2025-26 Post Mortem and Looking Ahead to 2026-27
ZipsBBjunkie replied to Zippy87's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
What’s the deal with Stankovic? Are we assuming he is going to develop under Dustin? What the thinking on him and how he fits into next year? -
One thing to consider is John continues to have the chance to coach his son at UA - now what, only two years away from celebrating senior night with him at UA which you have to think would be incredibly meaningful. Another son in high school here. A lot of factors behind decision like this. Not to mention, his name could be floated around, certainly he’s established his reputation as one of the best mid-major coaches in the country, but competition for all of these jobs is fierce out there, no guarantee he gets any opportunity to leave.

Wish I had put some money down. Damn

Goodrich to Syracuse?
ZipsBBjunkie replied to ZipsBBjunkie's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Well they did go with a MAC AD! Maybe he’ll bring TK with him to Syracuse haha. -
Agree

Also interesting timing to get it out the door. They also must be reading the board. Funny how the message references how busy they’ve been. -
Let’s enjoy this week and remember how good we have it right now! MAC Tourny one of the best experiences in college basketball!

This reminds me of an airport recently 'banning crocs and pajamas'... is there really a promo that says that 'swearing will not be permitted?' 😂

Or continuing to open the door for greedy lawyers to uncover the next supposed loop hole allowing them to file suit on behalf of some 'student' athlete willing to go along with it and therefore pausing any forward progress. I'm just disenchanted and not as optimistic as you are that the current state of chaos has any near term resolution. But I'm hoping I am wrong, you are right.

This thread got your attention? 😂 Per @zippy5 suggestion, this is a new thread for a topic that came up in response to a comment from @ZipsFan31 asking about the Zips Fan Council announced on Dec 10: https://gozips.com/news/2025/12/10/general-akron-athletics-launches-zips-fan-council Now, if you choose to engage in this topic, just remember the wise words of @NWAkron 'Everything one reads on the internet and the speculation and assumptions that follow are always true' and the follow up noting there's a troll tied to this topic that is being fed...maybe referring to me?! Not sure, I simply responded to the question about the Fan Council with an admittedly snarky reply that maybe he'll get to it when he's done interviewing for the open AD job at Syracuse. I also shared that the relationship to John Groce in the midst of a likely Syracuse MBB search could be a feather in Goodrich's cap, as source mentioned to me that he was specifically playing this up. Worth noting, in the other thread there were a handful of reactions including @Hilltopper stating today he isn't getting the job and wasn't a finalist. That could very well be. I've heard and read an assortment of speculation, including that he has interviewed for and is squarely in the mix for the open AD job at Syracuse. To me, until the announcement is made on the new AD, anything can happen. Today Syracuse announced its new Chancellor, the first domino to fall...an internal guy that likely worked with and knows Goodrich. My perspective, whether finalist or not, hired or not, is his candidacy makes sense if you read his Akron bio -- he was a Deputy at Syracuse and his bio shares many specific highlights about what he did there that seems to matter to all programs these days...NIL, marketing, butts in seats and on the former Chancellors leadership team. Alas, here we are, cheers @zippy5, a dedicated thread as it plays out in the weeks ahead for those whose interest in this topic may be tangential. No matter, if he stays, which according to Hilltopper sounds likely, maybe we'll hear if the 'unsubstantiated' chatter garnered him a raise/extension in the near future (hat tip to those that follow the BOT notes), maybe we'll hear who made the Fan Council, and for sure we'll continue to #maketheclimb (cue the logos and fancy fonts)!

He is now being reported as one of three finalists with the AD to be named before the start of the ACC tournament. So I’ll guess we’ll know soon enough. -
If they know they are waiting on Congress or the SCOTUS why would they feel any sense of urgency, they are smart to sit back and let it remain a free for all … when will this ever be a priority for our govt.

That’s what some of the coaches have said. Curious was he at the Swim and Dive Championships at his own pool? Did he jump in to celebrate as the previous AD did … coaches chatter about these things? Was he at the T&F championships? I genuinely don’t know the answer about his presence at either Championship but as someone said he hasn’t been as boisterous on SM lately but is retweeting a Syracuse reporter tweets about Miami OH-same reporter who recently listed him as a potential candidate for the Syracuse job, nothing on the many promises he’s made like the fan board, I hear from some in the dept it’s been eerily quiet. His name is out there as actively pursuing the job. -
Second Costco and RH (clearance or sales). I’d be really wary of a move to UA as they seem to have lost a lot of credibility and momentum since the Steph Curry split. Though maybe desperation results in a good deal?

Congrats to the T&F team!

Agree! What a naive comment from someone (OP) who either isn’t wise on basic level investing or is not in tune with what most of the country is going through right now in terms of struggles with the job market and inflation. There has been no public info on what Nate has majored in or what degree he got from Akron that I’ve seen but the average starting salary for a UA graduate is $69K before taxes. Average annual salary for a mid-level MBB player overseas is $50-150K a year, for the top players it could be between $200-300K year. ~60% of US born players overseas earn under $75K a year. You were saying?

What about travel to Cali? I’m hearing the mutual exploration/courtship between Sac St and the MAC is more reality than rumor. That doesn’t mean it will happen but there are definitely conversations being had.

Hofstra takes down Vermont in OT. Didn’t realize it was golden goal wow -
They say ‘just received’ but likely had this tee’d up along with the communication to build momentum. I’d be shocked if a letter alone led to the gift but as folks have said it’s something and a start. Did they do away with the Zips circle or whatever these fund was for large donations?

Games 5, 6 & 7- The Paradise Jam

Serious question - did it help or hurt the MAC to take UMass if basketball also struggles? -
BTW I may be in the minority but I said this last year when all the Joe rumors were swirling. Very similar this year. I absolutely agree with whoever mentioned it in the past few days .. the rumors are all being generated by Joe’s agent. Watch other rumors pop early in the search cycles for OCs in the NFL etc. I believe Joe’s options to leave for bigger and better pastures are extremely limited. I don’t believe James Franklin will look at him as a first choice or maybe second/third based on how he’s building his staff. I also think he remains comfortable from the standpoint of family life, nice house in Hudson, grandkids around - his son is off next year to play college ball and he has his routine at Akron down to where maybe he can keep a better eye on his son’s career va working his ass off as a OC for some other program with less familiarity. I could be completely wrong but this is my gut feel.
