  1. Baseball will be back starting in the 2020 season.

  2. Yeah -- this is NOT the type of schedule that is needed by a young team trying to get some level of confidence going into MAC play! Doesn't Arkansas-Pine Bluff have a women's soccer team?

  3. review the past two seasons' recruiting threads. Youth players who can make a career at football/soccer are taking their talent to another shore. In our case look to Las Palmas and Sporting KC, who managed to take away forwards who could have been all-American players as freshmen at UA. We are hardly alone at losing top players however. It is the future of the college game. The good part is that there are so few really good players at this level that winning a national title is becoming something of a crap shoot. We're not out of contention for 2017, IMHO.

  4. Nope. The weather was just warm enough for all of us to wear the gear that we all bought at the Baseball Clearinghouse Sale at the Spring football game.

  5. So just as the team was starting to win and had a pretty good coaching staff, we voluntarily death-penalty the them and bring them back as the NCAA's first attempt at a crowdfunded athletic program?

  6. I am excited to see baseball return, the press release was very interesting, and a lot of things could (should) change between now and then. The first oxymoron is the term "fiscally responsible". Sounds great in theory, but we're talking about major college sports. There is no such thing outside of say, an Ohio State. Right away they're holding the program to a standard that no other program is held to (or could dream of attaining). Let's be honest here. And does "fiscally responsible" mean no travel to the Sunbelt in March? You know, like Softball does? The next point is non-scholarship, or only scholarships that are outside funded. That's great. But in the next breath, he wants the program to play in the MAC. Where the typical program has 6-12 full scholarships. So, we get our asses kicked every game and nobody wants to watch. Me personally, I would either fund the sport like the rest of the MAC, or stay in our lane. I'd much rather play the Malone's and Woosters as a non-scholarship sport then try to play the funded Eastern Michigan's and Northern Illinois'. Some think that's below Akron's status, but they are the same people who don't understand college baseball to begin with, so who cares what they think? They won't come watch us play WestCentral Nowhere State anyhow. Quick question, does the MAC have a Mercy rule? Canal Park. Great idea. I always thought that was a missed opportunity. But you put a lousy product in there, you could play in heaven and nobody would care. Another note, we're only going to recruit in Ohio? First do you really recruit if you have no scholly's? And if you did have them, do you want to limit your recruiting to a state with more scholarship programs per capital than anywhere else? Is a kid from, say, Cincinnati that much better than one from say Hermitage Pa? What the hell's the difference? I'm excited, yet I see so many ways the University can FUBAR this to unimaginable new depths.

  7. Yeah? What's that mean? I was taught there were 2 genders and I didn't need a child's car seat until I was 10.

  8. This is exactly who I believe is potentially our best player for the future. He seems to have all the tools to be a really good QB. Let's hope you and I are right about this and they give him a chance to prove it.

  9. http://unitedsoccercoaches.org/web/Rankings/College_Rankings/NCAA_DI_MEN/web/Rankings/NCAA/DI_MEN.aspx zips did not receive a vote from the soccer coaches... U Mass Lowell....very low in the rankings.... Zips need to have a huge October and play a great game on Sept. 27...as Notre Dame is #1 ; Mich. State #6 ; Syracuse #11 and Western Michigan #12

  12. My buddy and I actually bought tickets twice. I'd bought GA tickets for will call pick up a month back, but when we found we had to wait in a several hundred person line that wasn't moving to pick up our tickets about 30 minutes before kick off, we decided to just go to the 3 person line to buy another set of $15 GA tickets. So I guess the two of us counted as 4.

  13. I was hoping that fan(s) of the 10 personnel would have some good analysis of what they saw from the Zips offense since they played so much of it during this game. I don't have numbers, but I would guess we were in 10 personnel seventy percent of the time. Interesting comment by Jacob. I was unaware that the rule changed. Starting this season, it’s also a foul if he grabs the runner around the nameplate and hauls him down that way. That’s what the rule means by including “the area.” Updated rule.

