Captain Kangaroo Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 from what i've heard akron didn't make the decision to drop kentucky. chryst did. both kentucky and wisconsin were ok with akron backing out but cryst made the choice for them with conference scheduling. chryst is an idiot and akron needs to get out of the mac asap. i agree that the big east would make a lot of sense for scheduling unless it's a school like iu. From what I heard that's incorrect. We dropped Kentucky because it was our path of least resistance. Kentucky wasn't tickled to drop the game, but had a fallback game available. AND, more importantly, Wisconsin, unlike Ohio State, make a significant increase in their original contracted payout as an enticement for the Zips to honor their original commitment and come to Madison.I can't reveal my source, but I can say his name rhymes with "Snack Toads." GoZips Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 Snack Toads, best thing you have said in a while. I like it. Is that "Snacky" for short? Or, "Toady"? Quote
gozips19 Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 perhaps i misunderstood what "Snack Toads" said to me then........i completely agree though that financially the uw makes more sense. Quote
RACER Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 we should have tried to buy out of the wiksy game.i know it's easier said than done since none of us have to fork over the $$$. i also realize that mac football is a losing deal. i just dont see how three road games, and a home game against cinnci is good. i still think akron will have to go 5-3 in the mac for jd to have a 6-6 season. cuse is not osu or wisky, but our record against anyone on the road is terrible.hopefully all this will change once the new stadium is built, and au can get more fans to the gates. Alvarez must have got a chuckle out of this one. Pay-em a little more and then we'll cheat them when they get here. We should have stayed with Kentucky as that was a 1 away and 1 home contract. That's how you build a program. The heck with a few more bucks for one game. This sort of deal making should be over.Going forward we should only book games that include one return game in the contract (one exception - OSU... we could get them in the Brown's Stadium). I'd like to see more games with Conference USA AND Big East teams. Let's see how we stack up with those conferences. Also, Can't should be played during rivalry week, as long as we are in the MAC and try to schedule one late season return away game every other year against a warm weather non-conference opponent (for ex. - UTEP, Houston, Central Florida, Tulane, Rice, Ect...).I'm looking forward to the Syracuse game this year, and here's hoping the Orangemen make it to Akron sometime soon. TexanMark Posted May 29, 2008 Author Report Posted May 29, 2008 FWIW, Syracuse will play in your new stadium on Sept 18th, 2010. I plan to be there. We have Akron playing in Syracuse in 2008 and 2009. Obviously, the 2009 game isn't happening on Sept 5, 2009 as originally planned with the recent announcement that Minnesota is playing @Syr on the same day.If anyone needs any info on Syracuse for this September's game just ask. (Tailgating, hotels, restaurants, etc....) Quote
