I would love to see some different formations with multiple rb's.If Pride is going to miss more than a few games, I hope they redshirt him. I would hate for them to waste an entire year of his abilities.Once you come back from injury, it takes a few games to get your legs under you.Combine that with being a true freshman, and he probably doesn't fully know the system.JD mentioned Pride in his press conference and that he may play this year when healed. He also said Alex Allen was #2 and Bryan Williams #3. Depth chart had it reversed. How about some formations with 2 TBs in the backfield? -
Nate was the #1 ranked DT in the nation a few years back. Now, as a senior, he is beaten out by a Sophomore walkon. Nothing against Pendleton, I hope he does a fantastic job. However, this must be a tad embarrasing to Nate. Nate never had a serious injury or problem that stunted his development. Either he was the most over rated recruit in the history of college football, or there is a lot more that we don't know about.I am so looking forward to seeinng Ryan Bain play next year.I agree about Pace. When he was a freshman, he looked like he was going to be a star. He suffers from Dwayne LeFall syndrom. That is the disease you get of coming in and looking like a future star, but never getting any better. If Estrada is 3rd team, I hope he redshirts. If that is still possible.Sekinger was redshirted last year due to transfer. This is his first real season of elegibility. He is only a soph.Cechetti is injured. Should be back by week 4.Thank you guys! :rock:Wow, two things jumped out at me on defense.1st, Nate can't even win the starting job at NT for what may be his last shot at impressing NFL scouts. I hope this is due to Pendleton playing extremely well. Or perhaps JD is trying one last "kick in the pants" to get him jump-started? Does anyone know if Nate is near 100% healthy? 2nd, I'm a little surprised that Chevin Pace beat out Brandon Anderson for the SS spot. We sure do have nice depth at LB and the secondary. -

Unfortunately I have lived my entire life in NE Ohio. There is noone that feels the pain more than I do.When you become numb to the heartbreak, it's a bad thing.Yes, it bodes well for the future. However, in D1 fb, the future is today. How many years am I going to hear the same stuff about the future. Let's get some players and get things going now. Yeah, I know I'm impatient, but you would be too if you have lived your entire life in NE Ohio. -
That is just plain wrong..According to Sagarin, Army is NOT the worst D1 fb team, and they show it in this BIG win. Army 14, Akron 9 (as we make 3 of 8 field goal attempts). You forgot to say they are all within 30 yards too.
-
There is a new depth chart at gozips.comWow, we are using a lot of young players. I think that bodes very well for the future. The o-line especially is very young. I am looking forward to see how some of these guys develop. We have some youth at nearly every position. This will be a great learning experience for these young guys. Having 2 B10 road games early in the season should be great experience for these guys.

Akron 27- Army 14

This was about Hakes. Until a certain poster had to change the subject to start a fight with others. But as usual it gets blamed on the Akron/OSU fan. I am still in awe of how someone can't understand how you can be a fan of 2 different schools. Especially when you went to both schools. Oh well, that's my issue I guess. I guess anyone that can't remember when UA was a DII school will never understand.I have a thought Captain, maybe you should ask the losers that keep bringing up and bashing OSU to stop doing that. Of course I understand you feel that this is a Zips board and they have the right to do that. Again, I agree, However, nobody should get upset when those things are replied to. Then we won't have these discussions. After all, they start every single one of these ridiculous arguments. However, you and others say "the OSU fans start it"
I guess when you see or read only what you want to see or read, that is the way it looks.Oh wait, I forgot in this world the jerks are the ones that respond, not the ones that instigate. Instigators are fine. However, if anyone responds to them, they are the troublemakers....
I will try to remember that from now on.I love the line about Zip fans knowing more about what's going on in C-Bus than Buckeye fans. That made me seriously LOL. Must have been posted by an 8th grader. Of course people that say things like that can never back it up with facts..I know, I know, If I don't like it go somewhere else. That is a great line....Actually Captain, I have no problem with you. For the most part you let everyone have at it. However, when you post stuff like you just posted, you may want to look a little farther into things. Just because this is an Akron site, doesn't mean that people shouldn't have common decency and objectivity.

