Sometimes it is really hard to read some of the babyish postgame dribble on this board. Akron shot like crap and lost to a good team in Buffalo. The officials did not lose the game for the Zips, shooting like garbage the first half did. Being up by one at halftime was a joke as the Zips should have been up by 15+. More missed layups, bad crosscourt passing and Joyce being invisible for yet another game is the reason why the team lost. Middleton is the best guard we have. Bubba takes bad shots and then argues about it on the bench. Grow up kid, it's March. When fans bitch and moan about the stripes and lost by 16+ you show ignorance and blinders as to the real reasons for the loss. Please educate yourself. If Daddy don't like hoops keep him in the damn rest home. This is college basketball and no one should aplogize for the game. You could make the same comments about college football, and many on this board did, after the Hawaii / Michigan State game. Memories are short around here. Win or lose this team has exceeded expectations and deserves to have a big crowd at the JAR Monday night. I will be there.

I think that the play of our guards has been the missing link against Can't State and Buffalo. Joyce has not been passing well around the edges of the defense and has been slow to penetrate on the bounce. His assists are down, but that is also due to the big guys blolwing a lot of bunny layups. Akron is only as good as it's guard play and right now they are playing like a B team. Buffalo has the best guard in the MAC in Turner Battle and it will take one of the best games of Joyce's career to help lead Akron to a win in that "hellhole of a barn they call a gym" < Hoosier's quote. Who would have thought 18 wins from this group?

Watched the game at home tonight - funny guys on the air - made watching a boring game bareable. Zips continued to get killed on the glass but come back to shoot big and never trail. Coupled with the Can't loss this was a great night.

