  1. C'mon, LeBron James arena ...
  2. I missed 9 but there is another section where you can do division I basketball conferences, by school name and nickname. I did the MAC just to see how well known the Zips are (it gives you statistics after you play the game). The Zips are 4th in school names (all three directional Michigans were above us) and first by far in Nickname (even above several other school names). Don't think it means much but at least someone knows us.
  3. Keep this up and you're likely to get a Stern warning from the other moderators.
  4. If we get them both, we should change our name to Aakron for those years.
  5. Guess I can't cheer for Akron since I never went there. And no "Joe Akron" can cheer for the Zips because they have no connection besides living in the city. What a ridiculous argument. Cross me off too fellas .. never took a class at the U. Sucks I'm not welcome. Hold it - weren't you just named basketball fan of the year? (Congrats by the way). You better get that registration together in a hurry before you get banned from the games. Look guys, I get the point some of you are trying to make. For a long time OSU was the only major program in the entire state. I remember it being fun listening to the radio in my dads old truck when I was a kid when Archie Griffin and Cornelious Greene and Pete Johnson were playing. That was back when Akron was still a Division II school, so people who have been around long enough still remember the era when that was the case. I think it's great that Akron is developing a more passionate fan base but a little historical perspective can sometimes make you view things in a different light. One of the best things about Akron athletics even at this point in time is getting in on the "ground floor". Its fun to root for a school that has some really good things going for it, whether it is your alma mater or not. And like it or not, one perception of a school is is public sports profile. As an example, I guarantee you that applications to attend Butler will go up next year. I get good comments almost every time I wear Zips gear anywhere I am in the country. I don't care in the least what happens at any other school (well maybe Can't if it's bad) unless it directly impacts the Zips.
  6. Taylor Miller, to whom this links refers, signed with Toledo. While none of us is too surprised by Howards decision, I am OK with a couple of high-risk, high-reward, type players a year (Devoe Torrence, Erick Howard, David Harvey). I know none has panned out as we'd like so far, but if you have a chance at a high level talent, you go for it as long as those players don't dominate your roster. Also, if they leave, it gives you an open slot to grab someone who may have slipped through the cracks up to this point. I try not to take it personally when these kinds of situations occur, after all I'm sure the kid doesn't care about what decisions I make.
  7. Only five MAC players were drafted over the entire 7 rounds, none higher than the third round. I think that tells you a little that this was a down year in the MAC. The biggest surprise to me was that no one took a chance on Freddie Barnes out of BGSU. He'll hook on somewhere as an UFA, and I'll bet he sticks with some team. Pretty tough to set an NCAA record, even out of the MAC, and not have some talent backing it up.
  8. Philip Michael Thomas - I win. I'd like a basketball player named Lebron James or Micheal Jordan.
  9. I don't like it - I don't see how it improves anything and just is going to sneak a few more low level BCS teams in. Joe Lunardi'sfirst four that didn't make it (even though he wasn't exactly right in who did) were Arizona State, Mississippi State , Illinois and Florida. So three out of those four make it and get a little bit higher seed. That means that effectively all of the current 16 and 15 seeds will end up in play in games. With Ohio beiung a 14 this year that puts the MAC dangerously close to being in that tier. Don't see this as being good for the Zips. While I'm glad they didn't go to 96, this is just the first step in that direction.
  10. So I'm assuming this thread is now moot. I liked Steve, I got to talk with him on the phone for a bit once when he called to thank Z-Fund donors. Wished he would have gotrten more of a chance to play but I hope he does well wherever he ends up. Does anyone know where any of our transfers ended up yet?
  11. i got pics on my phone but i can't figure out how to get them from my phone to the internet... Most phones will allow you to send a picture message to an alphabetic destination instead of just numeric. So instead of typing a phone number to send a message, try typing in your email address and then hitting send.
  12. Yep, they got smoked, 7-1. I want the Zips to be the first MAC school to win a national championship anyway.
  13. I think it works in quite well with the architectural deisgn of the stadium.
  14. MAC just signed on with the WAC to a four year deal with the Humanitarian Bowl. Blue Turf in Winter
  15. Yeah, well if Chuck the Chest ever gets a head coaching job again you know he'll continue to hold this against us.
  16. So they mention a kid who has a scholarship offer from the Zips, yet completely neglect to mention that another has a scholarship commitment from the Zips. Irresponsible journalism! 9. Scott County The Cardinals lose Division I prospects Chad Jackson, Dakotah Euton and Ge-Lawn Guyn but coach Billy Hicks returns juniors-to-be Tamron Manning and Isaiah Ivey, who are two of the state's top players in the class of 2012.
  17. It could be a Zoo of MAC mascots. We could have a kangaroo, bull, bobcat (Or a large housecat), an eagle/hawk (paint one half orange&brown, the other Blue & maze, the ass red, and the turds green), and a sled dog. The remainder of the animals can be found living free in the general vicinity campus. The zoo keeper can dress as a Chippewa. It would be like the ESPN commercials. Not bad but the turds should be painted blue and yellow instead of green.
  18. Unless this was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, the "New Area for Development" you have listed is partly on top of Infocision Stadium. An arena suspended above the Stadium would be pretty cool though, and that would definitely qualify as on campus.
  19. We can't win a home CBI game against Wisconsin Green Bay. We have a long way to go. Yes, but W-GB was only six RPI slots worse than us. If you take our RPI and divide by the conference standard deviation and multiply by the cross-coefficient constant of statistical relevancy we actually did beat them. Sorry Dave. I'd be quite happy to be in a middling conference and playing for the National Championship. It obviously can be done. I wonder what that ratio of people rooting for Butler vs. Duke is? 5-1/10-1/100-1? Go Jimmy Chitwood!
  20. Not suggesting we need one, but more dangerous than a live Longhorn Steer (Texas), Buffalo (Colorado) or Tiger (LSU)? If there was a real call for it, it could be done.
  21. Is his number 4? Or maybe he just enjoys being a four seed.
  22. That link came up dry (has the word f.l.a.s.h in it) but for anyone who never saw it, its worth a read. Here is an easier link: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/art...x.htm?eref=sihp Best part of the article was the sub head-line: He's a pitcher, part yogi and part recluse. Impressively liberated from our opulent life-style, Sidd's deciding about yoga— Look at the first letter of each word.
  23. I hope his family is/will be well cared for, but on a selfish note, I do hope he returns for another season. It's good for the MAC. If you're going to be selfish, root for him not to come back. It might be good for the MAC, but it's terrible for the Zips.
  24. The last time the East did not have four of the top five seeds was in 2005 (and even then the East had three of the top five). I just don't see the East dominance ending any time soon (just like I don't see the West dominance in football ending any time soon).
  25. At double the salary, heck yes.
