  1. Great list, two things stand out to me. While you're right, you may be missing a few older championships, but even if its reasonably accurate list, the rate of championships over the last few years has been incredible. And while it looks like you broke it down by primarily by calendar year instead of school year, if you look at it strictly by school year, I think this is the greatest year in athletics in school history. With the mens soccer team with a sweet sixteen appearance (and we all know it should have been better), a basketball NCCA appearance and MAC championship and two individual NCAA championships, this year has got to top the list. Also men's outdoor track has won the last two MAC championships too.
  2. And as a result of Stevi's points the Akron women currently sit tied for 14th (they were tied for 4th right after she won it). Plus we have two All-Americans with her and Daniel Kinsey. Pretty cool. Winning an NCAA championship is no small thing, congratulations to her. So does Mack get credit for this one? I think not, he announced he was leaving before she won it. Did Houston win any NCAA championships today?
  3. On the camera pointing East, you can see quite a lot of progress on the dorms. I know they don't affect the stadium progress, but the whole campus together is going to look really impressive when that's done. They won't be done by the stadium opening but does anyone know what the completion date for them is? Once the stadium is done will we have "dorm-cam" until they're done?
  4. Being relatively isolated in Maryland (although I was suprised how many Zips fans came to the games we played at Navy), around the time the Zips were in the MACC for football, I didn't have anyone else to share in the fun, so I happened to do a search and ran across ZipsNation at that time. I lurked for a while, figuring since I didn't live there I wouldn't have much to contribute but once I got the hang of how the site worked, I got bold and posted. Here I am a couple years later with a few hundred posts and living 360 miles from Akron and I have season tickets for football (still have family in the area) and have donated money to basketball and soccer. I dragged former Zips who knew nothing about us being in the Basketball title game this year to my house to watch it. I am fairly sure I would have never done any of that and would have continued to have felt isolated and detached from the Universitiy without ZNO. I've met a number of members on road trips (the Captain at the Pitt basketball game, GoZips out in Portland, JohnnyZip84 and SeeTeeZip at the Ball State game last year). I want people to know what a gem Akron really has, it ticks me off when people put it down like it is a glorified community college, it could not be further from that now. Kudos to the folks who started this board and the visionary leadership we have on campus now. I try to talk up the University whenever I can.As a side note, my girlfriend's son got a brochure from Akron. It could not have portrayed the University more poorly. It basically showed three kids on the front smiling in Akron shirts. Those were the only graphics. I brought her last weekend for the stadium tour and she was blown away by the campus, couldn't believe it was in the center of Akron. She also thought the brochure that was sent didn't even come close to representing the University the way it is now. We need to do better in representing the University in all aspects.
  5. Ahhh, don't worry about it, this isn't exactly the National Archives. While the heads-up is nice to keep the conspiratorial theorists among us quiet, we appreciate all the effort that goes into maintaining ZNO. This is all assuming, of course, that none of MY posts were deleted.
  6. I've been to both Roberston stadium at the University of Houston and the Info. The Info kicks Roberston's butt now (well other than the Heisman trophy banner), but that might be the reason they want him. Almost no one is any job in the country has such loyalty to a place that they wouldn't take a better position somewhere else (otherwise they are likely retired in place). I wouldn't even be surprised (nor hold any grudge) if in a few years after more success, KD went on elsewhere. It is a fact of life in smaller leagues. The job a a higher-pressure (and higher paid) university does not draw everytone, however. Alabama has now had 5 head coaches since 2000. I wouldn't be happy to be a fan of their program right now either. By the way. Mack is one of eight people vying for the UH job. Odds aren't good, but if he gets it, good for him.
  7. Buffalo - FootballMarshall - Football (they brought them back from the dead literally)It would be fairly easy to look at all 120 D-1 schools and come up with a list of schools that have had to cut sports to save money and brought them back when alumni and school attendance were able to support it.Marshall never dropped football, they even played the year after the crash. They have had a team continuously since 1919.
  8. With Zeke the Zip being ofizzle now (man I just can't pull that off), at least we know that will be the only ZZZZ's in the JAR for the next few years. As a matter of fact, I think Dr. Z should be forced to transfer his moniker for the next four years.
  9. Interestingly, the distance between their current and proposed arenas is almost exactly the same as ours, a little over a mile difference. The biggest difference though is the majority of our campus lies bewteen the two sites while the majority of theirs is all to one side. We'd still have a little better situation in my opinion.
  10. It is a great roster. So who will be taking over for Evan Bush? Is it Meves? Last freshman goalie we had (Bush) worked out pretty well.
