The inactivity in the portal could be any number of things. It could be a staff that wants to stick with their own recruits rather than risk taking on another team's problem. It could be that the staff is just bad at recruiting the portal. It could be that kids in the portal are looking for a better situation and don't see a team with 1 win on two seasons are a better situation. Certainly, one win in two years doesn't make it an easy sell. In any event, this program needs players that can contribute. There are kids in the portal that meet that description. The staff needs to figure out a pitch that overcomes the initial perception of a program in disarray and make an effective pitch around playing time and being a part of building something special.

As always it comes down to the tournament and whatever comes with that. Our "special" team may not have won their 3rd game against Ohio in the quarterfinals last year. Taking out the bottom 4 makes it a true dogfight in Cleveland. These losses shake the nerves but can anyone predict what will happen in Q-Final match ups between: Toledo/Ball State Buffalo/Miami Akron/Bowling Green Ohio/Kent State But realistically, looking at the scores today, over the past week, and who has the schedule that will build confidence going into Cleveland, the #1 and #2 seeds will be Buffalo and Toledo. The Zips with their 5'8" point guard and "the rest" just don't have a chance to even make it to the finals.

I'm really enjoying reading all of your posts. Please keep posting. There have been times in the past when I felt like I was posting too much and monopolizing the soccer forum. I never meant to do that but rather just being a fan (fanatic) about our Zips Men's Soccer team. Recently, I haven't had as much time to post here: I greatly appreciate TennZip posting all of the previews and other information and love reading others' perspectives. Please keep up all of the great discussions without worry about depth of knowledge of strategies, etc. I never played the game and know I don't pick up on many of the nuances of it, but I learn a lot reading all of your perspectives.
