  1. Hey, I'm not going to claim that OSU doesn't have it's share of jerk-off fans (hello every fanbase in America) but in our defense most of the ass hats have nothing to do with the university. For example, out of all the people arrested after the the '02 riots only ten were OSU students. Because of incidents like that it shouldn't surprise you that we aren't completely fond of those you have dubbed "front runner" fans either. I will welcome anybody who chooses to root for my Alma matter however I'm also quick to chastise them for unsportsmanlike behavior. Those were the same fans flushing the downward horns/ "Go back to North Mexico" comments that K Hoe ended up apologizing for (I won't even get into that BS). That being said, those fans are also not the type to show up in droves to anything other than so-called marquee games. As Akron fans you should have no real problems in going to an Ohio State game unless you plan on drawing the attention of one of the jerks by matching them in obnoxiousness. If you show up prepared to cheer for your team, talk football, and enjoy the day, then 99/100 people you come across will treat you with the utmost respect. I would have no problem with walking around the shoe on game day while wearing an Akron jersey. Finally, if you think negative behavior is limited to Columbus on game day you are crazy. I've been verbally assaulted and had shit thrown at me while wearing my OSU gear at PSU, Wisky (that place is crazy), Michigan (of course), and even Indiana! Funny story, I actually got attacked by a student at Indiana. I mean, Indiana, really.
Believe me, I 100% agree with that. I visit the OSU boards quite often. There a lot of jerks. However, they pale in comparison to the number of good people.Whenever you have a fanbase as big as the BCS schools do, there are always jerks. To call an entire fan base jerks based off a few terrible jerks is the same as hating an entire race or religion of people just because of a few jerks. When you have a stadium that holds 100,000 people, if 2% are jerks, that means there are 2,000 jerks in the stands. If you are of the opposing team, 2000 seems like an awful lot of jerks. However, when you think of it per-capita, it is pretty low. It's just too bad that the jerks seem to be more recognized than the good fans. But that is how we as a soceity see things.Believe me, there are a few class A jerks on this board too. However, I don't look at it as Akron fans are jerks. I look at it as those individuals are jerks.
  2. Frankly, I just continue to be embarrassed that the title of the thread is not spelled right .. it's hard to take a soap box rant seriously when the guy falls off before he starts. :screwks:
Maybe he's Italian.Sound it out like a fake Italian, and you will get it.... :D
  3. Good grief. I'm certainly not in favor of being rude to anyone, but what the heck is wrong with a little smack talk? And as for insulting Columbus Tech, I don't see much wrong with that, either. If what I've seen on this board is truly upsetting to OSU fans, then they need thicker skins, not pity from me.Go ZIPS! :gun: Brutus
There is nothing wrong with smack. However, when someone from another board comes over to discuss the game and is respectful in there posts, it is not always the best time to talk smack.Usually, and this is just my opinion, you talk smack once the visitor starts it. Then it is on. Have at it.But when someone comes over to discuss the game, that is a little rude. There is a difference between smack and attacking. "Some", not all, on this board like to attack.
  4. Honestly...I would rather just play OSU tough and win the MAC. Do you really think it helps our recruiting that much if we beat OSU, but then lose to teams like Buffalo, Temple, etc... and not win the conference or possibly make a bowl game? We need to be a consistent winner to get recruits. Being a 5-7 team that gets a big upset every year doesn't help. Right now we need to win MAC titles and go to bowl games every year while adding an upset here and there. Indiana would do just fine in that regard. If we win the MAC on a regular basis then we need to start popping one of the big boys to take the program to another level.
I agree. If we beat a big time team and then lose to crap, it does nothing for us.Last year we beat NCSU and then played like crap after that.I would rather be 11-1 with the loss being to OSU than be 1-11 with the win being against OSU.
  5. I know this really has nothing to do with this game, but I always hear that the weather makes the game different. I have never really seen it though.Go back, old timers, to red right 88 with the Browns. I remember that the Raiders supposedly were doomed because of the cold weather. I always hear that weather makes a difference. However, I have never seen it affect a game so much that a huge underdog wins.

