Found a bug in Zips Zone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MDZip replied to Zipsrifle's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Exact same thing happened to me at the MAC web broadcast. I ran over to start 1350 to listen to Frenchie's call. -
What a run by this Zips team - is this the year Karma finally gives the payback?

Architect!? I thought he was an importer/exporter... or maybe just an importer He should have been a Marine Biologist - he always wanted to pretend he was a Marine Biologist.

I completely admit I stole this image from the BUGS site, I just had to alter it a little. Sorry the somewhat sloppy edit, but I just felt they had the wrong caption on their site. This one was far more obvious. Go Zippy, squash the BUGS.

The shoes were released today at House of Hoops in NYC. I just called them and they do have a few left but you need to be in NY to get them (but from the PD article it also appears at least a few will be available in Cleveland). It just so happens my son is in NY today for the Big East Tournament, so I'm trying to reach him to see if I can get him up to get a pair. They do not seem like they are going to be released to a widespread distribution, it seems more like a very limited release for collectors. I even called Nike and the person I talked to had less information than I did - but she did mention that she had talked to another Zips fan that morning. Anyway, here is the PD article on their release -3/13/2009, 6:43 a.m. EDTThe Associated Press CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) — LeBron James is stepping out for his Ohio hometown on his newest Nike sneaker. The latest shoe in the company's Zoom LeBron VI line pays tribute to Akron by featuring the city's downtown skyline in its stitching. It also shows a sign for Hickory Street — where the Cleveland Cavaliers star grew up — and a milk crate, the "basket" James used when he first played hoops.Nike spokesman KeJuan Wilkins says the shoe is a sign of James' deep connection with Akron. The limited-edition white, navy blue and gold sneaker is being released Friday in New York and costs $140 per pair.At least one chain store in Cleveland expects to have a few dozen pairs available for sale on Saturday.

Pretty close call - he went for ten with three other guys in double figures.Linhart through and including tonights win over Miami (131 games):Points = 991Rebounds = 602Steals = 185Assists = 173Turnovers = 172Blocks = 52Floor Burns = 131+ (one for every record breaking game he's played)

Just regular fouls?

53-52 Can't with about 8 minutes left. I can't (no pun intended) see how the winner of this game doesn't make the final.

According to Graham Watson at ESPN, the Miami-Colorado game is officially off - and the date was supposed to be Sep. 12th, the date we still have open. Colorado would be great, regardless of whether it is a week early.Colorado off RedHawks' schedule March 11, 2009 4:04 PMPosted by ESPN.com's Graham Watson After much controversy, the nonconference schedule for Miami (Ohio) is finally complete but won't be released to the public until the Mid-American Conference schedule is official. And that could be a couple of weeks away. That's when Miami will announce that its nonconference schedule consists of Kentucky, Northwestern, Boise State and Cincinnati in 2009. (My edit - that is a terrific non-conference schedule).Gone from Miami's original nonconference schedule is Colorado, which was supposed to play the RedHawks at Yager Stadium on Sept. 12.For weeks it's been speculated that the Colorado game would be dumped in favor of a matchup against Kentucky on Sept. 5. A Miami official confirmed Wednesday that the Northwestern game, which had been originally scheduled for Sept. 5, was moved, but couldn't specify the new date.Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn did not immediately return a message left Wednesday morning.By terminating the contract with Colorado, the RedHawks are on the hook for a $750,000 guarantee. There is no word on whether the school or the conference will foot that bill or whether Miami will find a replacement opponent for Colorado. The only MAC team with an open nonconference date is Akron, but teams such as Bowling Green, Toledo and Northern Illinois have been mentioned as possibilities to fill that slot. There is a lot of backstory to this scheduling snafu that probably won't be revealed until after the schedules are officially released. Some of it has to do with television and some of it has to do with poor scheduling and communication. It will be interesting to see how the entire scenario shakes out.

Hadn't heard about a potential MSU game yet, but if the site is right we need home games in 2011. Maybe Northwestern could fit in then? But you're right about that site not always being accurate, they have our all time record against Indiana as being 2-1, which it is when you count Indiana University of Pennsylvania, which they did.
-
I'm still rooting for Northwestern, but if they keep the Miami game on another date, NW will have already have twelve games. If they don't, NW only has 5 away games this season, we could make it 6. I'd have no problem opening up the Info a week or two early for Northwestern, but we need a BCS school for the opening, so if not another BCS school, Indiana will be just fine. We could go on the road against NW but if they're in a scheduling bind, I wouldn't do it without a home game the following year.

Where did you see that? macreportonline says Jordan Mincy is Defensive POY. That is the macreportline's winner. The official winner comes out of the MAC office after the coaches vote on it. http://mac-sports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPS...;ATCLID=3690084

assaulted on court by thugs = 1Here's the dream scenario. Nate scores 18 points over the next two games (right at his average) and then his first point of the MAC Championship game puts him in the 1000 point club. Of course the Zips win the game because you can't destroy that kind of a scenario. And while I'm wishing, I'd like a pony.

Careful here - remember what happened during look-a-like threads during football season. I'll grant you this is after the fact, but no need to tempt the basketball gods, however, Dr. Z's shaved head contest seems to have worked, I think we need another for Thursday. :)All six East teams are still alive and the West has their own little mini bracket all to themsleves (sort of like NCAA-NIT?). That seems to be a metaphor for the way the season played out, all the East teams beating up the West and each other while the West played in their own little enclave. Fitting that all of the East teams are still alive and playing each other. Did anyone notice that each of the PD's writers predicted an Akron-Buffalo final (and each picked the opposite team in that final)? Should be a fun few next days.

If we make it every time Cleveland St. makes it, I'll take that again this year.

Villanova was an 8 seed that year (which is indeed the lowest seed ever to win), but just a few seconds ago Cleveland St. upset Butler to win the Horizon League title. My point? They had a very difficult opening round game as well. It's still possible.
-
Someone needs to tell him that so he quits taking them.Glad nobody told him.

Hope to see you at the end of the week, troll!
-
No freaking way!!! Wow!
-
Are there going to be enough players left to finish the game? Sheeesh. Humpty picked a good time to break out of his three point slump.

No pep band or cheerleaders for the opening round games??
MDZip replied to The Hip Zip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Don't get too complacent, Zips. Depaul (0-18 Big East) knocks off Cincinnati in the first round of the Big East tournament. -

Just another good argument for keeping the first round games on campus. Of course no matter what, it helps us so I'm fine with keeping it the way it is. -
So greater "manhood" would have been shown by also getting one of the Zips ejected? It takes far greater strength and self-discpline to walk away and do the right thing for your team than retaliate and show you are no better. Even over on the Can't boards there are calls for addtional suspension time.I don't think one of the Akron players should have hit back but one of them should have step up to Mr. THug and told him that this crap isn't gonna fly. just get in his grill a little. not doing so shows that you have no respect for your team mates or backbone. but again it's something you have to go the right way about doing. I'm sure if I walked up and punched one of your family members like that you wouldn't just "walk away." atleast I hope you wouldn'tWhile there is a difference bewteen what happens in "real life" and what happens on an athletic field, defending yourself (or others who cannot defend themselves) is perfectly acceptable, but you still have to either think about the consequences or accept what they bring (the former is a little more rational), rather than just react. Letting the thug know that was an unnacceptable act by getting in his face would have seemed to be reasonable, but what else might have resulted from it? Of course this rhetorical argument would be a lot more compelling had the Zips won the game. Oh karma where are you? Maybe it's saving it for the MAC tournament.
