  1. Without any regard to who might be the better Quarterback, I think our situation with the lack of playmakers might eventually dictate that Chapman could simply be the better option to move the football because of his multi-dimensional skills. With that said, I'm still hoping that I will be pleasantly surprised with our RBs and WRs. But I'm not holding my breath.

  2. Nobody loves being on that field or being a Zip more than Cody Grice. Absolutely my favorite player to watch. We might know what we get out of him more than the others but what we get out of him is always 100% effort. Want to see if we see him carry the ball again this year.

  4. Several out-of-state alumni have tried to rally support for the baseball program and mounted a fundraising campaign. But even if they raise money they may not have a place to play. "Frankly we need the property the baseball field is on to create a main entrance to the university, which it does not have," Scarborough said. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2015/08/university_of_akron_president_scott_scarborough_knew_addressing_60_million_problem_would_be_hard_but_necessary.html Main entrance to............the soccer field?

  5. For Pitt we didn't, amazingly, it was a 1-1 deal, I think it's a lot harder to do 2-1 deals in football but in basketball with the number of games I could give up a home date if it meant bringing in a big name opponent. The only way the Zips will get the recognition they need is to knock off someone with a name. The tournaments are good for that but it would be great to bring in a name people recognize. But barring that Dave brings up a good point about other mid-majors, I don't believe that no one will come to the JAR that would be a good matchup for both teams that aren't high major conferences. Last year in the 50-100 RPI range you have Valpo, Iona, Harvard, Georgia State, Green Bay, Richmond, Louisiana Tech, Yale, Murray State, Illinois State, Northeastern, La Salle, High Point, South Dakota State. All reasonable mid-major opponents and all of them are terrified of Akron or unwilling to do a home and home series? Have a hard time believing we couldn't set up one or two a year with those types of schools. Even though RPI's vary from the time you schedule them, even in a down year last year the Zips RPI was 120, so that wouldn't be a bad matchup for one of those teams. I'm not asking for Duke to come in, but would Illinois State be so hard?

  6. Aggressive CB play? Let's turn it into some play action success.

  7. Easy, the two best coaches in each teams history - Sasho Cirovski and Caleb Porter. Five Finals appearances and three National Championships between them.

  9. Just checked and found that you can vote as many times as you want in that poll. I changed it from 59%-41% to 48%-42% with about 3 minutes worth of voting. So a few really determined multi-voters on either side could easily swing the vote one way or the other.

  10. GoZips, it's pretty well understood that big-name teams are not interested in playing at the JAR. It's really the steady diet of 250+ RPI teams that some are saying turns them off. I think the question being asked is why the Zips can't cut more home-and-away series deals with higher-ranked mid-major programs like the one they had with Middle Tennessee? They get us to visit their place in return for them visiting the JAR, and each gets a quality home opponent every other season and no one has to pay anyone any money. Are other mid-majors in the Zips' general RPI range not open to that kind of deal?

  11. I will be at both Georgetown and Maryland. Did you happen to notice on Sept 4th the Zips play Georgetown at 4 pm ET and the USMNT plays Peru (friendly) across town at RFK at 7 pm. Not sure when the USMNT roster will be announced, but if DeAndre is included, a mad dash across town will be in order for this Zips Soccer fan.

  12. There is a lot to look forward to: a slimmer, more agile Conner Hundley, possibly Chapman at QB, Jerome Lane and if he can be the big play guy that we need, How good is Donnell Alexander? How much of a beast is Darryl Monroe? Can Rodney Coe live up to his talk? Is what we saw from Brock Boxen at the spring game just the beginning of a fierce career as a Zip? What does the OL look like and can we run the ball consistently?
