I'd almost have to assume they'd bring the 3 man to double team as Big Dog would have no trouble passing out of a double team against a 5'9 guard, which could open up Ivey cutting to the basket. WMU does have some size on their bench in the form of 6'11 Luke Meyer and 6'10 Darohn Scott, however, forcing them to sit 1 or both of their starting post players to match our size plays into our favor.

What amazes me is I believe Fleck went from making $800k to making $3.5M and people are questions his integrity. What person wouldn't leave their current job, no matter how much they loved it, if someone offered to ~4.5X their salary.

They are just really undersized and not just with their 2 5'9 guards. Their top 2 minute earners in the post come in at 6'6 and 6'8. They need their shots to be falling in order to stay competitive.

I feel the marginal cost the school spends to go to a bowl game is worth it, particularly if you land in a higher profile bowl like WMU did this year. A school like Akron couldn't afford 4 hours worth of commercials on ESPN. The real cost is what schools spend on stadiums, athlete villages, IPF, coaches, etc to be in a position to go to a bowl in the 1st place. Those are the areas that schools bleed money.

You mean Bowden had success with someone elses recruits while Miles put 11+ seasons in at LSU with LSU never finishing with fewer than 8 wins during his tenure? I think that is the consistent success you talked about wanting to get out of Akron. Not the 3 5-7 seasons and 1 6th place MAC finish we received that resulted in an 8-5 record. Age is Miles biggest deterrant. There really isn't a market out there for 63 year old coaches. Still doesn't change the fact he is a much more accomplished and a far better coach than Bowden.

Are you really trying to compare someone that had a proven track record of success in the toughest conference in America to Rob Ianello who was a WR coach before becoming Akron's head coach? WMU has a 13-1 season and an access bowl appearance to show for it. I'd trade 10 Potato Bowl trophies for that. Minnesota might have taken their coach, but nobody can take away the excitement their fan base had this season. I'd throw $100 down that Akron will never make an Access Bowl appearance with Bowden as our coach. Anyone care to accept that wager?

He's had 1 winning season (a year in which we still finished 6th in the MAC) compared to 4 losing ones so I don't get why people around here want to label him as a Patron Saint. The MAC East was the worst I can ever remember it being and we still couldn't make it to 6 wins. Miles I feel is one of the best recruiters in the game. We saw what Fleck achieved this season at WMU by having the MAC's #1 recruiting class 3 years in a row.

If it was as easy as swapping out Bowden for Miles, I'd do it in a second. Like others said we don't don't have the money to buy out Bowden and even if we did have a vacancy, I'd venture to guess we'd have to pay Miles significantly more than what we are paying Bowden.

I honestly didn't see a matchup problem. We held WMU to under 60 points playing some great D that final ~10 minutes. Outside of Antino forcing a few shots, I thought we mostly got quality looks. Ivey air balled a 3 with the nearest defender 7-8 feet away. Noah couldn't have possibly been anymore open on 2-3 of the ones he missed. Some nights they just don't fall. We lost to an equally as bad Miami team last year by 13 points on a night we couldn't buy a shot. We should be thankful we had our poor shooting night against a team we could manage to overcome instead of someone that would make us pay for it. We don't normally have bad shooting nights at home, but it was bound to happen at some point.

Akron shot under 25% from 3 and still escaped with the win. Finding ways to win when you're having a poor shooting night is what good teams do.

What I saw was we were 3/14 from 3 on mostly good looks and had quite a few turnovers and we are still tied. Still doesn't change the fact that I feel this team has a really high ceiling. It just hasn't reached it's full potential. Hopefully its there come March.

This is like the 3rd email I've received about it. The 1st one thanked me for being a STH and told me as a "gift" I'd be getting this mug that I could pick up at the Marshall game. Since then I've received 2 more emails pushing the date back.

Meanwhile me waiting for my Zips mug that I was initially promised to get at the Marshall game.

Not saying Fleck isn't flamboyant because he is, but I feel it is natural in college athletics for the coach to be the face of the organization. Dambrot defects attention as much as any coach I know, but I'd still label him the face of Zips basketball. In a world where players only stay 3-4 years (or in the case of basketball potentially as little as 1) and start maybe 2 of those years, it is easy to see why that's the case.

If someone offers you 3 1st rounders or 2 1st rounders and a 2nd for what amounts to a DE, I don't see how you don't take it. I don't see any team offering that unless a QB emerges from this class that they are high on. It's also why I think we'll stay at #1 unless some team offers us a deal we can't refuse. The Eagles pick we'll probably trade.

Sign me up for that 3* DT from Cleveland. Attracting 3* players in our own backyard is what we need to start doing if we ever hope to take that next step.

I like the concept, but it is a little too out there for me to like in practice. I want to continue seeing Minn/Wisconsin, OSU/UM, and Indiana/Purdue the last week of the season (ok that last 1 I could do without). There is just so much tradition in those match-ups, not to mention Bama/Auburn, Florida/Florida State, etc if you are looking to expand to other conferences. Eliminating divisions and devising some formula that actually matches up the 2 best teams I'd be for. This year Wisconsin had the 4th best resume in the B1G yet it made the championship game. I'm going to assume said formula would have had OSU/PSU. Had Penn State won that game they would have handed OSU their 2nd loss and being 2-0 vs, them on the year, including a neutral field win would show they were the superior team. Had OSU won they would have improved to 12-1 to PSU 10-3 and would have avenged their tightly contested road loss earlier in the season. Either way there would have been no controversy.

It was a tremendous play and all, but what about that play where Martin pulled the spin move to shed 2 defenders then oop'd it to Poke for the slam? 2 highlight reel plays in the same game!!! What happened to the non exciting brand of basketball Akron team?

Some players will definitely transfer, but him being a players coach might help him soften the blow. I still expect to see Minn bowling next year. In other news WMU right now...

I feel this Akron team has the ability to be as good, if not better, than any of the Akron teams that I've witnessed. When they're moving the ball around, their offense looks unguardedable unless you have a guy big enough and strong enough to guard Big Dog 1 on 1. In order to reach this potential we need to improve our perimeter defense and need 1, preferably 2, guys to step up to provide us more quality minutes off the bench in the post. Not bad for a team that many deemed the "worst Dambrot team ever" after the YSU game.

I'd laugh, but that would just feel too wrong.