  6. Really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really looking forward to September 9th.Repetitive, meaningless OSU talk that does nothing but clutter this board -->  :chair:  <--- Me
It won't end there. Some of these guys are so damn insecure that attacking others is what makes them feel good.Have at it boys.............................
  7. OK, here goes. On 4th down from the 19, we line up in the “spread” punt formation. Tressel calls a timeout because his players are laughing too much to focus. After the timeout, the Zippers assume the same formation. The laughter returns, but it’s primarily from the Red and Silver (please do NOT correct me on this, thank you!) fans this time, as Flaherty suddenly snaps the ball to CJ, who has snuck in the lineup as an up back. Meanwhile, Stec darts to his left then pivots 180 degrees and heads to the right flat. The rest of the team follows CJ who is slowly fading to the left side of the backfield. Just as the silver helmeted dudes are closing in (close enough, in fact, so that CJ can view the Appy St. undergarments on each of his pursuers) he heaves the ball with the trajectory of a mortar in the direction of the lonely Stec. John stumbles and bumbles for what seems like the last 10 seconds of the Zip-Redhawk basketball nightmare until the balls somehow lands between his left bicep and his helmet. He’s at the 10 yard line when it looks as though 3 Red and Silver dudes are about to hand the punting chores over to Hildreth for the rest of the season when all of a sudden, in a blaze of Blue and Gold glory, there comes none other than old #40 flying to the rescue. Laube simultaneously clocks the 3 Red and Silver dudes all the way to the Island of Misfit Toys as Stec waltzes into the end zone, untouched!!! Zips win by 4!!! Zips win by 4!!!:cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers:
Outstanding.Anything with a Rudolph the red nosed reindeer reference has to be good.
  8. How many times are we going to see this whole ordeal replayed on these boards? Yes...some of you like OSU and like Akron, some of you love OSU and love Akron, some of you hate OSU and love Akron and some dont give a rats a$$ about OSU and love Akron. I belong to the latter. But here's a clue for those of you that have such a deep hatred of Ohio State: DONT TALK ABOUT THEM ON A ZIPS BOARD!!!!!! Sure, fine, discuss the teams this week when they are opposing eachother on the field, discuss the hell out of them later this fall when we have them at Lee Jackson for Soccer (where we're MORE THAN LIKELY to beat them). Dont piss on other Zips fans just because they follow other teams. As long as AKRON comes first, especially when the two teams are competing on the field, live with the fact that that individual is an Akron fan FIRST. As for me, I'll live in my state of apathy towards the Buckeyes. My parents and my family raised me following Ohio State and for no reason. The second I attended this fine institution that loyalty to the school in Columbus disappeared. If someone asks you the Buckeyes score, avoid ranting about your intense hatred. Say, "You know, I dont really know. I don't follow the Buckeyes, but did you see the Zips beat K.E.N.T. by 35 yesterday?!" Hatred burns more bridges with fellow fans than apathy does. That being said...and just like every week...GO ZIPS!!! BEAT OHIO STATE!!!!I'm sure we'd all love nothing more than to see a Zips win Saturday, regardless of where our secondary loyalty lies. :screwks:

  9. I am as much a of a Frye fan as there is. However, I am also a Browns fan.I know Frye is simply keeping the seat warm until Quinn is ready. You don't draft a QB that high and not plan on playing him.If hte Browns thought Frye was the guy, they never would have drafted Quinn.Hopefully Frye forces them into a Brees/Rivers situation like they had in San Diego. That would be great for Charlie.Unfortunately, I see Frye as a journeyman QB. I see him as having some good games thruout his career, but nothing more than a backup.

  10. Re: Charlie Coles.   It would have been a nice touch if his players wore black armbands  or whatever for the Zips.  But you went further and questioned his sincerity by NOT doing it.   Here again, we see you criticizing people's or entity's character for not doing something unprecedentedly selfless that would benefit Akron.
One thing I truly detest on this board is people who lie about something I said, or anyone else said, to prove a their own BS point. Here is my quote regarding armbands and Charlie Coles (from LAST MARCH, BTW):
What can we do about this? This season, probably nothing. If Charlie Coles was honest in his assessment that "It is a crime if Akron isn't in the NCAA's" then I want to see Miami players with a black armband during their game vs. Oregon. I want Coles to wear one too. Ditto the Toledo players and Stan Joplin. I don't want them to do this for Akron. I want them to do this for the MAC. It will happen to one of them one day if a big, big stink isn't raised. And Miami and Toledo are the only teams with a stage to do so.
I that isn't clear enough for you, and you take my armband suggestion as "unprecedentedly selfless that would benefit Akron" then you are one ignorant dude. Otherwise, you are a liar. It is one or the other. My original post is easily searched on this site. Since you are still obsessed with it 6 months after it was originally posted, you might want to check it out.As an OSU fan, you have no idea what is feels like when the NCAA screws you over. None whatsoever. The rules are all made to suit the BCS schools. Pain? Shock? Outrage? You didn't get to experience any of it. Lucky you.I will give you one opportunity to respond. Then I am locking the thread. If BuckZip wants to give you some cute smilie in support of his lying/ignorant Buckeye bud, I'll let that stand too. I think it is great that you guys stick together.
Why am I being brought up in the conversation?I don't even know what you guys are talking about with this Charlie Coles thing.AS for what it feels like being screwed, I was at the UA/Miami Bball game. When Miami made that lucky last shot, my stomach sank into my knees. My only saving grace was that I "KNEW" UA would at least do well in the NIT.......Imagine my feeling when they were screw out of that chance.Captain, I think that because of your hatred for all things OSU, you hold some unwarranted grudges.I really don't feel the need to apologize for growing up with UA as a DII(JV team)And following OSU. I also don't feel the need to have to apologize for attending, loving and following both of my Alma Maters.Believe it or not, there are people that have attended both Can't and UA. Oh my, shame on them for wanting to be sure they got they education that they wanted. After all, the only thing that should matter is sports when choosing a collegeTo me a frontrunner is a guy born and raised in NE Ohio but becomes a Steeler or Yankee fan for no apperent reason. Not a guy who was born and raised in Akron, Ohio without a major DI sports team, so they decided to follow the "only" major DI sports team there was that they could follow. Then decided to get their graduate degree from a school with a very respected graduate program in that field. There are many reasons that people root for who they root for. Not everyone is a frontrunner because they don't root fot the home team.I really don't understand this animosity. I don't understand why some posters try to drive away the few fans that there are. By constantly attacking, that is what they are doing. I am glad you are locking this thread. No good comes from this constant bickering. I thought this was a sports board.
  11. The beacon posted a little section in todays sports page informing everyone that rydell brooks of akron buchtel ( niagra U) has transfered to the University of Akron........... wow, thats amazing, considering that news is about a week old now. the beacon makes me want to just :chair:
