Let's Hope Zeke Marshall Isn't a Football Fan
ziprowdy replied to Z.I.P.'s topic in Akron Zips Football
to the booster member who is on this thread i have a question for you...you say you want better for the team and things...you said you want better coaching and a winning culture, and believe me i want that too...i love the zips and the school, and i am a huge sports fan...well i should say i lovED the zips...there have been some recent events that have made me not love the zips so much, but i am still a fan...i want to know how you feel about CJ remaining on scholarship after all that has happened...i mean you are a contributing member to this program, how does it make you feel?...ill tell you how i feel about it...im pissed about it...as a student i have to work my ass off to keep what little money i get from the university...its a long story but i planned on going elsewhere and it didnt work out, so i get like $500 a YEAR from this school...i have to bust my ass to keep it, and im not arrogant but i think i deserve more...now CJ steals from people, gets dismissed from the team and yet he gets to keep his scholarship which i guarantee is more than $500 a year...this is complete BULL SHIT! -
Jacquemain Update & a Coach Is Suspended w/Pay
ziprowdy replied to psc2009's topic in Akron Zips Football
somebody tell me why in the HELL!!!!!!!!!! CJ deserves to remain on scholarship...because he clearly does not AT ALL deserve to be getting money from this university...this is BULL SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
lets talk about DCI for a moment shall we...first of all they can choose from players all around the country...top notch players all around the country, even from other countries...the band here has local high schools and the random person from out of state...DCI sounds loud because they are crazy in tune, let's make that very clear...its not just that they are blowing their brains out, they are perfectly in tune across the group...it may appear they are playing louder because all of their instruments are BELL FRONT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...the marching euphoniums are bell front, the contras are bell front, and the baritones are bell front...which means the sound is going where???...at the crowd yes thank you very much...what does Akron's band have???...upright euphoniums, and sousaphones...which yes are pretty much bell front...but yes let's make all of our woodwind players switch over to brass instruments...that would be awesome...pretty sure the band would be worse than it is now
-
bandzip gets a standing ovation, and that post was fantastic...i was rolling on the floor laughing...the fact is more people have told the director and members of the band that they were fantastic and great...alumni and donors have told Mr. Robert D. Jorgensen that they loved the band...so i would have to say let's go with what those people are saying and not the people on here
-
To those of you who said the band is "lacking energy" or "needs more energy", I want you to tell me what you mean by that. You throw this word "energy" around to make it seem to everyone else that you know what you are talking about. I don't just mean a general sense either, I want a definition. Also to the one who gave suggestions to make the band better, you have no clue what you are talking about. First of all, a "horn hit" doesn't exist so that is of no help. That's alright though, I didn't expect you to know anything. Second of all, picking the feet up higher is not a solution either. A person's feet can only go so high. Now if you mean that their marching needs improvement, then yes you are right and I am pretty sure they know that as well. But unfortunately that was not what you are talking about...surprise surprise. Third of all, playing louder is again not a solution. Maybe a solution for you is thinking harder, but let's not push your boundaries. Even though this is college Music Education is taking place. What? Education in band? It's alright, I know you know nothing about education. Marching Band should be a Concert Band with uniforms that moves. The sounds coming from the ensemble should be of that nature. A Concert Band does not blast its brains out, nor should a Marching Band. Playing as an ensemble, and playing in tune are the solutions to that problem. The education aspect of a Marching Band at any level should not be sacrificed for Joe Blow, who was probably drunk, in the stands who knows nothing about Marching Band, or Music Education. If you want to hear a band play loud go see a Hudson football game and listen to the band since you think high school bands are better than Ohio's Pride. If you think we should sound like Hudson then that is exactly why your opinions mean nothing. If you want it to be like the 90's, then watch the videos over and over again. It is not the 90's, this is 2009 and let's focus on the band this year. You people want the band to appeal to the crowd more, and the fact is they already appeal to the crowd. In my opinion they shouldn't appeal to the crowd at all because you