I decided to figure out several different scenarios for how the last week could play out. I’m assuming in all of these that OU (beating Buffalo, losing to Can't), Can't, Buffalo, and Akron all finish 1-1. An unexpected road win by Ohio @ Can't, Buffalo @ Ohio, or Akron @ Buffalo would pretty much assure that team of the bye at 12-6. Otherwise, these would be the tie-breaker scenarios for teams tied at 11-7… If WMU beats BG, loses @ BSU, Toledo wins @ NIU & vs. EMU, Ohio wins vs. Buffalo, loses @ Can't Can't loses @ Miami, wins vs. Ohio Akron wins vs. Marshall, loses @ Buffalo BGSU loses @ WMU, wins vs. CMU Buffalo loses @ Ohio, wins vs. Akron 2) Toledo (2-1 vs. WMU & BGSU, 1-0 vs. WMU) 3) WMU (5-3) 4) Ohio (5-4) 5) Akron (5-5) 6) Can't (4-5) 7) BGSU (3-4) 8) Buffalo (4-6) If WMU beats BG Toledo loses @ NIU Ohio wins vs. Buffalo, loses @ Can't Can't loses @ Miami, wins vs. Ohio Akron wins vs. Marshall, loses @ Buffalo BGSU loses @ WMU, wins vs. CMU Buffalo loses @ Ohio, wins vs. Akron 2) WMU 3) Akron (5-4) 4) Ohio (4-4) (1-1 vs. Can't, 1-1 vs. Miami, 1-0 vs. WMU) 5) Can't (4-4) (1-1 vs. Ohio, 1-1 vs. Miami, 0-1 vs. WMU) 6) BGSU (3-2) 7) Buffalo (3-5) If BGSU wins @ WMU & vs. CMU WMU loses vs. BGSU, wins @ Ball St. Toledo wins @ NIU & vs. EMU Ohio wins vs. Buffalo, loses @ Can't Can't loses @ Miami, wins vs. Ohio Akron wins vs. Marshall, loses @ Buffalo Buffalo loses @ Ohio, wins vs. Akron 2) BGSU 3) Ohio (5-3) 4) Can't (4-4) (0-2 vs. Toledo & WMU) 5) Toledo (3-3) (2-0 vs. Can't & WMU) 6) WMU (3-3) (1-1 vs. Toledo & Can't) 7) Akron (4-5) (1-1 vs. Buffalo, 1-1 vs. Miami, 1-0 vs. BGSU) 8) Buffalo (4-5) (1-1 vs. Akron, 1-1 vs. Miami, 0-1 vs. BGSU) If BGSU wins @ WMU & vs. CMU WMU loses vs. BGSU, wins @ Ball St. Toledo loses @ NIU & wins vs. EMU Ohio wins vs. Buffalo, loses @ Can't Can't loses @ Miami, wins vs. Ohio Akron wins vs. Marshall, loses @ Buffalo Buffalo loses @ Ohio, wins vs. Akron 2) BGSU 3) WMU (3-2) 4) Ohio (4-3) (1-1 vs. Can't, 1-1 vs. Miami, 1-1 vs. BGSU) 5) Can't (4-3) (1-1 vs. Ohio, 1-1 vs. Miami, 0-1 vs. BGSU) 6) Akron (3-4) (1-1 vs. Buffalo, 1-1 vs. Miami, 1-0 vs. BGSU) 7) Buffalo (3-4) (1-1 vs. Akron, 1-1 vs. Miami, 0-1 vs. BGSU) If BGSU wins @ WMU & vs. CMU WMU loses vs. BGSU & @ Ball St. Toledo wins @ NIU & vs. EMU Ohio wins vs. Buffalo, loses @ Can't Can't loses @ Miami, wins vs. Ohio Akron wins vs. Marshall, loses @ Buffalo Buffalo loses @ Ohio, wins vs. Akron 2) BGSU 3) Toledo (3-2) 4) Ohio (4-3) (1-1 vs. Can't, 1-1 vs. Miami, 1-1 vs. BGSU) 5) Can't (4-3) (1-1 vs. Ohio, 1-1 vs. Miami, 0-1 vs. BGSU) 6) Akron (4-4) 7) Buffalo (3-4) If BGSU wins @ WMU & vs. CMU WMU loses vs. BGSU & @ Ball St. Toledo loses @ NIU & wins vs. EMU Ohio wins vs. Buffalo, loses @ Can't Can't loses @ Miami, wins vs. Ohio Akron wins vs. Marshall, loses @ Buffalo Buffalo loses @ Ohio, wins vs. Akron 2) BGSU 3) Can't (4-2) 4) Akron (3-3) (2-0 vs. Ohio) 5) Ohio (3-3) (0-2 vs. Akron) 6) Buffalo (2-4)

You don't feel like going to the JAR for every game... like that is so much of an inconvenience. To admit that makes you worse than a fairweather fan, your just plan casual and not what Akron needs. I hope you don't buy season tickets and are half of the Blue Hair Seat crowd that never come, leave seats open and make up look bad on TV. Folks like you should just take your fandom to Cleveland and buy Cavs duckets.

Hey neighbor... no one said Can't State was going to make it out of the Quarterfinals. The 17K will be for Akron and Miami.
-
Can't STATE, THE OTHER WHITE MEAT... R.I.P. flushES 3-10-05 Akron takes the MAC Tournament in front of 17K at Gund Arena.
-
I would rather see Akron lose twice in the regular season to Can't if it meant that we could win the MAC title over those guys in front of 17K at Gund on national TV. OVER, NEVER. WE'RE JUST BEGINNING!

