skip-zip
After a hiatus from this site following the end of basketball season, I have started to think about football. And I did go to the spring game, and want to comment about something that I sure hope has not already been talked about extensively in the last month or so....I welcome anyone's insight or comments.I noticed that Bryan Williams had been moved to DB. As an INDIVIDUAL move, I thought it was very good considering that we lost quite a bit in our secondary last year, and appear to be quite well off at RB.What puzzled me was that we then moved a good DB to WR. I don't know guys. I guess I have to trust the coaching staff that they identified some skills in both of these guys that made them more of a benefit to the team to be somewhere else. But still.....basically swapping a defensive and offensive player, both of whom were well established at their positions, and entering their senior year, seems pretty odd. And it is happening at what appears to be a very critical time in JDs tenture as our coach.Any thoughts?

Blue & Gold
I like the move of Bryan Williams to DB. He was a good running back but I think he's got NFL potential @ DB. However, I'm not as thrilled about the move of (was it Andre Jones?) from DB to WR. I don't think the odds are in his favor to be a difference maker at WR given only 1 off-season to learn the position. Hopefully I'm laughably wrong! I am very excited to see what Deryn Bowser and Jeremy Bruce add to this years' team. I'm also hoping the coaches can figure out a way to get Gary Pride on the field and involved w/ the offense. Captain Kangaroo
The move of Wiliams to DB is a great one. He's going to be a mid-round NFL draft pick after the 2008 season is over. And between Kennedy, Johnson, Allen and Pride we're going to find someone to fill his shoes at RB.Jones is arguably the best athlete on the team. It makes sense to get the ball in his hands as much as possible. If you liked him running back kicks, imagine what he can do if the ball is thrown his way 9 or 10 times per game. He'll be a deep threat like David Harvey, and unlike David Harvey, a threat to take a 10 yarder and bust it for 80. I think his affect on the Zips offense will be eerily similar to Hixson's after his move. Bowser, Jones and Bruce are a tremendous upgrade over Arthur, Arthur and Arthur from 2007. And who knows...maybe Alphonso Owen decides to join the pass-catching fray in 2008?Look for Jalil Carter to assume Jones' role in the secondary. I hear a lot of really good things about him.If our QB can go through his progressions in 2008, one of our top 3 WR's is going to be open. RACER
i think moving jones to wr is not a good one.he is our best open field tackler.he has not even caught one pass for the zips yet.i know we need help on the offense, but taking your best db to offense is not the answer. RACER
i thought a.owen did a decent job last year.i just dont think the offense jd runs fits the qb we have now.i think that's the biggest issue.i am so sick of the pass in the flat to the wr. jd is going to be accountbale for all his decisions.i just wish the occ schedule was a little softer.i just don't think the occ schedule is fare to any coach regardless of who it is. Ryno aka Menace
Why isn't the OOC schedule fair? If JD can beat NC State he can beat Syracuse, if JD can be competitive with Penn State and Ohio State he can be competitive with Wisconsin. And I don't think Cinci will be as good as UConn since they will be breaking in a new QB. I think this year we will see improved QB play the question is how improved will it be. If it is marginal we will be under 500.
skip-zip
It just puzzles me that a good offensive player was swapped for a good defensive player. Move a RB to DB, and then move a good DB to WR. Sort of seems like a wash to me. I hope they made the right move. Moving Williams to DB was a good INDIVIDUAL move. We're stacked at RB, and need DB help. But then pulling Jones out of the secondary to play WR was the strange part to me.
RACER
skip zip that was exactly what i thought also.we have people in kennedy, and allen who are decent backs.we also have the transfer from maimi in the mix.we have no one at safety that can play like jones can.he is best open field tackler the zips have.i guess we will have to wait and see this season.
