I'm intrigued to watch a new offense next season.

This is kinda where I am at...so tired of watching the product (I know everybody, "injuries", "depth", "Milwee"....spare me) that's followed those early exciting offense-minded display in TB's first two seasons.  Not equivalent, but it's the same way I feel about the basketball team right now with JG.  I'm intrigued and enjoying watching a new system, a new style.  Maybe not winning as much as KD yet, but it is sure more enjoyable to me than the style played prior.

And sometimes that new system, or new style, puts butts in seats, and we so need that right now, a new look-see by Joe Akron.  Of course we then need to perform enough to get them back, but they're not coming back based on what they saw the last season.

A solid COO or VP of Sales at any successful company, with zero football experience, could hire a great football coach at Akron.

As a successful VP of Sales at a successful company, I am READY to take over this search.....you’re welcome ZN board...:wave:

If you really think TB had only one bad season  this discussion is not worth continuing. This was a prudent decision because the team had stopped playing for him and it showed. Financially UA will not end up paying his buyout, just like they didn't pay Faust's. That is being worked out under other budget areas than athletics where TB can be very effective. The decision was further prudent because UA was hurting in ticket sales and sponsorships. TB had lost the paying public. Look at the actual butts in the stands. Our attendance was pathetic. Sometimes less than 1,000 actual bodies in the stadium. & years is enough time to be judged on performance and not wishes or excuses.

Well said, 72...this was just as much a business decision as a performance decision.  If you actually watched, in person or on media, the games you couldn't argue that he had lost the team.  And for those that attend the games and are associated with the program voluntarily or professionally you can't help but notice the drop in sponsorships, in corporate interest, in ticket sales, and in even mild interest by casual Akron fans.  And it spills over in to other Zip sports, as casual or even active Zips fans just stop caring about all things Zip related.  It was time....

For the watch party they only have bleacher seating available? Why not Upper Reserved chair back?

I asked that earlier....now the clarification is chair backs and bleachers and you can bring your own chairs and blanies.....

"While seating in the bleachers and chair backs is available, fans may bring a chair if they so choose."  - on GoZips.com now....(emphasis added by me)

Our scholarship is just as good as everyone else in the MAC. It's a matter of bringing in someone who can sell the kids on the school.

What I wish someone would sell these kids on, and not just here but other non-P5 coaches, is why go to Big-Time State where you are going to be one of 8 QBs or 16 RBs, not even close to being the #1, #2 or #3 on the depth chart, getting your butts kicked daily in practice on the scout team, when you have a better chance of starting for  Smaller-Time U, where you will get visibility and also the same or better education....

Not worded as best as I could but you get the drift....

  6. I loved the watch party Friday, but does the tweet referring to "there will be bleacher seating available mean there will not be chairback available like last Friday?  Also, in case one would want to go elsewere, does anyone know of a sports bar in the area who has committed that it will be shown there, or a likelihood of such?

  7. Well, to take the place of Terry Bowden news for a little bit, here's some nuggets from the Zippy Invitational 3-day Swim meet at Ocacek that just ended last night.  Once more, the Zips showed they ARE the strongest team by far in the MAC, with for other Mac schools present.  The times might not have been as impressive as in the past, but the performances were, and the team seems to be building for the MAC meet, which by the way we re hosting, and beyond that to the NCAAs, as we are a nationally ranked team.  As usual, they dominated all of the relays and a highlight was the SMASHING of their own record in the 800 yard freestyle relay and setting a new record in the 400 freestyle relay.  Freshman Sarah Watson broke a meet record in the 200 IM, won the 100 butterfly and the 100 freestyle, to be the swimmer of the meet, IMHO.   Freshman Sophia Hennell won the 50 free, Karly Crail won the 1 meter diving, Freshman Avery Movold came out of nowhere to win the 200 freestyle, Brooke Lamoureux won the mile (swim a mile!), Freshman Andrea Fisher made a charge to win the 200 breaststroke from lane 1, and Paulina Nogaj set a record in the win in the 200 butterfly.  The men's competition is dominated by Oakland, and there's only 5 teams that show, but the women's side had 10 teams.  The upperclassmen still contributed, and are building their training towards the post season, I think.  Lots of duals ahead.....

Firing a coach two weeks before signing day. Brilliant. Unless they have a ringer lined up, this should have waited until Janiary.

Respectfully disagree.  I think it should have and could have happened after the EMU game, but I think Williams respected TB enough to let the season end and ask for his retirement.  I  think he may actually have and TB said "fire me".  Just my guess.  Putting this off until Jan 2019 would have dulled the senses of most involved.

I have been critical of the athletic dept over the years for lack of promotion...but I will give them a well done on this one...

TennZip, I know I have been critical of your criticism at time as well, and my apologies for that.  This was a nice post by you, and I agree, this is something I haven't seen them try in a long time.  I'm hoping it works out,, and I plan on being there and look forward to sharing with other fans rather than watching at home alone.  Sorry you'll miss it, and thanks for posting this.

  10. Zippy Invitational begins Friday morning and runs through Sunday evening.  If you want to watch Akron's OTHER nationally ranked team, you can come to Ocacek Friday and walk across to the JAR when the 400 Individual Medley relay is over and cat ch the soccer match on the jumbotron...

Nationally ranked, 5 straight MAC Championships :champs:, Hosting BIG 3-day Invitational with 10 teams.... no one seems to care as far as coverage goes.  Maybe they'll have one of those little plastic signs on the corner of Carroll and Spicer that says "Meet Today"....

Side note: when looking at the scores from Bowden's first couple of years, this offense was a lot more fun to watch back then.

You're right, it was "funner" to watch back then.  The first few years Bowden played a wide open game, with nothing to lose.  I remember his first interviews he always threw in "we're gonna chuck it down the field" and he repeated it ad naseum, and he actually did it.  It was fun football to watch.
