  1. So he lied to some coaches (other than football, but not all coaches), especially football (more frequent lying or more substantial lies)? He lied to Coach Moorehead specifically? Were these all the same lies? About what exactly, at least broad strokes or a ‘for example’? I’m just fascinated with the desire by some on this board to skewer Guthrie any chance they get with a level of harshness that seems to be only matched by below the belt insults (sack of garbage, clown etc) slung at PCCC which rightly deserves all of those taunts given the actual state of their program, especially football, and our complete domination of them in MBB. I’m not saying he walked on water, none of us do. But as someone who loathed the Larry Williams tenure I just can’t put my finger on the obsessive level of dislike for one and not the other if you’re comparing ADs using the same criteria. I’ve shared my opinion and it’s mine alone. I’m not in contact with the football staff but if he lied to them that’s obviously shitty. Seems out of character with what I know, but I’m not dialed in enough to know anything close to it all. Excited to turn my attention to what this thread was supposedly about, the new AD, and putting my support behind him and as always the program above all.
  2. I would argue Guthrie moved the football program to respectability. He was also the architect behind soccer getting in the Big East (despite many unsubstantiated claims he didn’t support soccer). And while baseball isn’t trending where I thought it would in wins under Faulds, he cared and brought in a coach who cares. Softball is trending well. Lacrosse just made their first ever tournament. Genuinely curious about what you think about Larry Williams and where he ranks on your AD scale if Guthrie ranks as a joke? In my opinion, and based on the majority of comments on this board - an incredibly small subset - it’s pretty far fetched to call his overall tenure at Akron or him as a human being (if you’re saying it’s both?) a joke. I guess reading between the lines, it’s primarily because of the Arby’s logo. Also, not sure ‘he bolted for Fordham’ is the accurate take on why he’s gone. The guy signed a 4-year extension in May of last year. Doesn’t seem like someone who had an intention of bolting. The facts are the facts. Hilltopper shared details previously and the reality is - Miller was ousted and a new President came in with his own vision. Happens all the time! ‘Bamboozled’ ‘Sack of garbage’ ’Joke’ Wow! Is it really just the logo bothering you? The guy ran a clean, well managed program with no scandals or issues like what you’re seeing seep out of the walls at our favorite joke of a program down the road. I think what is obvious as you hijack a thread about the new AD to slam Guthrie yet again is he must have really hurt your feelings at some point? Regardless, I’m excited to see what our new leader can do with what is a now very solid foundation left by Guthrie.
  3. What eligibility … that’s domino seems to be the next to fall!
  4. Lacrosse seems to have built some momentum under the ‘newish’ coach. I think she’s two seasons in based on the posts in this thread.
  5. It’s official now from APs account
  6. Would love to see Dustin up for and winning some of the assistant coach awards and rising star lists handed out/ complied each year! Obviously nice for him to be under the radar, but the guy deserves his flowers.
  7. I think it would be fun for my kid
  8. Well here’s what I call a fan-friendly promotion!
  9. Well then Groce was in the mix post extension.
  10. Net net it worked out for everyone this cycle
  11. And, there it is. Per my prior post: The most interesting twist, I think if folks close to UA MBB insiders do a little digging you may learn that Sendy wasn't the only local MAC coach who used being active in the Fordham pool to put pressure on administration to get a stronger commitment for his program. Smart, and possibly even orchestrated between friends. The friends I’m referring to Groce, Wentz and Guthrie. They kept it all quiet intentionally. They aren’t going to be out touting anything that will spook the players/recruits or for other programs to feed off of like Kent. We all know Akron = strategic. Kent = well ? So the only point I would disagree on with Hilltopper is UCR was not exactly the first choice but likely was second. Groce was first before a pool was even established, discussions were had and it allowed Groce to put even more pressure on an administration with no leader in place right now after a historic season.
  12. Now it's officially in the 'poorly' state. Looks like they lost Magpayo! I will always try to be objective above anything else
  13. Good catch, corrected as I was not referring to 'you.' I don't believe they ended up with their 3rd or 4th candidate. My primary point was these searches involve a lot of smoke, that said it could very well be the case it was not their first choice. I do agree with you, no matter who they ended up with, it will be a monumental task.
  14. Actually Hilltopper posted 'not likely' and wasn't specific on Sendy 'choosing' to stay. Hilltopper may have assumed or knew Guthrie hiring Senderoff was never a sure thing. Don't believe everything you read from the Twitter trolls, these searches are far from black and white like that. Sendy and his agent played interest from Fordham as a finalist into a 6-year extension and much more. Good for them. That's what experienced agents do, intentional leaks that get results for their clients! The most interesting twist, I think if folks close to UA MBB insiders do a little digging you may learn that Sendy wasn't the only local MAC coach who used being active in the Fordham pool to put pressure on administration to get a stronger commitment for his program. Smart, and possibly even orchestrated between friends. As I've said before on this forum, despite the fact that a handful of folks on this board can't look beyond your wishful thinking and misguided belief that Guthrie is universally disliked by everyone at UA internally, donors/fans externally, and the MAC, he maintains strong relationships here. And does the search really reflect that poorly on Fordham? They've gotten more basketball buzz in the past 24-48 hours than they've had in 25 years and many from the A10 are calling the new coach a homerun hire. Sendy was part of a larger pool that centered on existing relationships with head coaches from the MAC and elsewhere - new coach worked in UC system and Columbia for example where Guthrie also has strong ties. BTW speaking of searches, how about one closer to home...are we ever going to hire a new AD? @MangoZip
  15. Mind boggling to me how difficult it has been to get this women’s soccer program going - both from the local area /interest in girl’s soccer and the success of our men’s program.
  16. Or this is why they are fighting so hard to keep Pinky. If Kent AD loses football and basketball coach in one day, he might be gone too.
  17. You definitely could have had a Pinky tshirt and gear side hustle going.
  18. I know and can appreciate the passion involved with hating our rival, but I'm genuinely curious is Senderoff truly a bad person/awful individual that warrants wanting his career to tank? Maybe Ford and Christian were in fact awful individuals, but I've heard Pinky is actually friends with both Groce and Dambrot, running in the same local coaching circles and all with mutual respect for one another? I think in terms of fandom and rivalries we have one of the best and I think most underrated nationally, but wishing someone ill will, just wondering if it is warranted by something specific?
  19. As can all his peers, some of whom are hopping all over the place with no loyalty to their own guys. MSU in that logo chart is like the P4 version of Akron.
  20. This right here from Izzo. Gem.
  21. Not specific to the MAC, but NIT related. Just a kid being honest about his experience. I know there are mixed feelings about NCAA or don’t play any post season at all, but if NIT is paying expenses etc. seems like a no brainer to participate. He talks about being able to keep playing as a team and now have the experience of being on a magical post season run even though it’s not the NCAA tourny.