That's kind of sad.Notre Shame is the only big time, or at least used to be, independent out there. We need to change that pattern this week.I think the Zips are 0-7 in their last seven independent matchups. I can't give you a link, but I remember reading that in one of the betting books. -
Rhoades is the problem here. He should have renegotiated the agreement.Any "average" business person would try to get the best deal possible for his company. That is obviously what our opponent did.
-
When did Pride get hurt? That sucks. I was looking forward to seeing him play.I guess we will have to wait until game time to find out about Moore and Balaam.gozips.com really sucks when it comes to the roster.

Pre 2000 is the team. DS graduated after 2000. He would certainly be there if this were all time. How could someone say that Dwight Smith wasn't that good? My cousin (who was a 4 year db at Ohio State) came to a few Akron games with me. He asked who Smith was without me telling him he was our best player. He said and I quote..."That guy is legit. He could play in the Big Ten with just about any team he wanted. Your other db's are horrible." I will take his opinion being a Big Ten db over most posters. -
You aren't the only one. I am psyched.I would love to see CJ line up in the backfield or slot. Maybe a little slash action.A receiver option pass, some razzle dazzle.CJ is too talented to sit on the bench.I too am looking forward to seeing the RB situation. I am looking more forward to seeing Alex Allen. He has an extra burst of speed.I also wonder if Gary Pride will see some action. He looks like a spark plug,

Before the past 2 years, I don't remember UA ever having kicking problems. We have always had good if not great kickers.2 years in a row is startling.

This sounds great. I am so looking forward to this season.

Wow, that is a strong statement from a fool like you. You called me an idiot.
Hey BZ, what do you mean by this comment? We? You are just another tosu idiot clogging up the board. Take sgm with you and just go away......Maybe in a few years we can give OSU a good game, but not yet. What do you mean what do I mean? Are you too stupid to understand? My point is that, UA is headed in the right direction. Hopefully in the not too distant future we can compete with some top 20 teams.I am sure in your brainless world, we will win the NC this year.Being a fan doesn't mean you have to be a homer.

There is always more to the story than any of us will know. Maybe JD told him it would be in his best interests to transfer. Maybe he saw the writing on the wall. Maybe he knew he didn't have the talent that the others had. It could be anything. In high school he was a pretty highly rated QB. It was great that we got him.Dude no offense but I just don't get your arguement. Why would he transfer before the first day of camp if he was getting equal reps??? I just feel like we don't have all the info.I really thought he was gonna be our starter this year especially after I watched him this Spring. He looked like the most talented QB we had, especially in the Spring Game. I think there had to be something else going on that we don;t know about that caused him to leave... maybe I'm the only one but I'm sort of confused. A buddy of mine on the team thought he was gonna start which is another reason I'm so perplexed. -
No point proven at all. Only that you enjoy sarcasm. You really do make no sense, but that's ok. You win. I really do quit this time.On other message boards, people have 5-6 page long threads on the same discussion. going back and forth. That is what makes this stuff fun.On here, you consider it trolling. LOL.Is is called-debating, or discussing or 100 other things. We don't call names and we don't atttack. We have fun.Oh well, to each their own. Good luck to you.
Well, passion has to be focused. So you are either loving the fact that people write back at you with some of their own passion. (which makes you a troll) Or you are angry because no one respects your wisdom or the superiorityBTW, there is a difference between being passionate and being mad.I am still waiting to prove your point where I get mad. I even said "PLEASE"of OSU.Either way my point is proven. And this thread was on Sean Hakes, and his decision to leave a program that was not heading in the right direction. Which we all know is direction not towards Sean Hakes.

