  1. What magic situation would have occurred to allow Tom Wistercill to mastermind a "competitive FCS team"? If the Zips were 1-AA under Wistercill's 6-year tenure, they'd suck just as bad as they did at the 1-A level, just against suckier teams and with more anonymity/obscurity. I hope our new AD has a clue. And Bowden stays. If that's the case, this whole "that stadium" issue will soon be forgotten and we'll start drawing respectable football crowds at the 1-A level. And all the 1-AA mongers can go back to spending their days listening to AM radio.

  2. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/13037928/ncaa-announces-rule-changes-2015-16-including-30-second-shot-clock-fewer-outs The shot clock change from 35 to 30 seconds is the only "major" change for the men, BUT wow ... Women's CBB is changing big time! Not JUST to four quarters, but a five personal foul bonus shooting change (back to the way it was prior to about 1975 -- help me out DiG!). And I also heard that in the women's game, all fouls in the final two minutes of the second half will be two shots.

  3. I agree. He is a great fit for an Ohio school. But Vermont would be even better. R.I.P. Zipmeister.

  5. According to the morning news, the 2015-2016 schedule has been reinstated? I'll have some faith in these people if they do the same thing with the upcoming baseball season.

  6. Karen Farkas was just rolling the dice and threw snake eyes: Bob Dyer was just living up to one of his awards:

  7. "All of the money has come from donations made to the university for the specific purpose of housing the university president," said Pavloff. "So we've had previous homes that we've occupied and sold, fortunately for gains. We've put those funds in a separate endowment. In the most recent case of the renovations--even solicited some additional funds. But every one of those dollars has come from donations made specifically for the purpose of housing the university president. There have been no dollars from the general fund that have been used for that purpose." Too bad Bob Dyer and Karen Farkas weren't able to ferret out that information.

  8. Looks like that list might need a key addition The guy seems to have a good track record of securing large donations. Of course, he'll be up against it with the recent news here at UA.

  9. *edit Re read it. My bad. If it sounds anything like when the announcer is speaking it would be inaudible. Also, EJ has seatbacks, and they are padded.

  10. It was a sellout and he was fantastic, as was the earlier event with Jack Hanna. My wife and I generally make it to all the UA Forum Series, which is (was?) very educational for both students and members of the community. Huge loss to both UA and the community if it's really gone.

  11. Yes, they knew their vote had no power and were doing it for publicity - bad publicity. If they had a clue about what they were talking about, they would have known, that just dropping the football team to 1AA was not a realistic possibility given the implications to other sports. Secondly, SS could not come out and condemn their remarks or vote without looking like a jerk and was forced to make the football program look bad, instead. It was incredibly unprofessional and they acted in their own best interests, not those of the students or university. It was selfish and childish. How do you think the football players, band, cheerleaders, equipment managers, and other students who support the program feel about the faculty now? If I were a prospective student that type of garbage would be a huger turn-off.

  12. No they shouldn't. They were only doing what anyone in their position should have been doing. Especially with UA closing EJ Thomas Hall, the financial burden athletics takes up at UA is absolutely unsustainable. Losing EJTH is equivalent to losing the football program. Oh wait, EJTH attracts more people from the local community than football ever does. The person/people who should really be apologizing are the bafoons running the university over the past decade. Their missmanagement of UA has led to this, not the faculty. Edit: But I'd imagine that Bowden will do as he always has done. Until we start winning games, it doesn't matter what discussions are going on, recruiting won't improve. Winning should be the top priority, everything else should be seen as noise.
