  1. Bump for spring depth chart update.
  2. Keylen Davis was at the game today and introduced as a 2022 signee at halftime. So probably safe to add him as it sounds like he just wasn’t an early enrollee.
  3. I did see the TD pass to Gaithings. Gaithings beat his man (I couldn’t see who the DB was) and Marousek hung the ball up there too long. Gaithings made a great adjustment and caught it, while being interfered with. He then took it in for the last 5 yards or so. I also saw the TD pass to Hester. It was a similar play - maybe even the same play - that was run for Williams earlier. There was a bust on the defensive coverage as Hester was wide open. He made one guy miss and was gone.
  4. I was able to attend, but only caught the 2nd half. There was so much traffic on the way from Columbus. A few thoughts off the top of my head: - The offense is ahead of the defense at this point, but the defense was mostly playing out of its base. - Offensively, a lot of RPOs and getting the ball out on the perimeter. - Irons and Marousek had their moments, but also some passes that made you scratch your head. - Wiley is very strong in the lower body. He’s elusive, hits the hole quickly, and will run through arm tackles. - Williams looked great catching the ball out of the backfield. He should excel in this offense. - Singleton and Walker looked sharp running routes and have playmaking ability. - Defensively, no one really stood out. I probably missed most of the starters in the first half. Part of that was due to the offense getting the ball out quickly and both OLs looked solid. Blue OL from Left to Right: Daniels, Banes, Georges, Robarge, Williams White OL from Left to Right: Gray, Lyons, Beckman, Kilbane, Chambers - Defensively, we mostly played a 4 man front with either 1 edge standing or both edge players standing. Due to multiple WRs in almost every set, it was usually a MIKE LB and a WILL LB, with the WILL often matched up against the closest inside WR. That’s all I have. I would have loved to have something to report from the first half, but alas it wasn’t meant to be. Spring Game rosters linked below. https://gozips.com/documents/2022/4/29/fb_springprogram2022.pdf
  5. UT’s offense can put up points in a hurry. It’s not a complicated offense, but they move very quickly and put a lot of pressure on the middle of the field - in particular the linebackers and safeties. If we’re not disciplined, the game could turn ugly in a hurry. If we can get through MSU, UT, and Liberty fairly healthy we should have a chance to win every game in the MAC. I’m not saying we will win every game, but with the influx of talent to the roster, I don’t see any reason why we won’t be competitive in every MAC game.
  6. One of those where the physical talent is there, but the rest isn’t clicking. I’m sure there are more to come as I believe 5/1 is the cutoff date for portal entries, unless they want to sit a year.
  7. Woobendy Guerrier hit the portal. Too bad as I thought he might eventually push for starting minutes.
  8. I emailed one of the coaches to see if the game would be televised or streamed. Unfortunately, the answer was no.
  9. It’s incredible what JoeMo is doing. Jim Mora is doing something similar at UCONN. Don Brown at UMASS has probably brought in the least amount of talent as far as new head coaches go for 2022. I suspect another QB will be brought in before it’s all said and done. Players are piling into the portal this month as spring ball wraps up across college football.
  10. Not a knock on either one of those guys. I’m excited to see how both continue to develop. It was more of a compliment to George and what he could potentially bring to the table.
  11. Yep! Talent wise, he’s now the most talented WR on the roster. Let’s hope the staff brings out the best in George and Adams. They could be dynamic.
  12. Great job!!
  13. When in doubt, check Twitter. Haha. Looks like Stallworth and Keylen Davis are still in this class, but were not early enrollees.
  14. In the past he hasn’t used much FB. He mostly stays in the 11 personnel - meaning 1 TE and 1 RB. He’ll move the TE all over the field though. The TE may be in-line, set as a wing, split-end, or in the slot. Occasionally Moorhead will run 2 TE sets, but that’s not the norm for his offense.
  15. Thanks. Added. Portal activity has picked up the pace again and it’s hard to keep up.
  16. That’s a great question and one I’m not sure about. @LZIp has a running tracker, but it’s hard to know which former walk-ons are now on scholarship. There is an 85 scholarship limit for 2022 and we can bring in 32 players on scholarship for this year’s recruiting class. Probably means we will have some players transfer out soon.
  17. Did Stallworth make it in with this class? Not sure how I missed him.
  18. We haven’t heard much about him, but Quevan Lawson physically looks the part from that short clip. I love the way Ty Durant stayed with the play. That was impressive hand-eye coordination on display.
  19. Bump for the addition of Whigan.
  20. Sorry, this should have been under the 2022 thread. I got a little too ahead of myself due to my excitement.
  21. What a massive pickup! He’s an athlete playing on the OL and can play anywhere on the OL. He’ll have 1 year of eligibility left. It all starts up front and the Zips are going to surprise a lot of people this year.
  22. Add OL Anthony Whigan to the committed list. Edit - He entered in January, but his commitment bumped his activity to today. Either way, great pickup!
  23. Bump for addition of Nate Thompson.
  24. There have been multiple comments from this staff implying that the previous coaching staff did a poor job or had the players inefficiently conditioned. Can’t really argue that if solely going off the team stats or overall record, but not everything done by the previous staff was poor. I hope this staff - and I think they will - backs up this talk with excellent play in the field. I was going to adjust my thoughts accordingly on a 4 man front scheme, but this is the second article I’ve seen mention a “multiple” front, so I guess I’ll wait and see. Sounds like they still don’t know for sure and are letting what the players do best dictate what will be ran.