"You don't bring up your other Alma Mater? Search Buckzip and count the number of OSU references. Oh so many. Whether it is after someone brought it up or not is irrellevant. Because you constantly compare our players to OSU's""Constantly", that is pure BS and you know it. There was 1-ONE thread where that was discussed. 1-ONE. I am not mad, I am merely telling you the facts.Well then, I guess we will agree to disagree.
You feel I shouldn't defend my Alma Mater when it is attacked. I feel differently. You are obviously a better person than me.
Are you an NFL referee? It seems that you look down on the person that is retaliating, rather than the instigator. Oh well, your choice.BTW, there is a difference between being passionate and being mad.I am still waiting to prove your point where I get mad. I even said "PLEASE" :DBY the way, you need to visit these types of boards more often. If you think mild debates is considered being mad, you should see some others out there. However, most of it is in good fun. This is sports. Not life and death.

I agree with you. I don't think this is a practice game. They are DI. However, I feel that we, as fans, should expect a win. I guess I am just trying to say that if lose to Army, I feel it is going to be a long season. I think this being the first game of the season is the best thing possible for the team.Noone ever overlooks thier first opponent. It is their first chance to hit someone else after a long preseason camp. Those of us that are taking this game seriously are not being pessimistic, or getting ready to make excuses. The fact is.....this is a pretty even matchup that can go either way.If you look at what I posted earlier regarding Army's win over us two years ago, and Army's game last year AT defending Sun Belt champion Arkansas State, you'll see why I feel the way I do. I'm simply trying to warn those who are thinking "well, this is a practice game...they are the worst team in the country". -
I think I completely missed what you are trying to say in the first paragraph. Are you saying I get mad when others try to put an argument up against what I am saying? Please show me where I got mad. PLEASEIf so, you are terribly wrong. I state logical facts. Certain others don't seem to be able to discuss things rationally to counter those facts. Then they resort to name calling or being vicious. Of course I am then obliged to respond accordingly. If others start a topic attacking either one of my Alma Maters, no matter which board it is, I will defend it. I have never, ever, ever, ever, ever started a discussion on my other Alma Mater, NEVER.If you are talling about what I think you are talking about, I think you need to reread that entire thread from the start. When reading it, please take off Blue and Gold sunglasses. Also, please be aware that the poster that started the crap on that thread has now edited his post.I could go on much more about that, but there is no need to waste your time or mine. I will just say this, you are terribly wrong. Remember, I didn't start this part of the conversation.I will be done with this part of the thread now as I know it is a no-win situation. Now, if I misinterpreted what you were saying in that opening paragraph, I sincerely apologize. Now onto, the Hakes discussion. You are correct. He did "burn" UA. However, my point was that most transfers say something to that affect. Very few say, "I wasn't good enough", or I didn't want to wait my turn", etc. They "usually" try to place blame on the school they are leaving. These things don't bother me at all. These are 18-19 year old kids. If I was really worried about it and had time, I could probably go to other teams boards where some of our transfers have come from, and find dumb things they have said about their old school too. However, I really don't care. Do you truly believe that all of the transfers UA gets are saying great things about their former schools?
Kind of how some posters are allowed to talk about how teams are so great that we don't stand a chance, but when logical arguments are made to the contrary they get mad about it.The fact is, he transferred, and then was quoted "burning" the University of Akron. "the program was not going in the direction I wanted." That is cry-baby talk for "I don't stand an f-ing chance to start for this team." Or considering he pointed out the receivers leaving, maybe he was fearful of falling to the same fate as Harvey and Lindsay....A little bit of a double standard, don't you think? -
Of course, Akron can't take a break. However, it is starting to sound like some people are starting to get the excuse wagon warmed up.If Akron is improving, like so many of us hope they are, it shouldn't matter if Army is the worst team or the 20th worst team. We should beat them fairly easily..............................................................................................................
I've heard this from self-described CFB "experts" Oooooh, too many times! Army is not a very good team, but to say they're worse than Fla Int, Utah St., Idaho, or half the Sun Belt is absolutely ridiculous. In fact, I'd say Army is better than half the MAC -- that's why Akron canNOT afford to take a break against the Knights.Army is ranked as the worst DI team in the nation. If we don't beat them or struggle to beat them, it doesn't look good for us.

If we really do turn the corner in the next few years, we need to get out of the MAC.
