  2. Hear Hear !!!! Great point Not that my son is multi star recruit (but a straight solid football player) .... But I have heard so much BS spewed from so many coaches (I can only imagine the crap these high profile 18 yr old recruits hear) that it is tough to trust a word from any of them. ............ The actions you mention above are the proof in the pudding (even suggesting the former UA team physician that now practices here in my area regarding an injury) After spending time with Coach Bowden on three occasions, seeing emails from and hearing my son's conversations with him and Coach Stroud, I am pretty convinced of their commitment to these young men. Anything can happen in college football Coaching, so nothing is a lock, but the fact that my son feels comfortable that this staff will be at UA for his 4-5 years (as do I ) .... Was certainly a nice check mark to have on the top 5 list. Good group of guys/gals that we have dealt with thus far (from TB down )

  3. The 28 teams are: With 5 wins: Houston, Temple, Oklahoma St, Michigan, Middle Tenn St, UAB, Ohio, SDSU, Stanford, Cal, Florida, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Western Kentucky, South Carolina, Navy, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oregon St, and Akron. With 4 wins: South Florida, Pitt, Virginia, Northwestern, Illinois, Fresno St, and Wyoming.Washington has 6 wins but plays 13 games so they need 7.Georgia Southern has 8 wins but are in transition to FBS so they can only make a bowl if not enough teams are eligible. Same applies to App St who has 5 wins and Old Dominion who has 4. Those three teams don't really matter because if we get to six wins, we have to receive a bid before them according to the NCAA regulations.

  4. I think you may have just set a new record for bringing up RPI and SOS two games into the season. Per Dr. Z's link. The spread seems to be between 8.5-9.

  5. Or, it could have to do with both the quality of the official and the quality of fans attending games. Maybe the NCAA is trying to get control over this behavior. Fans watch coaches and if their confrontation towards officials escalates (I didn't think any Zips coach looked over the top yesterday, but fans can't always hear what is said.), so does their abuse of officials. It's one thing to try to get control over students, but when they have to go out of their way to discipline someone in the stands who is old enough to have a grandchild, it says a lot more about the fan than the ref. I don't applaud the NCAA for very much, but if they are making an effort to get adults to start behaving like adults at a public event, I'm all for it.

  6. A final comment on the bad ref: When was the last time you saw a college ref issue three separate formal warnings to both benches and the fans for complaining about the officiating? Could it have had anything to do with the quality of his officiating? An observation about USC: By minutes played, the top 5 Trojans were 3 freshmen and 2 sophomores and the top 8 were 4 freshmen and 4 sophomores. This is a really, really young team. Coach Enfield wants them to play at frenetic speed 100% of the time on both offense and defense. They were blurs on the floor. It looked like they'd never tried to play that fast before, and they made a lot of mistakes. As they grow more experienced playing at this frenetic pace and make fewer mistakes, they could become more VCU-like. It will be interesting to see how well the young players adapt to Enfield's style of play and how competitive they are by the end of the season. On the Zips side, who'd have guessed that Pat would lead the team with Tree-like minutes (30), Tree-like points (15) and Tree-like rebounds (9)? Opportunity knocked and Pat answered. And Kwan is showing way more confidence knowing he's not going to be pulled after a bad shot. The only nervous time came when rock steady Noah went to the bench with 4 personals. Antino started out shaky and the lead started evaporating as USC ran off 8 straight. Antino didn't fold, but came to life with a trey, a steal, another trey and a driving layup to erase USC's 8-point run and crush the Trojans' hopes. Coach Dambrot was shaking his head about Antino's shot selection, but in the end gave him a big grin and a pat on the back. The Zips will be at their best with Noah averaging 30 minutes per game. But Antino should now have more confidence to back him up, and Nyles has also improved his game for added insurance. Big Dog played only 10 minutes. But during one interesting run he was on the floor at the same time as Pat. As Big Dog gets back into playing shape and gets more minutes, how often will we see him and Pat on the floor together? Is Pat capable of playing quality minutes at the 4? Was that Pat who was holding the ball outside the free throw line, making a dribble drive to the basket and scoring at the rim? Pure Twilight Zone. And exactly who is this RooYahoo who just days ago eerily predicted Pat's rise?

