True, true. We need more Zips fans though, but maybe that's asking too much considering the state of the program. lol.

So...what you are all saying is, essentially, they need to win. Haha. Well, I hope this next coaching hire starts the process upward. It's been a long, long road in recent years. Goodness. I'd love to see a good crowd at a game for once.

General question: What keeps the stadium from NOT being packed? (Besides winning, of course) I know winning is the most obvious answer, I know, but is there anything else? All Akron homes games have started at 3:30 this year. I wasn't sure if that was a MAC decision for them to not compete against Ohio State being on TV. (Which, that has always annoyed me about Ohio and everyone being a Buckeyes fan for the sake of it, but that's another story) I wonder if the Akron community would support the Zips in full if they had a better team? I mean, I assume so, but sometimes when I'm out I feel like I'm the only Zips fan lol. People are always surprised to hear I have season tickets. But yeah, winning would go a long way, but are there any other thoughts? I see this year any HS student in Stark, Summit, and Medina Counties get it for free with a student ID, but it doesn't seem to have brought much in. I don't know, just wanted to ask generally to get thoughts and opinions. (Also, that article that was posted in crap. The stadium is one of the best in the MAC. Not the stadiums fault the Zips haven't been good).

Not only will I be rooting for the Zips to get the W, but will be very happy for Coach Rodriguez with a win. He's a come a long way both personally and professionally, so a W as a head coach would be a great addition to his story.
-
No need because according to sources, Akron is the only job Nick Saban said he would leave Alabama for.... Okay, um...actually, I'll take the cardboard cutout
-
I swear, he's a relative of him or something LOL

That's a really solid point you make. It should be a thorough search too, for sure! I want to believe Guthrie is going to try his hardest to get this right, so you're right, he should look at anyone and everyone. Whoever is hired I am going to stand behind (well, besides a HS coach...) because I have a feeling Guthrie realizes how badly the program needs help and I am only going to put my faith in it. I can only assume this was a huge topic in his interviews for the job.

Oscar Rodriguez seems like a really good guy, but I don't think he's an option like the article suggests unless the Zips win out and they blow every opponent out or so. I think Guthrie wants to start fresh and hire his own guy to bring in their own guys who will be fresh faces to the program. Just my opinion. With this being a huge hire for Guthrie's want to continue to climb the ranks, I think he has his own plan that doesn't involve anything from the Arth era. I, of course, can't say this factually though. I've been proven wrong many, many times in life when I've assumed. Haha.

Awesome! That could be an exciting option. Thanks for the response!

Why is he your # 1? --- And this is not an arrogant question to question your choice, I'm honestly asking. I don't really know much about him, so I'm curious to hear from a Zips fan as opposed to looking at a resume on Wikipedia! 😂

-
His XFL salary was on par with what Akron could likely give him, no?
-
I agree. Since Arth was an utter failure, In think a HS coach, no matter how successful, is a HUGE risk. I don't see Guthrie, who knew the pressure coming into the job of making the football program successful, would go this route.
-
I hate to say this but the coaching search may be the most exciting thing about the season. UGH. But, yeah, the anticipation on the search and any news is going to be fun. However, I'd rather the fun be on the field. But times are hard for Zips football fans.

Spot on to my thinking!! Help us win, set us up, and bring us Akron's version of Lincoln Riley to take over.
-
I know Bob Stoops isn't the popular choice on here. And I'm not advocating. But I will say that would get the attention of people, including recruits, I think. But I know, I know, wrong choice. I heard it before lol.
-
I agree. And I really hope Guthrie is smarter than that. I don't think he fires Arth with that option in his mind. But...I can surely be wrong. But I choose to believe that is not the plan lol.
-
Needless to say this isn't the worst thing Arth has been through lol.
-
I've seen his name posted around here, and I must say I'm interested!
-
Well, sadly, it is that time again for the program. Post all things here!
-
Seems like a great guy, best of luck to him. I think this is the right decision though.
-
Well, I guess I wasn't too far off the mark.
-
Just another game to fuel Guthrie to get rid of Arth. We can all likely guess the outcome here of this game.
-
I was literally about to post in the Ball State thread: "I wonder if a loss here seals the deal for Arth" We shall see!

This WKU/MTSU joining of the MAC would be a good thing....yes/no?