  15. Are we really gonna have this conversation again?? the attendance for the game is paid attendance. Translation = tickets sold. That means Summa may get 1000 tickets per game as part of the sponsorship. Infocision as well. Add up all sponsors and their "complimentary" tickets as part of their program and you can "adjust" the final number. Pleasr stop with the "yeah but there weren't that many butts in seats" comments. They don't have to actually be there to be counted. Thank you for your attention. Please move along.

  16. Just wanted to say that we were really impressed by Infocision Stadium and the Zips fans that we met. The overall turnout wasn't good, but the ones who were out were a good time. I enjoyed the town as well. Downtown was a little slow Saturday night, but we had plenty of fun Friday night in Highland Square and had a good end to Saturday night at the bars by campus. My only complaint was the absolute cluster f*ck that was picking up will call tickets.

  17. I had this team starting 1-3 and I'm feeling very confident in that prediction. We lost a lot of talent from what wasn't a great team to start with. I've unfairly been labeled a pessimist by this board for sharing my candid opinion on Bowden and the state of our football program. I lost all faith in Bowden after our back-to-back-to-back losses to Buffalo, Toledo, and Bowling Green last season. Losing to Toledo wasn't bad, losing to them by 31 at home was. Who do you bring in to replace Bowden? That's not our problem, it's Larry Williams and his staff concern. Larry Williams made a slam dunk hire in Groce. I trust his judgement in bringing in someone whose better than Bowden.

  18. I have purposely avoided posting here thus far this season. And,I could not articulate it any better than Buckzip. I watched much of the PSU game. Was at the Ark. P-B game. Was at the ISU game yesterday. I wanted to see the Zips actually be competitive against a below average Big 12 team. In reality the reason that the Zips were even within sniffing distance going into the 2nd half was because ISU was 'trying' to do things to themselves that allowed Akron to hang around. But alas, ISU dropped the hammer in the 2nd half and the ZIPS couldn't answer. What have I seen the first 3 weeks? 1) A QB who has definitely lost something. No matter what you may want to say, Woodson's arm is still not 'right'.And it seems obvious that he is trying to protect it by avoiding running. I think the coaching staff probably told him at half time to stop holding the ball so long(which he does to a fault) and either run or ditch the throw. The guy sitting behind me remarked that his best looking pass of the day was the interception. I can't believe Bowden isn't giving Nick Johns a look. 2) The O-Line is well shaky. They have possibilities but they are not there yet. 3) Ball is a TROOPER. Most of his yards he gets 'on his own'. Too bad the line can't give him a bit more room STRAIGHT AHEAD. That's where he is best. I did like the way the finally started using him as a decoy and throwing to him. If he stays healthy he will at least get a look at the next level. 4) The wide receivers are simply a mish mash again. Can't separate etc, etc. I blame that on the coaching staff to an extent. Bowden hasn't been able to consistently bring in decent receivers. So there is no 'next man up' when the team loses WR's like they had last year. You can't always convert QB's to WR's or TE's. 5) Play calling, well its Ground Hog Day. I got it,I got' it..I ain't got it. Apparently that will never change. 6) Defensively, they still generally can't tackle. That has been a trademark of Amato's defenses at Akron. That will not change at this point. Unfortunately,it costs them games. 7) The front 7 gets blown off the ball consistently when teams run straight ahead. They can pursue pretty well but have a hard time filling holes between the tackles. Gilbert is too small to line up at the line. He needs to pursue. He definitely needs to work on pass coverage. 8) The CB's have actually played pretty well. Yesterday they held their own against bigger and more physical receivers. 9) Dumb penalties like the ones this team commits game after game and year after year are a coaching issue. Its never really been addressed apparently because it keeps happening. The trajectory of this team has been downward for the last 1 1/2 seasons. It is nowhere near being competitive with the best teams in the MAC(Toledo,Western,OU,NIU etc). If it can't even win a division in the MAC you have to wonder about progress or lack thereof. Remember this program won a MAC Championship in 2005. I want to see how they play at Troy. That is a better team but plays in a conference that is comparable to the MAC. Its a fair barometer. I think that if there is another sub .500 season, the AD will be looking much more closely at making a change. I have never been a fan of making a change mid season in college sports. I am in favor of making changes on the field position by position. And, I am in favor of the Head Coach making changes in coaching responsibilities in order to improve performance on the field. We will know on October 1. Have at it.