people are clueless. The director wrote music to the cheers the Rowdies do to appeal to the crowd. I bet you want us to play some Kanye West, or Eminem or something along those lines. First of all most of the "music" nowadays is not music because there is no melody. It is a form of art and expression and that is it. But I digress. Clearly all of you not in the band have given some great suggestions, and you will see a new band come next game. The next game there will be suggestion boxes all over the stadium where your timeless thoughts will be read and given to Hellen Waite. Or you can go to Hellen Waite to give your suggestions in person. When the time comes that you know what you are talking about, which will be never, then we should have this conversation again. Here is a suggestion: to whoever was throwing things at the band, should stop and get a life or drink less. If it was a fan from the opposition thank you loyal Zips fans for standing up for the band. You people want the band to do things for you, but until you do something for the band your suggestions mean nothing. Maybe you should stand up for the band instead of criticizing something you know nothing about. Oh and the next time you go to see Can't State's band you should stay there and be a waste of space on their campus, not ours.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...so 31-10 at HALFTIME...HALFTIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...are you kidding me...cant even had a 10 second violation called against one of their dumbass guards...a 10 second violation...i wonder when the last time one of those was called in an NCAA tournament...those fuckers...UNLV has caused 15 turnovers...and are ahead by 21 points...all you ppl who said it would be good for the MAC if cant made it to the tourny, might wanna rethink that...theyre getting blown out...how is this helping us at all...granted it is halftime, and cant could come back...but i highly doubt it...now enough about those fuckers...i hope theyre watching the game and feeling like shit, those idiots...anyway akron...scary game the other night...the rebounding definitely improved some...free throws need to be drastically changed if we want a chance at winning on saturday
-
man linhart needs to have a game like that tomrrow and the next day and the next...once he got settled he had a lockdown on defense...guarding the passing lane with authority...gettin steals, creating turnovers, crazy-ass awesome moves on the baseline to get the layup...and nailing threes...linhart stepped it up...all the zips did...this was a good game today...needs to carry over

What does it say about Akron Basketball if....
ziprowdy replied to Big Zip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
its good to see CSU's program starting to climb its way back...they've had a string of bad coaches ever since mackey screwed up probably the best thing they had going there...they may have gotten smoked...but they beat the same team earlier in the season...a top 25 team...thats all i am saying about that...akron better have a fire under their butts, and they better be ready for this tourny...GO ZIPS!!!! -
i agree we need to pressure mr. fisher...but not just him the whole team...man when we had the full court press at the end goin, it was workin pretty much lights out...that last minute and a half we had a fire under our butts...and with good reason...a couple things id like to see if we face Can't State in the mac tourny...go to the full court press early...like the first couple possessions...and just scare the shit out of them...and be agressive right from the get-go...be agressive starting today...yes i know i said today...and then go away from it for a lil bit...and then if possible like the last 10 minutes full-court press every possession...these are college kids, im sure the endurance is not an issue...but w/e the case use the full-court more often...and man idk dude, i think mike bardo just needs to get pissed off at something...idk...he seems timid on the court...if he can get pissed/really really angry at the world or something, we could have something good goin...but yeah more full-court press, and more slashing and penetration from...well somebody...somebody should realize thats what we need to and do it
-
someone said in an earlier post to stop whining about the officiating because it just always horrible and we should deal with it...someone, may have been the same person, said that unless we have proof that there was a a fix in the officiating to shut up...something along those lines...well A) nobody said anything about a fix with the reffs before that person did...however...with the NBA scandal if i remember correctly it was a couple officials...but in any one game there was only one or possibly two crooked officials on the floor during the games that were fixed...heres my thought on the possibility...we know he officials are downright awful...all of them...the inconsistency, missing blatant travel calls, etc...if there was a fix...how would it be noticed???...i mean theyre horrible to begin with...if