  7. There are actually tells where a good keeper can out 'guess' the pack. Degree of body tilt, quick opening of hips into the ball, inside out movement of striking foot, height of weak side arm elbow, etc, Have to read and process it really quickly too! In this area Jake was probably better. During play Ivanov was better imo, but in early PKs he looked lost, kind of just fell over to his left 3-4 times. After about round 7-8 and his players coming to him to be the damn man and fully commit he was better (we can only assume they were trying to get him on track, make it happen). I do not remember Zips going up to stoke Jake after they shot even once. Overall communication has been raised many times on this forum, and in critical times like this it can matter. Then even if you do make the right call on which side and height to commit to there is the matter of stopping balls that hit your hands and arms. Here Ivanov was better as Jake got to a few more but they got thru. Ivanov stopped the ones he got to, even if fewer. You could look at it like errors in baseball but with keepers it is physics, usually the 6-2 190 (looks more like 200) prototype beats the 6-0 160 player. Not always, but usually. Going in I felt shooting advantage naturally Akron, keeper probably OSU. For Embick he did allot with a mostly very young team. With Souto playing in early games and tonight maybe it would have been different and that was not in Embick's control. At the same time there was no getting over the hump even with the trio in the MF in key away games WF, MSU, PSU. One goal in the 3 combined showed where this team was, very good at times but not great. Better as the year progressed overall and lots to look forward too. Rip off NCAA away tonight for sure. Probably won't change so you just have to get over it and be that much better and take it to people even more. Embick deserves year 3.

  8. I feel like there's a lot of white washing here...losing to State Ohio University is absolutely unacceptable. Losing to State Ohio University in the first round of the NCAA tournament, is absolutely unacceptable. What's more insulting, is that the game was played at State Ohio University, when the game clearly should have been played at home. NCAA is such BS.

  9. For the goaltenders, it's a guessing game...they can't react quickly enough to a well struck PK. So you could say they both did a bad job of mind-reading. And very coincidental to have 2 saves in the same round after all the consecutive makes.

  12. Buffalo is a disaster area. With the additional 2 feet of snow so far today roofs are starting to collapse in homes and businesses. People are being urged to stay off roads. Trying to play a football game tomorrow would be irresponsible and stupid.

  14. I think USC is probably not a very good team but I did like the way the team played today. I particularly thought Forsythe looked as good as I've seen him in a Zips uniform.

  15. LOL ........ I was kidding Coaches: My son loved the Coaches first of all .......... Of all of the Coaching staffs he has met and spoken with during the recruiting process, he has built the strongest relationship with Coach Stroud........... Great guy with a ton of coaching experience (and playing),.............. All of the Coaches he spent time with (Bowden, Amatto) were great and all seemed to share the same vision of the program and laid out the rebuilding plan the same (which is on track as they laid it out) Facilities: I have to be honest that on the ride up on the first visit, I was thinking to myself (Akron? really) ......... But when we got up there and toured the facilities, my reluctance disappeared. Excellent facilities ... Comparable to the SEC facilities in the niceness (if that's the word) .......... Only much smaller scaled. Playing time: My son is about 3" short for the SEC (obviously I'm bias) ...........He has talked to and visited most of the ACC, AAC and Sun Belt schools and feels that Akron is a perfect fit for him. He has been in a high school program that is run like a college program (going for third straight state championship and got second when he was a freshman). The defense Coach Amotto runs is the exact defense he has been in since 8th grade so the transition to the program should be smooth. I can see the probability of him being red shirted to add weight, but he is very solid technically. Coach Stroud and Bowden both said that he reminds them of Cody Grice (which is a nice comparison). Coach Bowden told him he would like to use him in goal line situations like Cody as he is a pretty punishing FB ............... He is 6'1 245 LBS now and would like to come in June at 260 lbs............... Probably will be a 290 lb guy as a RS Sophmore Education : Akron has his degree program (Exercise Science) No family in the area He is also excited about the potential of being a part of building the program .......... Again I'm a bit bias, but he fits the mold of what Coach Bowden talks about when he says they want to recruit "good character" kids that know what it takes to win. .......................... He should be a solid player and contributor to the program (he better be !!!)
