Quickzips
I've been checking out some of the Pitt message boards over at Scouts and Rivals and I've got to say it's kind of humorous. These guys had been doggin Zeke left and right up until some of the recent AAU tournaments where he was pretty impressive. Then all of a sudden the tune changes. Only problem is the Panther contingent gets a swelled head and assumes that just because they extended an offer to Zeke that it's only a matter of time before he accepts. Now there is a LOT of head scratching and flip flopping going on. I find it all rather humorous. As I said in the other thread. Welcome to the family Zeke.GO ZIPS! w00t
The guys that have graduated in the past two years (Travis, Joyce, Middleton, Wood, Dials, and Milum) were a heck of a group of players and from all I've gathered had great character as well. Thanks to them and KD and his staff for moving Zips basketball forward, I think they laid the foundation to be able to attract players of the caliber who are signing with us now, especially the Pennsylvania guys like McNess, Sweich, and Marshall, who in the past might have landed at Pitt, PSU, or Duquesne.Congratulations Zeke, I think you're going to be a part of something special here. I hope UA provides you with a great college experience, on the court and off.
zip37
WOW! This verbal is great: I asked KD if any player that made a verbal commitment, failed to signa LOI, his reply was: NO. (It's that character thing KD keeps talking about). With ball ammunition, lock and load, and of course

zipsbandman
I think Zeke will enjoy his experience here. There is going to be a buzz around Akron his first year. Campus will really come alive when infocision opens its gates. The soccer team will probably be competing for national titles, and the basketball team will be Stacked. Congrats to Dambrot and his staff as well as marshall. In the words of Proenza, Wow.

johnnyzip84
What a wonderful story!! When I was an undergrad at UA from 1979-1984, I used to return to my home in the Pittsburgh area only to find that many locals had never even HEARD of UA let alone acknowledge it for either sports or academics. This situation has gradually changed over the years with many Western Pa recruits filling the hoop and gridiron ranks in particular at UA in recent years. I see the verbal commitment from Zeke as a crowning jewel in this transformation. I will walk a little taller on my subsequent trips "home" I can assure you of that!Great to have you Zeke! The Akron area will treat you well I can assure you. Go Zips!!!!
Blue & Gold
Sweeeeeeeeeet!!!! Welcome to the family, Zeke!!! You're gonna be the big man on campus! At 7'0", I suppose that's a given. We're all looking forward to meeting you, cheering for you, supporting you no matter what, watching you continue your development, and going dancing in the NCAA!The coaches around the MAC had to change their shorts when they heard this news! They tremble at the sound of Zeke's name! And, of course, they FEAR THE ROO!
gozips19
from the nbe site and a quote from his aau coachMarshall’s height, 7’4” wingspan, and athleticism are all huge plusses for his future on the court. The fact that “he can run all day”, according to Klimchock, is another rarity for such a tall player. As far as defense, Klimchock, who is no stranger to talent having coached two-sport phenom Terrelle Pryor in high school, is not shy in his enthusiasm. “I think if you ask people around the country they will probably tell you that he is the best shot blocker in the class. He is phenomenal at it.”i agree......is it 09 yet?????

I'm guessing not, otherwise you would have thought it was a bird story.

FromdaBurgh
Good Morning Zip Family:As I'm getting ready for church I wanted you all to check out the link below. This is to a "pitt" blog and I want Zeke's new fam to read the nasty comments being left about Zeke's decision. As his mom...this stuff really hurts, but as an adult I do understand that everyone is entitled to their "own opinion" no matter how dumb it is or how "idiotic" and "immature" they sound. Just an FYI...have a great day everyone. http://www.pittblather.com/

Just an FYI...have a great day everyone. http://www.pittblather.com/I've been lurking on the Pitt message boards for the last few days. It really does hurt, but these guys are trying to rationalize how "such a wonderful world-class athletic program with the best academics/campus in the eastern US" could possible lose a recruit to Akron. To them, Akron is a small community college in Cleveland that plays D-II ball. They'll come up with all sorts of excuses, many of them based on ill-informed conjecture. The funny thing is, reading some of those comments shows that the fans still think that Pitt has a great chance to land Zeke if they really wanted him, while at the same time completely bashing him on every perceived shortcoming they can. That's more of the rationalization process. The best advice is not to worry about it. Focus on Zeke's senior year; it should be a special time for you and your son. Verballing should help everyone relax a bit, since you guys should stop being constantly harassed by some of the recruiters.

Just an FYI...have a great day everyone. http://www.pittblather.com/ Let me just say that this is really no surprise to me. I have mentioned before in other posts how poorly UA is known, much less revered, in the Western PA region. This is slowly changing however. I can tell you from personal experience that UA was a perfect fit for me when I left Western PA for college life. I could have gone to Pitt to study engineering, but I chose Akron for a number of reasons and I have no regrets. 2 hours is a perfect distance IMHO, because it's close enough for family visits (either way) but far enough that a student learns a lot of responsibility on their own. That's what the college experience is all about after all!
Let'sGoZips94
My dad and I saw Zeke play, and after the game, we started chanting "Z-Z-Z-ZEKE-FENCE!" Wow! What a great get! Zips fan
I am very excited that Zeke will be joining the Zips! KD is a great coach and really has the program poised for greatness. It will be interesting to see if Zeke's addition will lead to any other national caliber players joining him in the 09 recruiting class. The basketball team has just one scholarship available for 2009. I agree with you that the coaches need to target a high qualityplayer for that one ticket. Of interest to me is what player position will they be looking at. I am hoping for a small forward. Say six-seven to six-nine, left handed, who loves to go to the basket shoot and rebound. Oh, sounds like a Nate Linhart clone. I would highly pleased with a recruit in the mold of Nate.
