  1. BTW, just found an article...Goodman was named the game's MVP. HS all star games in NY are played in June. Syracuse Coach Dough Marrone had the idea for this game. Upstate NY is way behind Downstate NY in size and talent. The best player of the bunch might be DT Wayne Williams who didn't get the grades and is heading to JUCO (Nassau CC). Penn State and Cuse are his leaders...he might be a 4 to play 3 guy.
  2. Hey guys...some good news for you. The Upstate/Downstate NY All Star game was played at the Carrier Dome today. Your recruit Tyrell Goodman was very impressive. He stood out as one of the top 2-3 players of the game. If he doesn't play QB for you...he'll be too good to keep on the sidelines. You can read the Syracuse Scout board for more snippets. I expect a decent writeup tomorrow of the game. Check Orangeyes posting of Monday Articles tomorrow morning.
  3. Thanks for the heads up...i believe we already have two Nassau CC players already too. Also, check this link out...it has good picture of your new recruit from NYC (Goodman) Scroll Down about half way I hope we get another series going with you guys again about 5 years down the road...it does look tougher as we did lose another OOC game since TCU is joining the Big East in 2012. We seem to recruit the same areas and go after many of the same kids.
  4. Daferral Davis WR from Nassau CC on Long Island. This is Cuse's pipeline JUCO and the kid was committed but didn't take care of his Fall academics. Akron and Can't involved Good Luck hope you guys get him. BTW, loved your stadium and tailgating scene from last September
  5. Joe Siegferth did a great job handling the ticket requests and got us a group rate for the the seats and the Tailgate Lot. Well done Joe...BTW, he even called me after the game and asked how we were treated. Awesome customer service...thanks Joe. Got into Macedonia, OH late on Friday night. The construction on SR 8 was never really a factor the whole weekend. We stayed at the LaQuinta and it was a good stay. We were in Lot 34. It ( the lot and parking flow) was well run, the lot is very nice with a good strip of grass along Carroll St...Akron fans were laid back save for the Akron Rowdies who got the biggest kick out of blasting from the post Akron '08 broadcast. Well done...I got a chuckle out of that. I invited them several times to come over and have a coney but apparently they were shy but they missed out on coney served at Heid's as seen on this episode of "Man vs. Food" I mentioned to them we no longer employ GRob and he is Michigan's problem now. Niko Tamurian (local Syracuse Sports TV guy) came by and interviewed several of us...as he was doing a story on Internet fan boards. Kenner from the Akron sports board was a good sport and got interviewed...nice guy with a great TV setup....sported a Sat TV set up and I got to watch a bit of Yukon puking on themselves. This next paragraph is directed at the delusional Akron fans who think they should be like Can't State with $5 tickets Personally I felt like I was back in 1990: $20-25 to sit on the 40 yard line, $5-10 to park, motels well under $75...concession prices were also priced like a minor league baseball park. Infocision is a beautiful small/medium sized stadium with great sightlines. Wide corridors and a good selection of concession items. You guys need to get real...Akron Football is great deal for 1A. Your stadium is on campus and you have a nice tailgate set up among an attractive campus. I'd rather watch a game in this setting than sitting out in some cow pasture 2 miles from campus. You are an urban university and it is a nice set up for a stadium downtown--embrace it. You need to help the rebuilding process by supporting the team and creating a home field advantage.. Bottomline: If you want to be Can't State drive 10 miles NE and sit at their crappy high school like stadium with high school ticket prices. You realize in the big boy divison ticket prices over $35 and closer to $50 is the norm? Cuse fans going next week to Washington are paying $66 to sit in the endzone. Sadly, Akron needs to support your team...a really pathetic crowd by Akron...maybe 13k Zip fans for a season opener against a well known program. Your crowd despite being small was also quiet and sat on your a$$...a bad combo. You never made much of an effort to cheer not even early. Hello? Maybe get off your a$$ on 3rd down defensive stands? It was also a fairly lame student body...arrive late, sit with disinterest on the endzone lawn and leave early...good job students. BTW, I do like the idea of an end zone lawn...well done and it should be awesome once the crowds come. Hopefully Coach I can get you back to their winning ways soon and get the students interested in the Zips. BTW not to slam just Akron Students our students (Cuse) are just as bad (leaving early) but they do cheer when the game is close but they bail out quickly if we fall behind in the 2nd half. I do hope Coach I will learn kicking field goals might be safe...to lose close but to beat a better program you have to take chances....stupid, stupid call in the second half...also, I wonder if Nicely was told not to force anything? It seemed like he threw the ball (uncatchable) anytime he was pressured? Listening to the the post game interviews from both coaches was telling. Hopefully Coach I learns and moves on... Bottomline: Akron had gracious fans and Joe Siegferth in the Ticket Office really came through for our tailgate group. I would love another series with Akron if we can get a 2 for 1 or a 3 for 2. Akron ought to like it also --->if we brought 2500-3000 fans (Joe S. still thought closer to 5k but I think it was less) off a 4-8 season what would we travel off an 8-4 season to Akron in the future? Things are looking up for Cuse. Hopefully Akron is not too far behind. Good luck the rest of the season...hope you can make a bowl game.
