  1. +1 This is the complaint I hear most from former posters. Fair enough. All three main moderators have now commented on this subject in just this one thread. I think it deserves discussion in Board Comments, Suggestions & Technical Support, so I've started a new thread: New Thread
  2. One of ZN.o's three main moderators blamed one forum member's "constant negative posts" for causing another forum member to stop posting on ZN.o. The second of ZN.o's three main moderators says it doesn't make sense for forum members "to continually editorialize every decision or comment by other posters." The third of ZN.o's three main moderators agrees with #2, and says "this is the complaint I hear most from former posters." So what the heck is going on with ZN.o? I absolutely love having a place to discuss Zips sports with a bunch of great people, and I greatly appreciate the efforts of everyone on the ZN.o staff who helps make this happen. I try to be a good citizen and abide by the rules as best I understand them. I just don't get some of the things that go on here. I see some forum members being chastised for what look to me to be sincere attempts to help raise the level of discussion, and I see other people get away with negative drive-by sniping at others. There's at the very least a strong appearance of favoritism at work here that some forum members are allowed to get away with stuff because the moderators agree with the positions of those forum members, and others are on the crap list because they regularly post dissenting opinions. Some of this may be more perceived than valid. But if it's all just perception, then at the very least those forum members should have the opportunity to hold an honest, civil discussion with the moderators to clear the air. ZN.o would be a better place for everyone if everyone believed they were being treated fairly and equitably. I know I'm not the only one who believes this because I've seen it mentioned in public posts and private PMs. Could we please have a calm, rational discussion here without people pointing fingers and throwing insults at each other? Could everyone making a post in this thread please try to be constructive and think twice before hitting the Post button?
  3. I have no direct experience with college football locker room dynamics. However, I do have 35 years of experience with business team dynamics, from small companies to major corporations, where people work in teams to produce winning results. I can tell you that there is no definitive answer to cover all situations of bringing in new blood to improve team results. Sometimes it upsets team chemistry and produces negative results. Sometimes it reinvigorates the team and produces winning results. It depends on the people and how the situation is handled.
  4. Coming out with a different look for the NCAA tournament would sure mix up all those who've scouted the Zips' previous alignments. The main question would be whether or not the Zips could introduce a new alignment with enough proficiency to make it work considering the lack of game experience with that alignment.
  5. I'm pretty sure from all I've heard that McQueary believes that talking with PSU police is the equivalent of talking with city, county or state police. I'm guessing that McQueary's claim that he did something to stop the attack before he left the shower area will turn out to be something like making a noise or something to cause Sandusky to stop what he was doing. There was apparently nothing in the PSU police report to indicate that McQueary physically stepped in and stopped it. Good development in the last hour on the legal front: State College district judge Leslie Dutchcot has been replaced by an out-of-county magisterial senior district judge after it was revealed that Dutchcot had benefited from a fundraiser organized by an official with The Second Mile, the children's charity started by Sandusky. One Pennsylvania attorney had commented to Deadspin that he had never had a client who was charged with those counts released on unsecured bail, and that because the charges carry such heavy penalties, monetary bail is always required as a way to prevent people from skipping out on the case. Report: Jerry Sandusky's charity official raised money for district judge who set his bail Pa. Criminal Attorney On Sandusky Judge: "I Have Never Had A Client Who Was Charged With Those Counts Released On Unsecured Bail" New Judge Named To Handle Penn State Scandal Case
  6. I'm with you on the CSU game. But we should probably start another thread for that discussion. We already had a big discussion about watering holes around CSU here.
  7. akzipper, I think I've identified your problem. You are paying attention to unreliable sources.
  8. Horizon League Network Webcast Schedule
  9. Unbelievable. National Weather Service is now predicting a slight chance of snow showers on Thursday and Thursday evening, a high of 37 and winds up to 20 mph. Wind chill will be well below freezing at game time. This is not a game-stopper, but it's sure not going to be comfy. Hope the Zips are better cold weather performers than NU.
  10. That's pretty special to see Zeke projected as a first round NBA draft pick. I'm guessing it assumes that he keeps developing at the same rate in his junior and senior years as he did in his freshman and sophomore seasons. Go Zeke!