the idea is for them to screw us, which they usually always do at some point of a game...how would we be able to tell the difference???...i mean i have no proof on the situation, and i highly doubt there was any sort of a fix...now it wouldnt surprise me if it did...i mean people nowadays will do anything for the benefit of themselves, they dont give a shit what they have to do to better themselves...and plus if there was a a fix...obviously its none o our decisions to investigate into this or something...i seriously think after this season of college basketball that SOMEONE in the MAC office needs to look into what exactly is going on...i dont think that is out of the question...and for all of you who say stop rippin on the reffs, i say again...if the players and coaches are allowed to come under scrutiny, then the reffs are allowed to come under scrutiny as well
-
if a cant fan yelling go Can't State is disrespectful...which i totally believe it is...in my personal opinion, i think it is disrespectful when some yell home of the zips...heres why...because tonight i noticed that once its yelled the eintire place went nuts...but yet the group performing the anthem on the floor was not done singing yet...as a musician, if i were out there playing my trumpet with a group...and we got to the end and "home of the zips" is yelled but im still out there playing...thats disrespectful...thats just from a performing standpoint...the choir got drowned out during their little tag to the end of the anthem...i could see mouths movin, but couldnt hear anything...and they sounded good too...thats all im sayin about that...im not tryin to provoke an angry argument, just what i observed...as far as the game...still cant believe what i saw...i still want it to be a dream...im still waiting for the inbounds after woods 3 to be guarded better, or a brick on the winning 3 for Can't State
-
yeah agreed uakronkid...the end to last season...well it sucked...and yeah it is hard to get into a game when its a blowout...and the lack of interest and freshman...all good points...i do think itll be crazy today/tonight
-
ok so the whole thw rowdies dont clap or chant or w/e...this is my 3rd year here at UA and 3rd yr in the rowdies...and while it sucks to admit it, the whole cheering thing is not as good as it used to be...i distinctly remember games this season where we would stand there and not clap or chant for one or two possessions...which is unacceptable...it used to be as soon as the ball was in bounded we were cheering and sometimes before that...the ongoing problem that we have and that we have had is that the cheering is not sustained throughout the whole possession...we usually die out around 15 seconds left on the shot clock...now today, im sure the cheering will be a lot better, and whatnot obviously...b/c its the Can't State-akron game...thats just my opinion and observations
-
maybe we should just not have reffs anymore, and just let the teams play the whole game...clearly this ref thing is becoming more controversial since the nba ref problem that happened...and rightly so...if a coach can come under scrutiny for his/her performance...a referee justifiably so should come under scrutiny for their performance as well...more so now the nba reffs should come under heavy scrutiny after what happened there...i mean did anyone see the lovely play by chauncey billups earlier this season...it was cool...he came off a high screen outside the 3 point line...caught a pass, dribbled once, then took 4 steps...and "nailed" about a 25-30 footer...thats great...the game sure has come far from it used to be...see that to me is bull shit...dont care what your name is, what your name is, who your married to, or who ya fucked last week...now obviously nothing of this magnitude happens in the ncaa...however, if things continue over the years as they have been the past couple decades...it could get ugly...i mean human error is one thing...the reffs ARE human they will make some mistakes...but why does it always seem fishy as im watching a game in the arena...sometimes things dont add up...so i think if were gonna rip the players apart and the coaches...we should be able to rip the reffs apart...some of us get fed up with hearing about how the reffs were bad and had a negative impact on the game...the reffs arent exempt from scrutiny...they play a big part in the game
-
i never said we lost b/c of the free throws...we had no inside game, and we didnt shoot that great...free throws would have helped us in the closing seconds...if we would have made 3 more, we could have held the ball for the final shot and possibly could have gone inside with it to get a bucket to send it to overtime...thanks for putting the stat up about those teams and their free throw %...frankly i dont care...granted 70% may be "not bad"...i mean C's get degrees...but what if you only had 70% of a car, or if only 70% of your car worked...not too good...im not that old, im only 20...when i was growing up, i was taught free throws are very important...probably the most important shot...youre alone...nobody guarding you...no reason why you should miss them...thats changed for some reason...teams stress the 3 pointer now more than anything...if you think im wrong, watch our guys during their warmup...i think all but 2 guys shoot 3's at some point during their warmup...maybe one handful shoot free throws, and they only shoot a couple...idk...you all have your opinions, and i have mine...you cant tell me i dont have a valid point...im stickin with what i said earlier...free throws win ball games
