Akron U," and it's like . GoZips88
I really hope you guys know that Ashland is officially "Ashland University"...Sure do ... and Akron is officially "The University of Akron." My point is that if it doesn't really matter what we call Akron, then it must not really matter what we call Ashland (or insert your favorite school) ... "The University of Ashland" and "U Ashland" both sound good to me just as "Akron University" and "Akron U" are acceptable to some.An old can of worms for sure ... I just feel it is more respectful to use the proper name.