Packers may be interested in QB Frye By Dylan B. Tomlinson PackersNews.com INDIANAPOLIS — With Brett Favre’s future in question and three picks in the first two rounds of this year’s NFL draft, there is a strong chance this could be the year when the Green Bay Packers use a high pick on a quarterback. The Packers were ready to take Tulane quarterback J.P. Losman last year but never had the opportunity when the Buffalo Bills jumped three slots ahead of them in the first round to select Losman with the 22nd pick. California’s Aaron Rodgers and Utah’s Alex Smith are rated as the top two quarterbacks in the draft and are both expected to be among the top picks. “They both obviously were outstanding and successful this past season,†Packers General Manager Ted Thompson said. “They both have traits that would lead you to believe that they’re going to have fine careers in the NFL.†But those careers almost certainly won’t be with the Packers. Rodgers is the early favorite to be taken by the San Francisco 49ers with the No. 1 overall pick. Smith likely won’t go much later, and might be taken as high as No. 3 by the Cleveland Browns. “You really can’t go wrong with either of them,†Cleveland coach Romeo Crennel said. There isn’t likely to be a can’t-miss quarterback prospect on the board when the Packers pick at No. 24 in the first round. But there are several quarterbacks who might interest the Packers when they’re making their selections in the first and second rounds. Akron’s Charlie Frye might be the most intriguing of those prospects. Frye was named MVP at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., last month, and was so impressive that week that Oakland Raiders coach Norv Turner, who coached Frye’s North team, said Frye “made himself millions of dollars with that performance.†Frye said the Packers have been one of the teams to show the most interest. He said he would relish the opportunity to learn from Favre and play in Green Bay. “I would love to play for the Packers,†Frye said. “Just to be on the same field with Favre would be a tremendous honor for me.†In the last few years, there almost always seems to be a quarterback who draws the inevitable comparison to Favre. In 2003, it was Florida’s Rex Grossman. Last year, it was Losman. This year, Frye is that guy. While comparing any undrafted, unproven quarterback to a future Hall of Famer such as Favre might seem absurd, the comparison is usually a statement to a quarterback’s toughness and scrappy play rather than an expectation that a player will have a career similar to Favre’s. “He has all of the traits you look for in a quarterback,†Browns General Manager Phil Savage said. “His toughness really stands out.†While Favre has become legendary for his toughness and his ability to play hurt, Frye developed quite the reputation as an iron man while at Akron. In 2002, during his sophomore season, Frye played nine games with a broken thumb, and still managed to complete 65 percent of his passes. Favre played the final nine games of the 2003 regular season with a broken thumb. “When people mention my name in the same sentence as his, I’m almost speechless,†Frye said. “I’ve always wanted to be the type of player he is and I’ve always admired his ability to play hurt.†Frye is just the latest of pro quarterback prospects to come out of the Mid-American Conference. A few years ago, playing at a mid-major could be seen as a knock on a quarterback since he didn’t play against major-level competition. But lately some of the best young NFL quarterbacks have come out of the MAC. Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich both came from Marshall and have had considerable success with the New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars. Ben Roethlisberger came from Miami of Ohio and was named NFL rookie of the year after going 14-0 as a starter during the regular season for the Pittsburgh Steelers. “They’ve erased all of those doubts,†Frye said. “But they’ve also set the bar pretty high for the rest of us.â€

NFL combine notes: QBs Campbell, Frye give 49ers options By Matthew Barrows -- Bee Staff Writer Published 2:15 am PST Saturday, February 26, 2005 INDIANAPOLIS - Jason Campbell and Charlie Frye may not be the top quarterbacks at the combine, but they became instant favorites of NFL scouts Friday when they announced they would fully participate in workouts this weekend. "I can't see why anyone would want to come down here and not do the drills," said Frye of Akron. "It's what we're here for." Though Cal's Aaron Rodgers and Utah's Alex Smith - who will take part in just some of the weekend workouts - are considered the draft's top passers, Frye or Campbell could be solid fall-back choices for the 49ers if they go with someone other than a quarterback with the No. 1 pick. Campbell, tall and athletic, guided Auburn to an undefeated record in one of college football's toughest conferences. He's projected as a late first-or early second-round choice and would be an option for the 49ers with their second-round pick, the 33rd selection overall. Frye is a scrapper in the mold of former 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia. He caught the scouts' eye during Senior Bowl practices last month and eventually was named the MVP of the game. Weighty matter - Last year at this time, scouts were concerned that at 230 pounds USC receiver Mike Williams wouldn't have the speed to excel in the pros. Williams said he recently had been working out at 216 pounds. But when he stepped on the scale Friday, he hit almost 229 pounds. What happened? "The lunches and breakfasts they have here are so good," he said with a laugh. Williams will not work out for scouts this weekend but vowed to run "way below 4.5" seconds at his private workout March 10. Great news - first Men's Soccer, now Women's Indoor Track. Add to that football being in position tpo play fo a title and now men's basketball too... a good year to be part of ZIPSNATION and it will only get better.