-
well lemme start off by saying i'm a little disappointed in some of the posters...a lot of you are bringing up valid points as always...some of you guys really know your stuff, but here's what gets me...nobody on this thread has really addressed the reason why we lost the game...because we actually could have tied the game and sent it to overtime...(don't know about other threads involving the game cause i havent read them all)...THE MOST IMPORTANT STAT OF THE WHOLE GAME!!...Free throw attempts/Free throws made.......12-17=70.6%...percentage not important...but those 5 points are...time...after time...after time...we kill ourselves and shoot ourselves in the foot from the foul line...if we would have had those extra 5 points and the game went to overtime...at least we had given ourselves a shot...drag it outlonger, maybe we coulda pulled it out...even if we didnt get all 5...if we would have got 3 more, we would have been down by 2 and not been forced to throw up a wild 3...i don't care what anyone says about "defense wins ballgames"...or "offense wins ballgames"...my thought has always been, and today proved my point more to me...FREE THROWS WIN BALLGAMES...for the smart ones technically we would have been tied...but it would have been interesting to see that game go to overtime...now i know we have been slightly better from the foul line, but not good enough...congrats to J-Wood and Dials who proved it actually is possible for a college basketball player to make all of their free throw attempts in a game...5-5 and 4-4 respectively...i agree with the kid that started the thread...we dont have an offense...if we do and there is a name for it or something, tell me...im intrigued...id like to know what is going on out there, cause it doesnt look like much...id like to watch one of our practices and just see what goes on...im curious to know if they practice foul shots...they have become probably the most neglected shot nowadays...they may not be worth 3 points, but cutting into a lead without the clock running is always good...on one other note it was good to see J-Wood back in the game today he's one tough guy...personally from watching him today it looks like he tries to do too much when he's down below...i know he was being double teamed a lot...but i think with all the faking and pivoting he does sometimes, maybe he jukes himself out...i mean he can really throw the defender for a loop sometimes, but maybe try to keep it more simple...and maybe take it stronger...i know he likes those floaters, but maybe take stronger...idk just observations

apparently there is truth to these crazy happenings in good ol oxford....this from a poster on the conversation board for the game from espn.com.........."I won't speak of the huge win this is for Akron -- I just wanted to share a lovely story about classy Redhawk basketball. When the game ended, the Miami trainer ran down the tunnel after the officials and had to be physically restrained by police officers. The assistant head coach for Miami then went after a Plain Dealer sports writer, shouting at him during timeouts, and went in his face after the game and had to be restrained. LOL I'm not making this up. How EMBARRASSING." i would definitely like to know more about the restraining and such, b/c its down rght crazy...good win tonight/yesterday...gotta love karma...ced missed the free throws last yr in the final seconds...but nails them this year...at their place...gotta love irony

man z-pouch--or something like that...sorry man if i messed up your profile name...--he said exactly what i was freakin yelling at them for the entire 2nd half...drive the damn ball to the basket...i could not believe some of the crap i was seeing...granted in the first half when we drove we didnt exactly score a lot of the time...we missed some easy close ones, quade was unable to finish...however, thats all im conceeding on this...towards the end of the first half and the second half when we drove and took the ball to the hoop, we got points...not driving halfway or 3/4 of the way and pulling up and shooting...not driving halfway and kicking out for a 3 pointer...when our GUARDS DROVE THE LANE AND TOOK IT TO THE HOLE...imagine that, a guard driving the lane instead of just throwing up 3's...we got points...and then brett mcknight sure understood what the heck was going on there on offense and what needed to be done for a couple possessions...HE TOOK THE DAMN BALL TO THE HOLE...then mcnees one or two times, TOOK THE BALL ALL THE WAY TO THE BASKET and scored...however, in the 2nd half this was a commonality----drive