  11. There is a pretty interesting article from the Columbus dispatch about how open FBS schools are to athletics records (particularly football).Columbus Dispatch ArticleIts hows how amenable schools were to giving the records, lots of schools blanked them out, Akron did not get very good marks in that regard. Some wanted too much money to cover the cost of the request (most were under $100, all but one was under $1,000 and the University of Maryland wanted over $30,000 - I guess when you have a 10% basketball garduation rate, you have a lot more to hide). The Zips have also been hit with only one major violation ove the last 50 years or so, it was in 1984 and it was the only violation they ever got. Arizona State is tied for the lead with 8 majors (and a number of minors) while the entire MAC only has 10 majors between all 14 teams. Buffalo leads the way with three. I definitely question one stat for Akron though, it says the general student population graduation rate is only 36%. That can't be right. Anyway, a pretty interesting article with some useful information.
  12. They ranked us one spot ahead of Purdue (they were #94 and had a 46 position drop from last year). i don't agree with that but they always have a "teaser" at the bootm of the page to give you a clue who the next team is. The teaser at the bootm of the Purdue story for Akron was Who is No. 93?: Our next school was ranked by the Princeton Review as the No. 1 best value among American private colleges.I'm thinking there may have been a mistake.
  13. That is true and The Mob would sound way better than Pouch, Roo Zoo, etc. I say we go with it.
  14. Well I was really more interested in a Shakespearian sonnet with an interesting iambic pentameter but since you asked for haiku:Football 33Can't's to Akron's last champAnd Basketball 1But I'll end with a limerickSo that you say that our team's in the canAnd it was never a part of our planBut you cannot complainuntil you've suffered real painand tragically end up as a K.S.U. fan
  15. I think the fact that the facade is going up on the pressbox might be the best view of the "finished" product. It looks great, a whole lot better than that "roughed in" concrete look. I have no doubts at all that the stadium will be ready on time.
  16. I think Mike was just trying to find a clever, yet safe way to use "taint" in his blog.I think the Captain was just trying to find a way to get mentioned in Rasor's blog.
  17. I'm right there with you (and as a matter of fact if you go to the game, I will literally be right there with you), but I really hope they decide to have all that spit and fire on the 5th of September, and not wait until the 15th.
  18. The ones you linked to are the ones actually worn by the team. You can see them on Humpty Hitchens from a link earlier in this threadhttp://uaim.dyndns.info/photo_galleries/_A...e/021109015.htmThose are not available publicly as far as I know, I think they are exclusively for the UA men's team. The other shoes are the collectors edition (who would have ever thought sneakers would become collector's items?) that are available to the general public. From what I understand there were only about 3,000 pairs made.
  19. I finally got the shoes, they are pretty nice. I think I will only wear them to tournament games. I attached a picture in case you want to get a better look at them. I folded down the inside flap on the shoes so you could see where the UA logo was placed. Fairly well hidden but at least it's there. Also on the sole it has "LeBron" on one side and "unstoppable" on the other (couldn't he at least have put (Ak)(LeB)ron on the one side? ). With the way this year's playoffs are going, he might be right. By the way did anyone notice at the end of Game 2 against Atlanta, when Joe Smith was shooting a foul shot, there was an ad for Akron up on the scoreboard? I'm just hoping it worked as subliminal advertising. Anyway, here are the shoes (did anyone else manage to get a pair, did they get sold around Akron?):
  20. That's one of the other things that appears to show Zeke is an independent thinker. This game does not has the prestige of previous years and they mention that Zeke is the only D-I player to participate. I'm sure other D-I players at least got an invite, but I'll bet some turned it down for not being "big league" enough. I'm glad Zeke doesn't think that way. I'm happy he is going to come to play basketball for us since that is a very visible aspect but I'm even more proud that an independent thinker like that chose the Zips because it is where he wanted to go to school, not just to play basketball.
  21. I think it is a very challenging schedule. Good for a team with National title aspirations. I'm glad we get Indiana at home, but I think we might as well just apply for Big Ten associate membership (and that way Northwestern can't keep ducking us:)). And why all the hate for Oklahoma State Unversity. It's a fine school.
  22. At least we aren't playing Army this season
  23. Or Rosey Brown, Len Ford or Willie Lanier (all of whom are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame with Leroy Kelly) - we maybe have a shot with one. Also Chester, Raymond (1970 - 1981) Franks, Elvis (1980 - 1986) Fuqua, John "Frenchy" (1969 - 1976) Meggett, Dave (1989 - 1998) Shiancoe, Vishante (2003 - 2008) for a few other guys you may have heard of. Morgan's NFL player history eclipses Akron in quality and quantity. Not to say that I expect the game to be that close or a Morgan victory, but they do have a pretty impressive history.
  24. My guess would be that Jeff will have to recuse himself and Keith will handle the visit. Anybody know any good asst coaches out there that happen to be named Jeff Smart (or perhaps the less likely Shaka Boals? )
