  1. I heard some of the show on Friday. Ken Carmon back tracked pretty quickly when Keith Kennedy brought up what Ken said earlier in the week about Ianello dogging him. What came out this time was they always want Ianello during practice. 3-6 weekdays is not good. So why not a taped interview? Also now that the season is over, they should be able to get him on. I would like to hear good, solid questions though. No need to be a jerk but no need to make it an infomercial either.
  2. Good win yesterday, here is what I would ask Rob in his season wrap up press conference. 1. Coach, you have been in this role for about a year now. Looking back and self assessing what if anything would you have done differently or what did you change throughout the year which was a positive? 2. The team played better in the 2nd half of the year, was competitive and gave great effort when they could have folded. That is a testament to the staff and players. You have consistently praised Mike Thomas and Alex Allen for their leadership. Who are the leaders of the team now? Are you comfortable that enough key people are ready to assume leadership roles? 3. Over 90% of the carries went to Alex Allen and Nate Burney. With their graduation, the only players on the roster with any significant carries are Broderick Alexander and Dale Martin. How is Broderick healing? What does Martin have to do to see the field? 4. 2 of your key recruits who played fairly well, Antoine Russell and Richard Hall were suspended the last couple of weeks. Are they still part of the program? 5. As a follow up, more than several players left the program or were asked to leave throughout the year. Do you expect more attrition in the offseason? Has everyone else bought in to your philosophy? 6. Are you planning to recruit at the JUCO level? If so, heavily or just a couple of guys? 7. The top 2 playmakers, LaFRance and Carter are graduating. Is there anyone currently in the program ready to step up into a playmaker role? Who are you high on? 8. Assessing the program, where do you still see holes that need to be corrected? What is your plan to correct them? 9. While many areas could be improved, the QB always gets the most scrutiny. How did Patrick do this year? Has he done enough the be the starter? Will there be open competition in spring ball? 10. Are there any injuries that will hold guys out of active conditioning come the 1st of the year? 11. Were you pleased with your assistants? Barring any leaving of their own accord, do you forsee any changes in the offseason? 12. I may have missed this but did not see Doug Richardson walk the field yesterday with the seniors. Is he coming back next year? Further, is there anyone else listed as a senior who has gained another year of eligibility? 13. Your numbers are low and if I understand correctly, we can only sign 25 guys per year. That will take several years to get to the full allotment of 85 scholarship players. Is there anyway around this? 14. Will there be any scheme changes? 15. Finally, everyone on this board cares deeply about the Zips and wants the program and you to succeed. It's been almost 25 years since moving to Div 1 and we are still waiting for sustained success. You mentioned several times that progess is being made, progress that can't be seen and eventually it will be seen on the field in wins. How close are we to seeing it? I know this is one you probably can't answer. On the outside looking in, I don't see how you can have this much turnover and get competitive in a year or two unless you get a couple studs and some luck. Tell me that I am wrong. Best of luck Coach in offseason recruiting.
  3. Zach, we already have slots well over the max allowed of 25 available next year and I believe the following year as well. Guys may be run off or leave on their own accord, but I can't see why Ianello would need to run anyone else for scholarships. At this point, he needs bodies.
  4. Good find Zak. Bottom line though, they have to be more competitive next year.
  5. Awesome - thanks for posting!
  6. He did mention X plays (9 maybe) that went for a gazillion yards but the other 55 plays they were held to 150 yards or so. That reminds me after a 35-0 loss during the LO era his comment was you take 5 plays away, it is an even ball game. Sad to say, but I long for the LO days at this point.
  7. I made it a point to listen tonight since KD was going to be on. For one, I am excited to talk bball after being beaten down all Fall, and KD is always entertaining. Here is what I rememeber him saying . The starting rotatation is set and the top 8 guys are set. The experienced guys are better than the young guys right now. We need to find depth to get that 9th and 10th guy. Rotation is McNees ( team leader) and Roberts at the guards with Abreau getting minutes. McClanahan will start at the 3 with McKnight coming off the bench. Nik and Zeke will start down low. Nik is playing the best of everyone right now. Zeke is 50% better than last year. We will throw the ball to Zeke everytime. Will he be able to deliver the mail everytime? Not yet, but by the middle of the year to the end of the year look out. His basketball IQ is way up. Bardo has rededicated himself and looks really good. McKnight will play the 3 and 4 as a back up. It it good to get him back. The East will be tough with Can't and Akron battling it out. Everyone is picking OU, and Miami is good. Buffalo plays hard and BG has that zone. But I think it comes down to Can't and Akron again
  8. I agree. 3 wins last year and most games were competitive. They at least had a shot in the 4th quarter. We are getting drilled by 40+ to 2nd tier MAC teams now.
  9. Alleman had a personal engagement already committed to before he got the job. He should be back next week. Luckily I missed the game last week. I too am going to think hard about coming down for the last 2 games. Good Zips Live show, they talked a half hour about the coaches bios. I learned a lot about how things are going to be turned around.