the lane and score on possession...ON THE VERY NEXT POSSESSION...or sometimes the one after that...wed come down the court and do nothing for like 15, 20, 25 seconds...pass it around a lil and then put up a 3-pointer...and low and behold missed it...now wed did make 8 3's the whole game, i know b/c i put the 3-point signs up in the rowdies section...i know SOMETIMES we can shoot pretty well from behind the arc...BUT WHEN DRIVING THE LANE IS GETTING US POINTS...AND 3'S ARENT...its easy to see what the game plan should have for the 2nd half...maybe the last part of the 1st if the coaches would have seen that...in the 2nd half when we drove the full way strong, we were able to finish and get points on the board...thats what its about...not about shooting 3's to try and look good...shoot 3's every once in a while, when you have a hot hand...nobody had a hot hand from behind the arc...i wouldnt call 8 3's "hot" at all...some of you may say "well the game nowadays pretty much requires 3-point shooting because teams can rack up a score pretty quickly".....if its not adding to the score, its hurting the team...last night the 3-point catastrophe hurt the team...idk if its that kd doesnt like to drive the lane, but last night shouldve opened up his eyes...wood had nothing to do with it, becasue before he was hurt we werent really posting him THAT MUCH...now granted we were posting him...and he did score...but not enough...why cant the ball go inside every possession, or close to it...i know they cant always get inside position...then the guards or forwards need to drive...i mean its a simple concept...and all you who want them to take outside shots, DRIVING THE LANE HELPS THAT...if we actually establish an inside game...which ill admit we didnt the other night--we didnt establish anything except that the team looked lost on the floor...if we establish an actual inside game...not posting up 15 feet from the basket and doing some cutsie jump hook piece of crap...they need to throw their weight around...theyre big guys most...our big guys are big...throw their weight around, get some position closer to the basket drive to the hole...power it in there...obviously not going crazy and fouling...but seriously...3-point shooting is not our game...outside shooting could be helped by penetration...true penetration...like ive said, not driving to the foul line and stopping...ALL...THE...WAY...TO THE BASKET...i realized the other night, that we really have no semblance of an offense...i mean i see them calling plays and all...but sometimes the guys are confused what to do when dials calls a play...not good
-
just an observation...goddard usually only gets put in the game when its a blowout...as far as ive noticed over the past 3 years, maybe he's played in a game winning situation...if he has forgive me...but yeah maybe coach doesnt trust him in an important game winning situation...as far as kd having beef him....maybe something(s) happened at practice that we are unaware of, maybe its grades...could be any number of things...not really sure what the story is there...but i did notice one thing now that this is being brought up...he did not look happy when he put goddard in during the home game against BGSU...once the rowdies started chanting our goddard chant...he paced for a lil while...and then unconvincingly and unhappily pointed at goddard to check in...i do remember that, so things could be ugly and we dont know about it
-
oh wait hold on hold on haha...Captain Kangaroo...were you the guy directly in front of our whistling buddy, and turned around and yelled at him like towards the end of the 2nd half????...because that was funny...cause he kept whistling...so obviously we both agree that cant was making their foul shots, so according to you the whistling did nothing...well were you yelling and making noise when they were shooting???...because if you were, i think we all can infer that did nothing either...so by your reasoning, nobody who was a zip last night should have made any noise whatsoever after a while when cant had foul shots because it wasnt doing anything...if you werent making any noise or making any hand gestures, or even saying anything underneath your breath, then touche...here's a suggestion for ya...if you dont like it and it bothers you....dont come to the games anymore...b/c it seems that you and one or 2 other people are the only that had a problem...the person on his left (HI!), and the person on his right didnt complain...granted i had an earplug at the game, theres bene games and occasions where i havent, and ive lived...and i can still hear out of both my ears...also funny how you attack one of the louder rowdies, but didnt attack any of the rowdies who werent as loud and maybe who stopped cheering after a while on offense or defense...why cant we cheer ALL OF US for the full 35 second shot clock on both offense and defense?
-
I know that we have usernames or w/e to keep our identities secret or w/e...but zip alumn would you happen to be rick mcfadden?...just curious

Not suprised, but Akron GETTING ABUSED!!!