  6. Agreed. I had my three teenage boys waiting for me in the car, when I found out not only were tickets going to be $20 a piece, but I was also going to be charged for parking. That's $70 before we got in the door (I'm a student). Who do they think they are, the New England Patriots? $10 is not too much to charge to attend a college football game. If you want to park for free, drive up and down the side streets looking for a spot in front of a house. $20 is a reasonable price to pay to attend a college football game and watch a BCS team play. When is the last time you paid to attend an NFL game? GA seats at the Big Dialer are similar to a club level seat at an NFL stadium. Those run in excess of $100ea plus parking. You saved around $400 by going to the Zips game. Like I've said here many times now..... We are a I-AA school for many reasons. Fan attitudes about what prices should be paid to watch a D-1A game are strange at best. When I see a fan say $70 is too much to watch a D-1A football game with four other humans, I know we can never make it in D-1A. While you enjoy paying your D-1A prices with only 3000-5000 people to watch a Zips game, our friends in Can't will be paying $5 with over 16,000 others to watch the Golden Flushes. They'll be laughing at us all year. Being a D1-A program should have nothing to do with ticket prices. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Prices need to reflect demand. The demand isn't high enough to charge the prices UA is charging and they'll make less money overall unless they drop the prices to bring in more people. 15,000 people paying $10 a ticket and $5 to park will bring in more money than 5,000 people paying $20 a ticket and $10 to park. It doesn't matter if it's D1-A or D1-AA, prices need to reflect demand!! At last, someone talking economic sense. What is your best estimate of the demand function? I'm thinking it may not really be very elastic. Any thoughts on using a reverse Dutch auction to price tickets? A little bit of D-1 reality...$20 to sit on the 40 yard line is insanely cheap...a few Cuse buddies are traveling to Washington next week and will get to pay $66 a tix to sit in the end zone. BTW, your stadium is really nice. The best MAC stadium I've been in.
  7. More than 500 Cuse fans...not sure where Joe S. was coming from when he said 3-5k to me a few weeks ago. We were very solid in Sections 105-109...u figure 600-700 a section I guess...so I think we were north of 1500 easily. Overall a great time at Akron...I'll post more later.
  8. Uh, I'm pretty sure the Syracuse staff knows what kind of defense the Zips will play. I bet they even played against it before. I just read it here...I called up Doug and told him...I heard Sh!t and mad scrambling in the background...Thanks for the heads up.ZachThe Zip
  9. Orangeyes does daily links of articles at the Syracuse Scout website. Today is loaded with lots of articles for those doing their pregame homework. BTW, I saw a guy on CBS College Sports predict Akron will be the big upset of the weekend. Of course I hope he is wrong.
  10. Sure...BTW, my goal is to have all our food/beer/soda consumed before the game...seriously come on by. I don't want to drive anything back to NY. BTW, you can't miss me...I look like a slightly younger light brown haired version of the actor Tim Robbins...same height and build. So do you look more like Tim Robbins, or the guy who looks like Tim Robbins? I look more like Tim Robbins than that guy on the right. My hairstyle is different though.
  11. I'll just sit back and let Zipmeister conjure up something good for this. Cruz ALWAYS had the talent. I'm sure he'd love to play well against the Zips. I'm sure Cruz would love to play well, but I bet he has always wanted to play well. But I bet he does what he always does and that is drop passes. Bennet is not a Cuse grad...BTW, Cruz won't be catching passes (he still drops them at Cuse)...he'll be used for the power run game or blocking for a WR. Provo is our TE that catches passes.