  11. I understand that some people turn other people off. It's human nature. But it makes absolutely no sense for someone to stop posting on a forum they otherwise enjoy for the sole reason that they don't happen to like the posts of one or two other people. That's what the Manage Ignored Users Option is for. You don't like anything someone posts? Add that person to your Ignored Users list, that person disappears for you and you can enjoy the forum as if that person never existed. I think some people just throw out easy excuses to explain why they don't post on forums.
  12. @zip37, sorry you can't make it. We will drink a toast to your health in WV. @The Hip Zip, as Doug said, Erin can take your credit card info over the phone.
  13. A comparison of the CSU and Zips SOS would be a legitimate part of the overall pre-game discussion on the eve of the game. I certainly wouldn't obsess over it, and don't have much interest right now. Too many other games between now and then.
  14. I want WVU to be undefeated when the Zips play them. This is not one of Huggins' stronger teams, as their current low national ranking attests. I'd like to see them at least considered as strong as Mississippi State by the time the Zips play them. Plus it's always easier to cheer against Can't.
  15. Based on recent performances, Zips lose. Based on playing up to their full potential, Zips win.
  16. I care about CSU because the Zips are going to be playing them and CSU is rated higher. Along with Can't, they represent the Zips' biggest mid-major rivals in this area.
  17. @GP1, I was one of the few hardcore Zips fans who did go to some of the team's open practices. There was no charge, but I wouldn't have felt bad about paying admission if required. I'm a basketball junkie. I like to watch good players, period. The Zips have a lot of good players this season who are fun to watch regardless of the level of competition they're going up against. I understand how more casual basketball fans might pass on a lower level game. Remember that this game was part of the 2K Sports Classic that brings together high majors, mid majors and lower division teams. Hiram is not even the lowest level team in the tournament. Indiana-Kokomo, which plays Valparaiso and UDC, is in its first season of basketball. They hope to be accepted into the NAIA next season, but aren't in any division this season. So the Zips home game against Hiram was part of the package that allowed the Zips to meet and beat Mississippi State on national television. I'd call that a good tradeoff even if some casual Zips basketball fans didn't think the Hiram game was worth attending.
  18. @The Hip Zip, welcome back. I wondered where you were for the last six months. Guess you go into hibernation during the basketball off-season. I've missed your contributions here. I'm waiting for you to show up on the Bus Trip to the West Virginia Game thread and let us know you will be joining us.
  19. Some of the excerpts from Jerry Sandusky's biography are just plain eerie. I'd like to see a good psychiatrist's analysis of this one: After founding his charity, one night Sandusky was talking to two Second Mile boys who had rebelled against their foster parents. The foster father "grabbed me around the back of my shoulders and he made me do something when I didn't want to do it," one boy told Sandusky. "Do you ever grab your kids like that?" " 'No, I don't grab my kids like that,' " Sandusky answered. " 'I grab them like this.' With that, I put my hands gently around their throat. "I could tell they were totally confused," Sandusky wrote. "Both boys had a scared look in their eyes." Jerry Sandusky's autobiography 'Touched' contains passages that now make the reader cringe
  20. Nah, I'd pay to watch this Zips team scrimmage.
  21. @The Hip Zip, I thought you were kidding about that game time. But I see that the Can't-West Virginia is, indeed, scheduled to be telecast by ESPN Tuesday morning. The scheduled time, by the way, is 10:00 a.m. EST, not 8:00. The game is part of ESPN's fourth annual College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon in which the network is broadcasting 25 straight hours of college basketball. Check out this crazy schedule.
  22. @GP1, I'm relieved to hear there was a real reason to miss the Zips basketball game other than a refusal to attend any "rent-a-win games." What with your unusual aversion to anything involving a "building process," my next question was going to be whether you avoided stepping on lines and cracks while walking down the sidewalk. But it's clear to me now that you're more normal than what some (but not all) of your posts may suggest.
  23. With all due respect to Budweiser, Keener'92 is the true King of Beers.
  24. National Weather Service is now reporting a very slight chance of a few snow flurries in Akron on Wednesday night. If it falls, it would not stick as the ground is too warm and the high Thursday is expected to be around 40. But it is a little spooky to see any chance of snow pop up the week Northwestern is heading this way.
  25. @GP1, was this your only chance of the season to actually see the Zips play live, or will you be able to catch one of their other games?