ziprowdy replied to Zip90's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
We tried to play our best throughout it, but the refs but a bit of a damper on it. Let's look at the possible longterm effects of multiple games like last night....where the reffs "let them play" and it becomes very physical. These guys' bodies are taking a beating, especially last night. Linhart got dropped a couple times, I remember once was pretty bad. Ced got dropped once or twice, and then with the MAC Tournament last yr, Linhart took a bashing. This isn't the NFL where there's like a week in between games, most often there is a game 2/3 days later. If the reffs continue to "let them play" we could start seeing some major injuries. I know it would take a lot, but one's body can't take that much on multiple occasions, without enough time to heal in between. Things could start to get real ugly over the next couple seasons. -
Let's fight about something other than the fight
ziprowdy replied to Marty McFly's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
You guys bring up some really good points...props to you all who see these things and thats great. Sealing off a cutter, helping on the weakside, getting help on the ballside...these things are a lot easier said than done. College is a learning for these guys, and for everyone...thats why we're here. The guys on the floor are there for a reason, and we are in the stands for a reason. Some of you might get pissed at that statement, but it's true and if you can prove me wrong...I will bow before you, and then ask why you dont play college basketball. I have a ton of respect for those guys, because while I love basketball, I'm not at their level. So I'm not sayin don't notice, or don't criticize...I can't stop you from doin that, but just keep in mind some things, and try and look at it from their side of it. (This is a peaceful post, I'm not trying to diss anyone or start anything.) -
Captain Kangaroo...I have a slight problem with your one post about the individual who whistles all the time. If it's annoying you, what do you think it's doing to the players and the rest of the people. Isn't it our job to be loud and obnoxious when they're shooting free throws to distract them...by any means possible. Yes it's annoying...get over it. It was the freaking Can't GAME...OUR BIGGEST RIVALS...and we should not be loud and obnoxious in a nonviolent way. He wasn't swearing, making threats, or flippin the bird...and I know this for a fact because I stood next to him at the game. Granted I had an earplug in my one ear, but all it takes is a finger in your ear and it's fine. I mean did you notice whenever he was whistling all the students looking up...thinkin WTF???. Exactly. While you may argue that it did nothing most of the time because they made their foul shots. To that I say they probably practice foul shots more than we do. I said probably...I don't know for sure, I'm just goin off our production from the line...minus Dials. Personally I think it's awesome that he does it...I certainly can't whistle like that and there arent many who can. So why not. It's better than throwin f bombs, makin threats, or fippin the bird. Plus he has a lot of Akron pride. More than most of us, and probably the same amount as Willy. I hate to give his identity away but he is a member of Blue and Gold Brass...the pep band; and he's also the Drum Major for Ohio's Pride. So he has a lot of spirit and pride in a good way.
-
Well it was something alright. A couple things I found funny...1) Cant's coach yelled at the students cause theyre dumbshits...see even he knows all the fucktards go to Can't State...2) Quade owned some fan haha...may not be by funny to others, but not much else to go on tonight. Truth of the matter is, I feel for McNees. He had that one game where he went 6-6 behind the arc, and after that game our expectations of his play went higher. Which is understandable, even I expected him to perform more after that, figured maybe that was his coming-out-of-the-shell game. But the truth, he's still young, and for him to be needed to step up in a big game like this....that's tough. His game probably isn't at that level. I'm not dissing ya Steve I have nothing but love for all the Zips, but he's still kind of a young kid. It's become apparent that from night to night we never know who is gonna step up, it's always someone different. While that's exciting, it's not good. It's almost like we depend on it. When Dials isn't on, someone else needs to step up...when J-Wood isn't on then were fucked. We don't have that somebody that we can count on yet night to night. Now don't get me wrong, a lot of guys stepped up the first half, but the second half was the like the first half of another game. We had to refind what worked, partly because those schmucks made adjustments. It's tough to watch, because we expect a lot out of these guys, but a lot of it is some just don't have that instinct yet, or the mindset of "shake it off, forget it, and move on". When we self destructed a little in the second half, we couldn't get calm and gain composure, some instinctively freaked out a little. Minus Dials trying to calm people down, some of the others were at a loss of what to do now. I want so much out of them, but as I recall on the events I remind myself theyre still young and learning. Now onto other parts of the game...WHAT IN THE HELL WERE THOSE REFFS DOING?!?!?!?! Dude there were better reffs when I played city league basketball as a kid. I mean our guys were getting mauled, we applied the same pressure and then we got called. Blamings the reffs is controversial, but after what happened with the NBA stuff you can't rule out college anymore either...we have no clue if that shit goes on in college. But i do know what I saw, which was a bunch of shit. Lastly, that assistant coach...tall guy with glasses...I like him he went out there after the fight and was talking to reff...obviously couldnt hera him but it looked like "Hey what the fuck man"...hes cool