  13. You guys are welcome to come by Lot 34 and say hi...look for about 100 Orange shirts. BTW, if you come around 3:30-4:00pm you can get a famous Hoffman Coney Just ask for me. Hopefully you can share a local Ohio brewski with us. I'll be serving these up click on the video...Hoffmans are served at Heid's Restaurant. The Syracuse Man vs Food episode will be on this Wednesday at 9pm
  14. Frankly, I expect Cuse to "Paste Colgate"! Colgate was an eastern power back in the 1900-1950 time frame. The last time they beat Syracuse was like 1951 or something. Our AD canceled out on a 2 game series with Virginia Tech about a year ago. VT got Boise State instead...our AD office couldn't find another 1A team to play at home so the past Spring they settled with Colgate. The idea by te AD was to lighten the OOC schedule as Syracuse usually plays the toughest one in the Big East. It is hoped to help our rebuilding. Colgate gets to hop on a bus for 45 mins, collect 400k or so and hopefully lose. BTW, Colgate is one of the better 1AAs out there.
  15. Cuse defense much much better Cuse 20 Zips 10
  16. Syracuse isn't the New York flagship university, Buffalo is. Yeah right......UB isn't even the Flagship of Erie County. We sucked real bad in 07 and the Cuse fan base is a bandwagon bunch and we soured on Greg Robinson. We have a solid 25k fan base of hard core...this year we should see 40k as the prospects are looking up. When we are top 25 we get 45-49k. We are the flagship of Upstate NY, our townies (locals within 90 miles) support the team, most of the alumni live within 6-7 hours of Syracuse mostly in urban areas. Our real weakness is the downstate fans will not leave the NYC Metro area to drive up and support the team. Syracuse is a private school so it isn't a flagship like OSU, UM and PSU are...SU fans do travel well to drivable locales. It helps that this is a 3 day weekend and a night game. I'm sure a lot of the SU fans coming are alumni or former Upstate NYers living in NE Ohio and Western PA
  17. Joe S. at the ticket office two weeks ago said Cuse had bought 3-5k tix I hope you guys a good parking flow for people buying parking passes on game day.
  18. Are you using a generator or a battery for your power? I'll be in 34 too...one of my guys is setting up Directv at the lot.
  19. I know alot of Cuse fans are staying north of Akron in Macedonia next to I-271. I've driven through the area and looks pretty nice. Any good late night restaurants around Macedonia that will still serve around 11pm? BTW, so where is "The Valley"? anyone have a street intersection? I googled it and it looked to be pretty far out in the suburbs. Macedonia? There's no way to get to campus from there without driving through major construction. Route 8 is still the fastest way, but you have to go through the Boston Heights speed trap. Macedonia is mostly chain restaurants and strip malls. It's about the most generic suburb that you'll ever see, unless you head off into the national park. As far as the Valley goes, it's still in Akron, but barely. We're used to having to drive to get places. Nothing's really centrally located in Akron, everything is spread out all over so we don't really think about it. It's where most of the complaints come from when people out of town complain that there's nothing to do, because they don't know where to go and wrongly assume that all the good stuff is concentrated downtown like in other cities. Appreciate all your inputs...but my small caravan group is driving over Friday night...getting in late around 11pm...most are getting up early to hit the HOF in Canton then to the tailgate. A couple of us not going are getting last minute tailgate supplies for 100. Then we are tailgating early afternoon, watching the game, be back to the hotel around 11pm (unless we stay and continue at a place like Brubakers--obviously depends on the outcome of the game)...get up Sunday and drive home. Macedonia will work for us...others in my tailgate might find some of your other places to stay very useful...thanks. Keep it coming...BTW, Brubaker's looks awesome. Not sure I have time but would like to have a beer there. I see the downtown location is a short walk to Lot 34...hmmmm maybe a post game meetup there.
  20. Directions to the Merriman Valley, from Market Street on the northern edge of campus So this is the place?
  21. I agree with staying a night in a road location if able...I looked into a charter bus for Akron but the driver only has a 16 duty day. So then you are looking at hotels, buying a room for the driver, etc...the costs go way up. Looking at your schedule the two best games for a cheaper charter would be Ohio or Ball State. Ball State would be a long day but you could do it. I think the game in Athens would be the one I picked as the weather should be good in mid October. Also, you don't have to get a huge bus...they have 20 to 30 seat ones too. Start small...get a party bus for 25 or so. Get a list going...have a drop dead date to commit...get the money upfront through Paypal or by check....just my 2 cents.
  22. A 12 year year old using his Mom's computer can write for Bleacher Report. There are good writers there but also alot of uniformed or agenda ladened idiots writing articles there too.

  24. Cuse is getting their first Chipotle soon...about a mile from the campus. BTW, to the poster above...I'm not in my 20s but wanted to get info for the younger fans coming to Akron.
