  1. It would be great if we can get a large crowd at the JAR January 3rd to witness him potentially setting the record.

  2. I know that Jesus (Chino) will have tremendous support from his family as he continues his college soccer career in the chicago area. Best wishes to this talented young man.

  3. What I've noticed so far this year (from my limited basketball knowledge perspective), is the lack of real-bone headed mistakes and the missing of bunnies under the basket. I haven't looked at rebounding statistics, but the guys seem to be rebounding better this year. PF and his constant injuries last year also was really frustrating to watch. Kwan has really stepped up. He and Ivey really get after those rebounds.

  4. I'm not going to speak for the coach, but I don't think anyone would expect to be ready to rely on 10 guys at any point this season. They are spending as much time as they can afford right now to find out what we have. You just have to get as many people as possible ready to fill quality minutes. For instance, if Aaron, Tavian and Michael (the most likely candidates) can contribute 10 or more good minutes starting next month, I think that's good news for us. If Daniel or Emmanuel end up being capable of doing the same soon, I'd consider that a real bonus, but I don't think see those two guys doing much more this season beyond being situational players who might be inserted at times to contribute the greatest skills they have right now when a situation might warrant. Or, very short stints in a foul trouble or rotation rest situation. If we've learned anything in the Dambrot era, he's going to play the guys he can trust to do what he needs out there. You won't see people out there for every long if they aren't doing what he expects. This year, I'm clearly seeing 6 guys solid, and 3 more guys in limited minutes. I think that's the way it will play out.

  5. Big tackles are at a premium. Personally, I am a big fan of converting big RB's into DT's. I have said before that I think Newman Williams should be looked at for DT but as CK pointed out he is awfully injury prone to play the position. Nico Caponi was a good DT for us because he was a physical specimen and was tough as nails. Cody Grice was very athletic for a big man and also was a tough guy. In recent history, other than these two guys, we have leaned heavily on transfers to come in and shore up the defensive line. When you are so dependent on transfers, they have to come in and produce at a high level. We can't have guys like Jelani Hamilton come in and be a total bust. Perhaps we just got spoiled by the likes of J.D. Griggs, Keontae Hollis, C.J. James, Moses McCray, Albert Presley, Nordly Capi, Rodney Coe and Jamal Marcus. All these guys came in and contributed to the success of the defense. I guess we were due for a letdown.

  7. I'm not going to say that Joe Corner isn't deserving of an offer, and this is just my opinion, but this seems to be a relationship building offer ... which is something I alluded to a week or so back regarding the Akron East prospects. I'm almost certain that Joe and Reggie are cousins, so in a way, you can consider Joe a legacy recruit, considering Reggie Jr. was a high priority for the staff and Joe's uncle, Reggie Sr., is one of the best players Akron has produced in the last 20 years. So, I actually like this offer if it further deepens what seems like is already a solid relationship at McKinley, which is going to continue to produce talent especially now that Canton is down to one school ... not like Timken produced a lot of talent, but the McKinley QB was a former Timken kid (committed to Miami). If this is indeed a relationship building offer (and I'm sure the staff does sees potential in him), while I'm all for it in situations, hopefully those type of offers go out to kids at select schools. In Akron's case, McKinley, East and St. V's are probably at the top of that. Anyway, I wish him the best and another local kid staying home to root for. Let's continue to lock up the "State of Akron," which definitely includes Stark County ... and hopefully down the road Cleveland and all of Northeast Ohio.

  8. According to ScoutingOhio.com, DE Joe Corner from Canton McKinley is committed to Akron for 2017. However, it is strange that there is no mention of this on his twitter.

  9. MDES pulls the upset. Also a bad dau for the MAC as both OU ans UB go down to schools with losing records. Akron needs/better dominate the conference this year.

  10. Our linebackers can't improve if we don't get some big DT's to keep the lineman off the 2nd level, I think that is our biggest hole & I'm hoping the next recruit put on this list can help & hopefully the Bowden name can get a transfer or two as well, we are small up front for D1 football

  12. So... TDM's on fire and, in typical KD strategery, KD takes him out of the game. I will go to my grave not understanding why KD does that.

  13. I thought this article was quite pertinent to what we are seeing at U of A. Maybe President Wilson can add some comment to what if anything we are doing here at U of A. I know we have had some past efforts to link UA to Economic development. I am very interested in what his thoughts, plans and ideas are related to economic development. http://www.wsj.com/articles/to-save-themselves-small-colleges-offer-lifeline-to-their-hometowns-1482316200

  14. Akron's 1 point loss to Gardner-Webb was probably my most humiliating experience as an Akron Zips football fan. FCS opponents are designed to be a guaranteed win to get you that 1 step closer to bowl eligibility and for G5 they are designed to offset that butt kicking you are expected to take from Bama, Michigan, or Ohio State. Playing an FCS opponent that could actually beat you does you no good, only harm. Ask Iowa how that worked out for them. I will just overlook the fact for a second that dropping down would lower our public perception and that our peers would now be YSU and CSU instead of Kent, Miami, and OU. We weren't some FCS powerhouse school the 1st go at it, why are you so sure we would be now?
