  1. I don't care who or where and not sure recruits care too much about that, either. I have my preferences that would make it more plausible for me to go, but I can understand why the kids want to go to the Bahamas. Winning the last 4 of the season, even if they were poorer teams is still a major accomplishment as there is so much parity in the MAC. The bowl bid plus the momentum are very appealing to recruits and getting to a bowl was one of the best things we could have done to help recruiting.

  4. Using the above Orlando Sentinel link shows they now project the Zips vs. NC State in Detroit.

  5. Just my opinion but the Bahamas Bowl, while possibly appealing to the players, seems like a loser for the program. I'd much rather see them stay in the country, and staying within the region would be even better. Going to a bowl game isn't a vacation for the players, it should be about maximizing exposure, gaining traction with regional viewers and prospects, and maximizing the finances of the program for the future. I hope TB was joking about letting the kids decide.

  8. Syracuse leads Seattle 2-0 at halftime Boston College leads Georgetown 1-0 at halftime...that game could bust a lot of brackets Indiana and #1 Wake Forest 0-0 after 48 minutes Indiana leds 5-1 in shots...1 shot for Wake?....they are not the same team without Michael Gamble Phil fives and matt Foldesey both started as midfielders for the hoosiers

  9. Exactly. This is why it surprised me a little when TB made the early statement that the players would have as much say in where they end up as anyone. At some point, financial considerations have to come into play. The Bahamas Bowl, while perhaps the best reward for the team's hard work, seems likely be to be a losing endeavor for UA in terms of cash. At the other end of the spectrum, IMHO, is the Quick Lane Bowl. The last time the Zips went to Ford Field for a game they brought along at least 15,000 fans. Since it's been 10 years since that happened, I believe another strong contingent would follow along once again in 2015. One would think this might weigh in on both the people selecting teams for the 2015 Quick Lane Bowl and UA's ultimate decision (if it's in their hands).

  10. Based on speculation I've seen here I would think that a game against Cincinnati in CONUS would be preferable to a game in the Bahamas. It would garner more regional attention and allow more potential travelers. The decision about which bowl to play in, assuming there is a choice, should be made with regard to what helps recruiting and visibility the most.

  12. Beating Pitt, NC State and Syracuse got some attention. Beating Can't State to qualify for a low level bowl game doesn't. I had my house full of family yesterday for a belated Thanksgiving feast. Most of them are Suckeye Honks. They had no idea about Akron's accomplishment. But, I conveniently placed my Charlie Frye Bobble Head and the Sports Page of the Beacon on the coffee table where everyone could see it as they entered 2005 was a little different. The bowl bid was accompanied by a conference championship. Cincinnati matchup might be the best scenario for us. Ohio football fans would at least be watching the game with some interest, and that exposes Akron to potential future players and fans.

  13. I sure appreciate our soccer-only facility. An NC player tried to place the ball prior to a corner kick and the ball kept rolling back to him. The NC field in general looks a bit ragged/tired. Our field, even in late November, looks great.

  14. Few things from Friday... 1) love the fact I saw in person two wins from the Zips 2) the people who made the football intro video need to teach the basketball people how to do that..my goodness is the basketball video bad 3) did they paint over the sound system in the JAR with all that blue as the speakers sound awful 4) Way way too many 3 point chucks...Dambrot run an offense or just whenever open throw it up

  15. So sad that no one in a crowd in Akron was "fired up" about the Zips beating the Flashes in a season in which the team is Bowl eligible.
