  1. I think 1 and 2 get byes, 1 hosts semis and final. 3 plays 6 at home, 4 plays 5 at home. 1 plays winner of 4-5, 2plays winner of 3-6. I think....
  2. Don’t believe so...since they joined the MAC only us and WMU have hosted, I believe....
  3. It sure does look nice seeing the score on the tickers watching the other college games...makes me smile.
  4. I've been a YUGE KN critic, but I've gotta hand this one to him....he was the force here. knew they were gonna fake the PAT, everybody did....
  5. holding on a pass play....way to go Zips!
  6. Spoke too soon about the defense.....
  7. Promising start first couple drives then typical stupid penalties and a turnover. But the defense seems to have it together....can't believe we didn't score on 1st and goal from the 4....
  8. You could see it coming, sorta. The women have played 5 overtime’s, lost 5 times 1 nil, had a couple nil nil draws. But a 2-1 road win on Sunday at Miami added some confidence. But tonite they hosted an undefeated in MAC play Bowling Green, 8-0-0. And the match was played for the most part in the final third in the Zips defensive end. But they held, and Erin McKinney, freshman goalie, had 11 saves on the night. And Senior Mid Shea O’Brien who subbed back in after a late breather with about 3 minutes left, bombed in a 25 yarder to the upper right corner with less than 2 minutes remaining. McKinney made her final save with less than 30 seconds left. Huge win. Biggest since they won. Quarterfinal MAC tourney match 4 seasons ago...
  9. Last Friday night and all day Saturday was a good look at the upcoming Zips Swimming season, and it looks bright. No diving comp to see, but the six teams present were all getting their feet wet (sorry!) on the season, so there was no real standout performances, although there was a Miami man who broke a pool record. For Akron, it was disappointing to see Maddie Meyers out of uniform due to a shoulder injury. Hopefully we'll see her in-pool soon, she's a national caliber swimmer. Zips dominated the relays as usual due to their depth. Paulina Nogaj won the 200 IM and the 100 Butterfly, Sadie Fazekas was a triple winner, with the 50 free, the 100 Backstroke and the 200 fly, Jackie Pash won the 400 IM, Newcomer Sofia Hennell won the 200 free, Paula Garcia won the 100 Breaststroke and the 200 Breaststroke, another newcomer Avery Movold won the 200 Backstroke, and Ragen Engel won the 100 free. The women have a dual meet upcoming against Buffalo October 26th and then the big Zippy Invitational three day meet is early December. Hard to see any MAC team taking away their 5 year reign atop the tables.
  10. For starters....lots of critics here for years about our big expensive football stadium. Kent still sucks because their stadium is so rinky dink...and they still can't fill it either. Kent still sucks because their marching band is more like a marching "combo". Kent still sucks because they were stupid enough not to try to get long-time Kent Roosevelt coach and hero John Nemec on their staff....and we did! Kent still sucks because their field house is a piece of dung, they have no track and field facilities (outdoors), no soccer stadium...okay, off topic, sorry. But they still suck because we have The Wheel!!!
  11. Has anybody else given any thought to the logistics of adding any additional NCAA sporting event for both schools involved? And then think how much harder doing so for a football game, where 150 plus personnel are involved team-alone? Scheduling a venue, lining up support staff, lining up referees and officials, selling tickets, making sure all contractual arrangements are covered, etc, etc etc....? It's got to be tough enough to do one season to the next, let alone in a 6 week time-frame. And would the effort and additional costs really pay-off, if we won the potential game to move to 6-6? To go to another low-level bowl, and try to attract a few...very few....recruits who might see going to a Tart Cherry Bowl as some sort of nirvana? Count me on the "Meh" side as Balsy says.....
  12. I agree Lee...but to say this D is “very good”....nah.
  13. Yesterday’s news Doc, we live in a 24 hour news cycle...
  14. One of my favorite Zips sweatshirt is navy (pretty faded now) with a chenille script Akron in gold....bought it at Rubber Bowl final season....still get raves about it, even from some of current Zip athletes when they’ve seen it....I too like the Scripts. Plus it reminds me of when the marching band used to perform “Script Zips” with a tuba player dotting the “i “ ....take that Suckeyes!
  15. Kinda funny...during today’s game the Browns p.a. Announcer called Jatavis’ name twice on tackles, mistaking #52 for #57...his spotter probably mis-identified. Funny, because he’s the Zips p.a. Announcer too!
  16. Last 4 drives...6 plays 57 yds. 14 plays 58 yds. 3 plays 88 yds. Then a fig. “Very good”? Don’t think so....
  17. I know the guys”in the know” have (rightly so) told us RPI is more important than the polls, but even so, how can we go from being ranked 2 in preseason to this? Past reputation, probably? I don’tknow, just asking anyone’s thoughts...
  18. Maybe not today, but did you not watch the 27 straight points Miami put up. A 1 and 4 Miami team. I agree the D is all we have, but 27 easy points....
  19. At swim meet. Turned on during break and could tell right away by Frechie’s tone how it was going. At least getting to see some Zips excel...
  20. Besides Track and Field anyway....I know soccer is back in town Saturday, but the most successful team at Akron for the past five years has been the Swimming and Diving Team, 5-time MAC Champions (after never finishing higher than 8th). They picked up the home-meet schedule nicely this season, adding about 3 new events to Ocasek, and the first is this weekend's first annual Akron Zips Classic, Friiday night at 5 and Saturday at 10 and at 5. And they are bringing in Cincinnati, Xavier, Miami, Cleveland State and Dennison. Cincy men won the AAC and women 2nd in 2018, CSU men were 2nd and women 3rd in Horizon League, and Dennison is the 4 time NCAA D3 champions on the men side and 4th in 2018 on the womens side. Swim meets can be exciting, especially as all events will be timed finals, no prelims, and there is no diving this weekend. Wear shorts and short sleeves if you come....
  21. I've already voiced my opinion that we're going to get swamped. by at least 21 points. I calmed down and thought about it, especially after getting a sad emogi on my comment, but I just keep reliving the Miami second half and can't change my mind. I think the D will try hard to get to Tyree, and I think the whole team will try hard to win, but I just don't see a runnung game, nor a consistent game plan on offense, and I think Kato's first instinct is to run the ball when there is even a little breakdown in the pocket. I truly hope I'm wrong, not trying to rip these fine young men, but ZippyRulz is right....
  22. I'm sorry, but his passes lack more than accuracy. He has poor mechanics. Watch him vs. even a mediocre QB like Ragland last week. We need a QB coach or specialist to work with him on his motion and release number 1....Hell, the ball takes more time from the time he brings his arm back to release than it does to actually get to the receiver....
  23. Oh yeah....way to get back on track...nice win continued dominance vs. Big 10, and confidence builder. When was the last time we not ranked top 25, TennZip or ME87?
