  1. You're right, they fire coaches that have been there for over a decade and won multiple conference championships and a national championship when shit like this happens. It's a lot easier to fire the slapdick who has been here f-ing things up for a couple months in my opinion. It might be easier, but the reality is Akron has a much tighter budget than those national championship schools.
  2. Fire a coach after 2 games? Get real! The BIG money schools don't even do that.
  3. If the University does not take the Nemers property I would think it would be attractive to a private developer, but it's doubtful that any company would be willing to pay much more than a million dollars tops for that land.
  4. The Auburn parking deck is being converted into classroom space. The parking deck across the street is going to be expanded.
  5. One nice bonus for the Zips getting into the NIT was getting two games on national TV. Most of the early round NCAA games are shown on regional TV and can be play at odd times. The down side of the NIT is that the big schools get to play at home.
  6. The last parcel for the stadium's footprint may have been purchased. The banner on the Odd Corner store reads "Moving April 27th to 360 E. Exchange".
  7. December 28th a date to remember! Today the first of the construction fencing was installed for InfoCision Stadium/Summa Field covering most of the block South of the Stile Field House. Things should start rolling in January.
  8. What could make Akron attractive to the Big East if the conference expands in the future? Location, the Big East Conference would look at adding exposure into large nearby TV markets which makes NE Ohio attractive. Akron's great success in men's soccer. Facilities are important and the Big East has been holding their indoor track and field championships at Akron. Akron's golf team plays at the famous Firestone Country Club. When completed InnfoCision Stadium will be one of the best around. When Akron sold over 10,000 tickets for the Motor City Bowl, conference bosses noticed.
  9. Dambrot is right. Why would we invest in a 10,000 seat arena when we never fill a 5,500 seater? I'm planning to show up to every game I possibly can, both Men's and Women's. The better attendance we have, the better our chances are of replacing the JAR.This arena concept is being led by the city. The city looks to feature UA basketball and a minor league hockey team. A new hotel on site to replace the Crowne Plaza at Quaker Square could also be added.
  10. Why lose our Zips Nation, our identity, and our traditions? The University of Akron has came a long way and is really blossoming into to an excellent urban university. Let CSU merge with Ohio State, that would make for OSU Cleveland. Most of Cleveland loves the Buckeyes already so they'd be happy.
  11. Having 3 small guards out on the floor equals with no center will normally spell weak rebounding. Better get some game time quick for Bardo and Mcknight if you want to compete on the glass with the big boys down the road.
  12. It's a shame Akron doesn't open the 2006 season at home that would have made for a real attendance bonanza coming off the excitement of the Motor City Bowl and 1st MAC title. Now the Zips will probably need to win at least two of their first three games to maintain the area's enthusiasm for the home opener in late September.
  13. CBS Sports' pre-season football magazine has Akron playing Big East Pitt in Toronto for the first International Bowl. That may not happen, but we do play at Big East Cincinnati. Beat a Big East team that would be a start.
  14. This a typical Zip football schedule and is one of the reasons that we have home attendance problems. Three of the five home games are in November when the weather can be lousy. Most fans are anxious to get out to those early games in September especially this year when they're still thinking about last year's Motor City Bowl. Then there's October which is a great month for home football games in Ohio.
  15. UAM did a fine job and was very creative. MAC to Big East, people move up. In the future, UA will probably lose more coaches and staff that results from this university having success. People around country are starting to take notice.
  16. Both Luke and Frye are top UA QB's both passing for over 3,000 yds a season. Comparing their records would be tough. The MAC had some great talent when Frye played...Roethlisberger and Leftwich to name a few. Coaching is also key...with JD UA and Frye were bowl eligble in 2004. Frye had to settled for Senior Bowl MVP.
  17. I'm sorry to see Bubba go, he was a fun player to watch. I think not starting was the issue. Young players need to realize playing time can change at anytime. Last January when Wood went down with the knee injury it changed playing time for everyone on the team. The bottom line is learning to put the team first and grow from there.
  18. Akron has a great soccer tradition which dates back even prior to Lolla's fine tenure. The Zips always play a very strong national schedule. Also Akron enjoys being located in very strong area for high school soccer talent. The next UA coach will be moving into a real opportunity for this one of the most respected programs in the Midwest and the nation. Zip soccer will take a backseat to no one.
  19. Let's not over look the final games of the MAC regular season when UA-Can't State, OU-Miami and BG-Toledo compete. These rivalry games will shake out the final MAC East standings.
  20. It's time for some ENERGY! Last night Luke had guys open, but he was throwing ducks. Getsy has been in this pattern since the NIU game, but even worse has been his interceptions thrown that made for big swings in the CMU, Miami and Army games.
  21. From the Beacon story let me jump back to an article that was printed in the August 29th issue of The Buchtelite which featured an interview with Proenza. On the topic of the new stadium the following was printed: A business plan for the stadium should be in place by the end of September, Proenza believes. As for the blueprints, the administration has been kicking around designs for the past several months.
  22. Three's company? It might be if you look at the Akron to Cincinnati connection. When Bob Huggins left UA for Cincinnati it was AD Mike Bokinski who had to hire the next coach (Hipsher). Later Bokinski left for Cincinnati to take the Xavier AD job. Now Mike Thomas is in Cincinnati, and as the new Bearcat AD he will have to hire the next replacement for Bob Huggins.
  23. The ABJ deserves some credit for putting the Zips on the front of Sunday's sports page. I was surprised. Zip road games have rarely found their way onto page one. I believe this was the first time this season. I don't remember the Purdue game being on page one. The Zips' home game with CMU and road game at MTU did not make page one. Maybe all those e-mails from Zip fans helped! Let's keep pushing for better coverage.
  24. Let's hope this was just Getsy bad game for the season. He looked frustrated. He's passed for well over 1200 yards in only four games. The NIU game Getsy would be great for the remaining season.
  25. Ahead 28 -14 with a little over two minutes left in the first half, Akron transfered to their prevent defense. It took nine plays, but the Huskies went down the field to make it 28-21 at the half. The Zips did seem more successful in their regular game defense where they were putting pressure on Horvath.
