fknbuflobo Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 You left out Eric Stevenson. AHHHhhhh! You are right, I did. Eric, please forgive me! Stevenson.............................Koroma .....................Brenes.................... Najem...............................Quinn ..................Foldesy.................. Derschang....................Abdul-Salaam ..........Gallego............Souders.......... .....................Pina........................... This lineup is a pretty good one, with only one newcomer starting. Well, two newcomers starting, if you count Pina. Quote
TennZip Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Hopefully, the young man from Brazil that was mentioned in the Beacon article....can get into school and be a starting midfielder Quote
fknbuflobo Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 With 5 HG signings (+ Meves), it is difficult to see the 2012 season as anything but an unmitigated disaster. What an underachievement! Quote
MDZip Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 With 5 HG signings (+ Meves), it is difficult to see the 2012 season as anything but an unmitigated disaster. What an underachievement! A team that goes 17-1-2 and loses on penalty kicks in the round 16 is an unmitigated disaster? Disappointing that they didn't advance further certainly, but a disaster? Quote

Disappointing that they didn't advance further certainly, but a disaster? Comparatively speaking, yes. What other team sends 5 (6) players to the pros in one year? With that talent and experience, anything short of winning a championship was a dis.. well maybe not disaster.. a grave underacheivement. Any way you slice it, getting bested by Creighton at home was an epic failure. I think CP would say the same. What was his mantra? "Build champions and win championships". We must call it what it is, ladies and gentlemen, even if it hurts to discuss (and it still hurts). Onward and upward! Less potential and more success! I will be there. Quote

It was a disappointment, but I don't see it as a disaster. As was stated by the ESPN announcers in reference to the barrage near the end of the 2010 Championship game, Sometimes you just need luck. If your name's on the Cup, it's on the Cup. We just didn't have the breaks vs Creighton in 2012 that we seemed to have vs Cal, Louisville, and others in 2010. Quote
TennZip Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 With Dillon Serna signing a home grown contract yesterday, I am afraid to ask.....what is the latest on Bryan Gallego and the Portland Timbers home grown contract? Quote

All indications are that Gallego is staying. I hear that from many sources. Quote
plowerman78 Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Gallego is still enrolled at Akron and will play for the Zips next year Quote
Ando Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 Maybe sticking with a 4-2-3-1ish/4-3-3 Salaam--Brenes--Koroma --------Stevenson---------- ---Foldsey----Derschang--- Fives-Souders-Gallego-??? -----------Pina---------------- Quote

I also require they be fast. That is why I prefer: Derschang, Gallego, Souders, Salaam across the back. Also consider that Najem is very likely to start at MF right from the jump. Quote

In the beacon article last week, Coach Embick had mentioned a brazilian mid fielder who would step into the Wil Trapp position. this is great news Quote
TennZip Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 only thing that I could find... (it is not much) http://www.football-talents.co.uk/Victor_A...3_7-9687-2.html Quote

At this moment, there is no reason to consider Victor Souto in the starting 11. The good thing is that we will be able to evaluate him in the spring. Quote
plowerman78 Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 here is a picture of him from the 2011 Dallas Cup, described to me as tall and lanky Quote
Crew8 Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 20 year old on the youth team? Interesting. Not saying it's bad, but I consider youth team U-18. Only photo or info I could find on him. I sent a question asking some Corinthian fans if they ever heard the name. http://www.footballzz.com/jogador.php?id=2...mp;epoca_id=140 Quote
yazan07 Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 So Gallego is definitely staying for next season? Bryan Gallego @Gallego_Bryan Watching all these videos and reading all thes articles on the timbers preseason makes me wanna be there noww #cantwait #RCTID and then when someone mentioned him asking about non-roster guys playing for the reserve team in the Summer, he replied with: Bryan Gallego @Gallego_Bryan @ptownEric I will deff b ther in the summer whenever I finish, I really can't wait. Does this mean he is just going to be in Portland training over the Summer and maybe playing in some reserve games? He can't be close enough to graduating that he would be staying to finish the semester and then joining the team in the Summer like some older guys do, right? I still think it says a whole lot about how great of coach Porter is (or maybe just how screwed up the Red Bulls front office is) that Bryan was willing to give up playing for his hometown team to go play for Porter. There was at least one article that featured Wil Trapp that discussed how meaningful it is to play for the team in your hometown that you grew up watching. It was just a really interesting move. My guess is that Bryan will play this summer for the Portland Timbers U23 team (PDL) like Aodhan and DeAndre played for the Sounders U23 team (PDL) last summer. Quote
plowerman78 Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 dont worry folks, again Gallego will be playing for Akron next fall Quote
fknbuflobo Posted January 28, 2013 Report Posted January 28, 2013 Andy Chiu from Akron to Boston College. Anyone got anything on that? Quote
Ando Posted January 28, 2013 Report Posted January 28, 2013 not really surprising, can't recall ever having seen the kid play since he's been here Quote
