I can't believe there are people stupid enough to believe there isn't enough donor money lined up to buy out his contract.

If there is donor money lined up better take it now, because if there’s another season  of mediocrity and back-sliding, the money we’ll will all but dry up...

Zips athletics department and media department need to get together to stream this game on the "jumbotron" at the JAR immediately following the basketball game.

    We owe Stanford.

God, that’s so funny!  I was thinking the same thing on my way to Swenson’s after watching.  Thought I post a poll to see who would show up at InfoCision to watch!  Since it is December, at 9 p..m.  Maybe start by showing on big screens on 7th floor and see how many show, if it’s crowded, open up the suites on 5 and 6 and let everyone sit in luxury and power up the big screen outdoors....

I think the FUBAR called the Bowling Green game set up the expectations we have now. And for the most part, the Ohio game just backed them up.

...from a team that won the division title and went to a bowl game last season.

Blaming the fans or soccer is a bit myopic.

Who’s blaming the fans or soccer?  Can’t remember seeing that in this thread....

Something has to happen to salvage what is left of the fan base and more importantly the booster base.

Hit the nail on the head HT.  What is happening is this team didn't have a huge fan base to begin with, but what we did have gave a crap about what was happening.  Now the team has become irrelevant to the fan base, more people care about the soccer team.  Basketball is exciting a lot more of the fan base, not because they are winning, obviously, but because there was change, and the change has led to a more exciting brand of ball, and more people are talking about them, it not attending.  From the Miami second half debacle, no one out side the loyal Zip base even thinks about Zips football, at least not in a positive manner.  We've become an afterthought, and that's not good.

Wake Forest finally has a news release out on the game

    https://wakeforestsports.com/news/2018/11/23/mens-soccer-soccer-gameday-no-1-wake-forest-vs-no-16-akron.aspx

it is interesting to me to compare ticket prices

Wake Forest will charge $8 for NCAA round of 16

Syracuse charged $6 for NCAA round of 32

Akron soccer charged $20 for round of 64

my conclusion - Akron has to charge more....to cover the costs of the disappointing gridiron team that can not pay off the huge costs associated with Infocision stadium.

I guess I thought the NCAA would set pricing for the games uniformly throughout the tourney....surprised, thanks for the comparison.

The other thing that amazes me about Akron soccer and their dominance, this was the first year ever since joining the MAC in 1993 that the Zips had not finished in either first or second place in the conference regular season and yet they still made the NCAA tournament.

And the way the record for the most MAC tournament titles is now held by one Jared Embick (Akron coaches hold the top three spots with Porter and Lolla following Embick). But perhaps even more incredibly Jared Embick has never been named MAC coach of the year.

    MAC Men's Soccer Record Book

That is incredible.  Most of the MAC sports, especially the “lesser” sports, I.e. track, swimming, Xc, baseball, the coach of the champions are an “automatic” choice...rarely another coach....Wow, nice catch...

    What a troll?

Last Saturday I sat in person and watched Ohio State give up 50+ points to Maryland and they gave up 49 to Purdue.

That same Akron Defense shut down a Big Ten Team (Northwestern) who is playing either Ohio State or Michigan in the Championship.

Either you clearly live in a cave tucked away in Summit County or you flat out don't watch football at all.

One game against a B10 school does not make season, nor does OSU vs. Maryland.  Okay Mr. I Watch So Much Football expert, did you not watch Buffalo kick our D’s Butt?  Miami? A pathetic BGSU?  You are blind if you think this D even is in the top half of the MAC.  They just gave up over 200 yards i the first half for cripes sake, once again, I’m not blaming them, just trying to say those who think this D is stellar, may be over stating it.  A “really good” D makes stops even when the offense is struggling, and we don’t even hit the .500 mark in that category.  They’re all we have, so we tend to give them a pass, but they don’t make the big stop when they need to.  Watch the replay of the Buffalo game, the Miami game, the Northern Illinois game, the Bowling Green game, the. Tell me how many meaningful stops they made.

    I disagree

Without hesitation I proudly say Akron's Defense is better than Ohio State's Defense this season.
Its hard for ANY defense to have an impact when the offense keeps going 3 and out not giving the Defense time to breathe.
Like @Blue & Gold said just now Akron just scored their 1st touchdown in 11 quarters.

How can you be taken seriously by saying stuff like this?  What a troll.

I feel for Akron's Defense. The offense can't move the ball I can't fault the defense at all. Defense been balling all season but with this offense you would never know especially looking at the stat sheet.

Dre, I know the offense stinks and has all year, and I know it has an effect on the D, but too many want to give the D a pass.  They are average at best, and have given up huge total yardage games all season long, and I’m talking teams like Bg and Miami, before the point where they would be tired by too many 3 and outs by the horrible offense.  They DO bear some blame....

  10. Well, the Women's Swimming and Diving team continue to dominate the MAC and more coming in to the big Zippy Invitational at Ocasek weekend after next, and they took Cleveland by storm again last weekend.  The swimmers won their fourth straight Magnus Cup at Cleveland St.  It still highlighted some individual class too.  The team set 4 pool records, and 7 meet records, and the records they broke were previously held by some pretty well-known swimming schools.  Astonishingly, the Zips won 15 races over the weekend.  And yes Paulina Nogaj (spelled correctly here!) had a stellar weekend, as did Brooke Lamoureux, Paula Garcia, Sarah Watson, Sadie Fazekas and Avery Movold, and others I probably missed.  Seriously, you want to see a Zip team that should give any Akron fan a grin of pride, come out to the Zippy Invite, even for a session or two, and you'll be amazed.  And if you like Men's Basketball at he JAR, S & D even have their own "Chuck a Duck" contest with real water!  :champs:

Help me understand further because I only see what the camera lets me see. Do you think LePear was being "coached" on getting back in sync with the team, not understanding his role or more of an effort / attitude issue?

It was like helping him, getting back in sync, understand the plays they were running, not an attitude issue.  It was very positive, kinda reminding him of where he should have been, what set they were in, stuff like that, but the leash was short and his PT I think was more determined by in sync issues rather than fitness issues.  Just my take from where I sat.