  10. I could be wrong but I seem to remember a year ago Rasor writing that ohio.com bought out U of A for Rasor's blog.
  11. Appreciate the insight GoZips. Did everyone look to be in good shape coming in? Brett McKnight is the one guy that I worry about but I assume that he is not practicing yet?
  12. 10 of the recruits from last year's class played today. They pretty much have burned the redshirts. Good commentary from Alleman and Joe Dunn. They have to try Rodgers next week. Give guys a chance to rally around someone. You need to get a JUCO QB anyway that can play the pro set. Put Rodgers in and run the no huddle next week. Let's see what happens.
  13. Given the consistency that this program has shown over the past 20 years, OU should be good for 40 next week on our D. Before there was always some hope. Our facilities are bad, if we just had better facilities turned into well the field house helps but we really need a new stadium turned into well it's a new coach, give him time. Not much of a result for all of the building that has been done the past 10 years.
  14. This game reminded me of Temple last year. Giving up more than 50 at home to a MAC team in back to back years is horrible. I left late 3rd quarter and listened to French driving home. At one point after a 3rd string NIU RB ran for about 20 on our 1st team defense, his comment was, "You just have to have better effort than that, plain and simple." I don't know if the players have tuned out the staff but they gave up last night. No way is the talent level of any MAC team 35 pts better than another. Thankfully I am out of town next week. I don't want to see a beatdown at Can't. I have had season tickets for 16 years since graduating. This is the 1st time where I may decide to skip going the rest of the season especially if it is 10 degrees colder and raining like last night. I can find better things to do than watch this.
  15. Mrs ICoach is getting props on their message board though. On a second note, I never realized the bitterness that they have for us. Good to hear that we are celebrating the MAC 2005 championship this weekend. They can play Getsy to Hixon over and over on the scoreboard.
  16. It is not a bad thing to not publicly call someone out. And I don't think that it is bad to always be under control with the media. I don't see Nick Saban going nutso with the media. How Ianello handles things in the locker room is more important.
  17. Donte Cloud - the steal of the MAC per an expert on Joe Dunn's radio show that week. I will go even further and say the whole Glenville contingent that JD signed his first year. Brendon Banks - switched from ASU to Akron after a coaching change. Matt Domonkos - transfer from Wisconsin, isn't that the year we had to have school wide tryouts? J Sharps - highly touted WR, never trust a guy with one letter to his first name. Jason Sekinger - transfer from MN, did he get more than 10 snaps? On the opposite end, how about a walk on who came out of nowhere - Lavel Bailey.
  18. Agreed, well deserved for KD.
  19. Good luck to Lamont. I am sure that he will be missed. But when McFadden was elevated to the #1 assistant after Boals left, I figured that Paris would eventually leave. Looks like he got a nice step up, good for him.
  20. By that time we will probably be looking for a new AD as they roll over every 3 years. The whole athletic dept will change and we will be in transition for the next 6 months.
  21. That podcast works nice. Thanks for posting. I agree. Can we get something like this for ZipsLive? I can't always listen to it on the radio. I missed Monday's one with Caleb Porter. You did not miss anything Zach. They had an Aeros game on instead. Monday morning Gozips.com has an article to tune in that night and the Aeros game is on instead. Sometimes it is so frustrating to see the lack of communication and execution.
  22. Put me in the camp in favor of the schedule. MSU over Milken would have been nice. Overall though I am satisified. I am much more excited about going to the JAR early in the year for CSU and even YSU than I was for the stretch of games that we had last year. I like the tough stretch in Dec. KD talked about rebuildiing toughness in the program. Temple and Minnesota back to back is a good test. We draw like flies anyway in Nov and Dec so might as well play on the road or at a neutral site. CSU will be better than last year and Detroit I believe signed Ray McCallum' son which should vault them into the upper tier of the Horizon. This is a schedule that with 20+ wins gets us into the NIT which is much better than last year.
  23. For those who went, can you give a summary of the day. Any news from KD? Thanks much.
  24. I don't get anything one way or the other from the Youtube clip. Even though he just says coach speak, I appreciate the daily sound bites. It is one way to at least hear what the guy sounds like. At the end of the day, all that matters is winning. I have not met Ianello, but a few things that I saw over the past 6 months. He was at every basketball game and anyone who came up to him he chatted with for 5-10 minutes. Most of the people coming up to him were Joe Average guys wearing an Akron sweatshirt bought about 15 years ago, not a suit and tie guy. I don't know what goes on behind the scenes. But other than cancelling the golf outing, I think Ianello has shown a good public personna. One other note, we had a girl intern with us this summer who goes to Akron. Ianello came and spoke to her sorority and I am guessing all of the other fraternities and sororities. She said it was the 1st time since she has been at Akron that any coach came and talked to them. And she liked Ianello, excitable guy, talked to everyone, etc. She is planning to go to a few games.