Been here a where - just not registered. Ease up Rommell, have another Warsteiner. Just amazed at how little traffic there is on a board just hours after such a big game. Check out the boards at Miami and Ohio and see the volume of fans. You'd think Akron would have a similar number.

19 views but no responses as to if you are going to the next game? the final home game? a cricial game... are you really fans or just fairweather watercooler trashtalkers.

Who is going to be in the JAR for the Marshall game? I know I will be. I wish the place would be a sellout like Can't was last night. Too bad this team has not seen a true sellout all year.

Saturday's Results: Can't – 73 Akron – 68 Ohio – 83 Marshall – 62 WMU – 73 EMU – 63 Toledo – 68 CMU – 44 Current Standings  1) Miami 11-4 2) WMU 10-6 3) Can't St. 10-6 (3-2 vs. Akron, Buffalo, Ohio) (2-0 vs. Akron) 4) Akron 10-6 (3-2 vs. Buffalo, Ohio, Can't) (0-2 vs. Can't) 5) Ohio 10-6 (2-2 vs. Akron, Buffalo, Can't) 6) Buffalo 10-6 (1-3 vs. Akron, Ohio, Can't) 7) BGSU 9-6 8) Toledo 9-7 9) Ball State 8-7 10) NIU 6-10 11) EMU 5-11 12) CMU 3-14 13) Marshall 2-14 Remaining matchups: Sunday: Miami @ BGSU, Ball St. @ NIU Wednesday: Marshall @ Akron, BGSU @ WMU, Ball St. @ EMU, Can't @ Miami, Buffalo @ Ohio, Toledo @ NIU Saturday: WMU @ Ball St., EMU @ Toledo, CMU @ BGSU, Akron @ Buffalo, Miami @ Marshall, Ohio @ Can't MAC Golf Standings: (road wins are birdies, home losses are bogeys, road losses and home wins are pars) East (-5) 1. Miami -3 2. Akron -2 -- Buffalo -2 -- Can't St -2 -- Ohio -2 6. Marshall +5 West (+5) 1. BG -2 -- WMU -2 3. UT -1 4. BSU Even 5. NIU +1 6. EMU +3 7. CMU +5 Here's how I believe the 8-way tie would work out (assuming teams finish the way I'd expect...a huge IF): Toledo would win the 4-way tie for the West, due to only playing WMU once and winning. That would remove them from the logjam, making it a 7-way tie. The 7-way tie would be broken based on each team's record vs. the other 6 11-7 teams: 3) BSU 5-3 4) WMU 5-4 5) Akron 5-4 6) Ohio 5-5 7) BGSU 4-5 8) Can't 4-5 9) Buffalo 4-6 That would be a really rough break for Buffalo, and a monumental jump for Ball St. Of course, that's all assuming I'm right about Toledo winning a 4-way tie for the West, and then being removed from the rest of the pack for further tie-breaking purposes. Regardless, NIU can do all the current 2-8 teams a big favor by knocking off the Cardinals in DeKalb. However, if Ball State were to finish 11-7 it would mean they beat Western twice, going 4-2 against Tol, BG, and Western. They would get the #2 seed, and if my talley marks are right it taking them out of the equation: 2 BSU 3 Ohio 4 WMU 5 Akron 6 Toledo 7 BG 8 Can't 9 Buff And of course one road win by someone messes it all up.
