  1. I have to admit, I'd never heard of Ben Lundt before the GU game! He was playing where last year -- in NAIA?!? Kudos to that Embick bellow and his GK coach -- whoever spotted him! He looks like a "keeper"!

  2. We may see Seattle again deep in the post season. Very talented team. All kinds of credit to them for playing up and down the field soccer against the Zips. I also think that Coach Embick and his staff deserve a great deal of credit for making adjustments at half time. Like several others, I sure do not think that Adam was awfully quiet.. He threaded several passes thru heavy traffic. Adam truly has a special vision on what will work on the field. For both games, I tried to watch the action but I also tried to focus on Adam and Victor. They both were all over the field on defense and both are so calm(while being decisive) in making passes and advancing the ball up the field. Victor and Adam's talent and intense competitive fire are going to lead this team to a great season . I thought that both Adam and Victor were outstanding in both games. With all of the surgeries that he has endured, very happy for Tyler Sanda to be the hero. Great student athlete.

  3. that is fantastic for a new program. The south Carolina/clemson mens soccer game last Friday drew 6,900. Interesting attendance numbers for UCLA. Their soccer facility has a capacity of 11,700, I was very surprised to see that last week's UCLA-Maryland game was moved to the Stub Hub Center. Attendance at the Stub Hub Center was 1,134. UCLA hosted Cal State Fullerton this past Monday at Drake Stadium (their stadium with 11,700 capacity. Attendance was 746. Will be interesting to see the attendance for the Akron-UCLA game on Labor Day.

  4. Nice, now they just need to slap some Zips banners on some of the downtown light-poles instead of the UPA signs.

  6. Someone please tell those blaring the stadium music to turn it off after a victory, so as to not interfere with the students chanting. Failing to honor this tradition is tantamount to disrespecting the program. Seriously! We submit the same. complaint. every. season. Are we training a new crew every season? I doubt it. I am not sure who to harass, or I would do it myself.

  8. You really couldn't find someone else as the model?

  9. Ahhh...I think you've got it. He might already be looking for something else to blame, because of his poor performance, and his potentially inevitable exit. I think a college player who has free tuition, room and board, and is still pretty poor would realize they are making a huge mistake, and has a lot to lose. A veteran pro athlete who's already wealthy, lives in a mansion, and truly just wants to be an a-hole can be an entirely different story.

  10. If this happens, I will pull all support for Zips football with communication to the HC, AD, and University President till the player(s) are disciplined, apologize. or are removed from the team. I don't care who they are (or who they think they are).

  11. Actually, Brock Boxen is starting over Hamilton at DT. Copeland is starting at NT. NT and DT are two different positions in the 4-3 defense. According to this article, the DT commonly uses the 3 technique (lined up on outside shoulder of the guard) and NT the 1 technique (lined up on outside shoulder of center). Additionally, these positions are usually manned with players of different body types primarily because of their particular job responsibilities. Compared to the frequently faster DT, the NT is often shorter in height for greater leverage, heavier in weight to create a barrier and clog the rushing lanes, and stronger. The primary job of the NT is to stop the run. The DT must also stop the run and is additionally a more versatile pass rusher.

  12. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/the91stminute/2016/08/adam-najem-college-soccers-best-player-is-already-doing-things/ ...NFL scouts love SEC programs because they more closely replicate the hard-knock rigors of the pro game. The styles are similar and so the risks are fewer. There are a few college programs that routinely produce good professionals, and Akron is essentially the Alabama of men’s college soccer. The coaching and development apparatus are there in a way they simply are not in most other programs. The track record of pros at every level – Yedlin and Kitchen and Trapp and Nagbe and Mattocks and Abdul-Salaam and Bunbury and Zakuani – is not to be ignored. There are no coincidences here....
