Alex Ramart is certainly entitled to his opinions.  I may not agree with some of the things he said in his Hustle Belt interview, but that's ok.  I am impressed by his film and I am glad he is coming to Akron.

However, the quote about the supportive fan base was the biggest head scratcher for me because, well. . .actual reality?

What is interesting is that A-Zip comes back out of the woodwork to take a swipe at ZG01 for stating his opinions.  The same A-Zip who started a thread on August  29, 2014 entitled 9100 attendance.  The initial post in the thread?

A-Zip also opined on the very first page of that thread, which by the way, now spans 29 pages:

It's so good to hear from you K92.  Same old ZN.O, people whining and bitching about the same old s%#t..  Glad to see my thread got so much attention, I am quite sure everything I said has come to fruition.  This kid looks good.  Smart of him to promote the Akron fan base whether it is true or not.......no head scratching needed, its just smart.  I guess you would expect him to say this.....................................

“The Zips offer no opportunities to me. They have horrible facilities, an ugly campus, and a non-existent fan base.” Ramart stated to Hustle Belt.

“The school offers none of the programs I want to study. I want to major in kinesiology with a concentration in sport management.” He added on what led him to commit to Akron over opportunities at programs such as Columbia, Northern Colorado, and the University of Incarnate Word to name a few.

While his plans after football played a huge part in his decision, Terry Bowden and the rest of the Akron coaching staff made the choice difficult. “The coaching staff are a bunch of idiots. Coach Milwee and I have no connection whatsoever, I hate his coaching style and he brings nothing to the table. I'm ready to go to work with him as my coach. And of course, Coach Bowden is legendary for being a buffoon.

They really have the program heading in the wrong direction, and I am excited to come in and contribute to bringing Akron to the bottom of the MAC. The offense they run is so different to what I have ran multiple years at my high school, so it should be really difficult to make the transition. I'm taking my official visit the weekend of the 20th in January and I'm super depressed to be an Akron Zip.”

Last season, Ramart, a strong armed, 6’3 210-pound pocket passer, racked up yardage through the air to help lead his Foster High (Richmond,TX) squad to an overall record of 14-1. Throwing just seven interceptions as a senior, he connected on 221 of his 315 passing attempts for nearly 3,500 passing yards and 47 touchdowns.

  2. Bruce Arena will probably get the job (if he hasn't already) but I hope Caleb Porter gets it.  Arena is old and the USMNT needs to move on and gut the old crew.  New/young/successful great coach who identifies with the new talent - there should be no question in my mind who should be the coach.  The only reason Caleb left us was for this pursuit.  Why waste 2 years with Arenas.  ZipME87 - could you imagine who gets invited if Caleb got the job?!?!  Finally put Darlington Nagbe in the playmaking positions he belongs.

I'd like to remind everyone, that this conversation thread is about BOWDEN's success (or lack there of) at Akron.  Not attendance.  Leave all attendance speak to the attendance thread?  Unless it's being used to directly talk about the success or lack of success of Bowden and Co.

Attendance is tied to the success of Bowden and Co from the standpoint of recruiting.  A 4 star + recruit does not want to play in front of 3-4K people.  In the immortal words of Bobby Bowden "It ain't about the Xs and Os......it's about the Jimmy and Joe's"

Another first round loss is now likely.. Not directly because of the opponent but because of how the game will play out and the location. We know how the officiating will go in that place. Most importantly, though, we shoot a ton of threes but are not used to doing it in large cavernous arenas like the one this game will be played in. You can't just get acclimated to the depth perception issue that creates overnight.

wrong!!!!  i stated that KD has taken the team as far as it can go under him!  he's a great coach but need a new vision.

What is this grand vision you describe?  What amazing coaches are beating down the door to coach at Akron?  IF for some strange reason a hot shot coach came in and won as many games as KD (and didn't lose a second championship on a buzzer beater)....how long would that hot shot stay?

Oh and BTW......with your "new vision" dirtyol........say bye bye to Lebron association.....that would be brilliant!!

yep!!!  i think its time for KD to go.  he can only take this team so far.  his postseason record it terrible.  if you put emotion aside and look at facts!  you need a changing of the guard.

41-21 under Marty Shottenheimer with three Divisional Championships

39-57 after  Marty Shottenheimer no Divisional Championships

Oh, and then they left.....went to Baltimore and won a Super Bowl!!

I sure hope you are joking.  What happened to Marty Shottenheimer???  He was a lot more successful than the Browns were after he left!!  You people make me want to puke.  NE OHIO DOOM AND GLOOM.....that is what happens to all of your sports teams....you drag them down.

Be careful there, and please clarify what you are saying.

If you're thinking that there's been any kind of significant growth over the course of the 10 years that we've been winning 21+ games per year, you need to check your numbers.

I think the general consensus here is disappointment over the fact that attendance has relatively stayed about the same (I think it's actually dropped over the last few years?).  If you're seeing something else, please let us know.

    It is sarcasm.

  9. 1-11 seasons were THREE YEAR AGO with a different coach....HE IS GONE.

Now we have Terry Bowden who has been working his ass off to make things happen - using tape and glue to put competitive teams together to play in front of 3,000 people

    In the last 30 games we are 17 W - 13 L.

Of the 13 losses, 4 of those came against ranked/marquis teams - Penn State, Marshall, Oklahoma and Pitt (and some good MAC teams)

We made it to a bowl game and WON!

You all can keep blaming bad Rubber Bowl splintering seats, iCoach, TW, Scarborough, losing seasons, etc etc.  That was a long time ago, success hasn't change anything and likely never will (which is why our b-ball team can't take the next step).

Proenza is the one that made the bad move sinking so much money into a stadium without doing proper analysis to justify it.

There were 9,800 alumni tickets sent out for every game, so the announced total includes that number. My guy in the ticket office tells me that the following totals were what was actually in the stadium this season.

    Pittsburgh, 10,389 actual, 21,840 announced = 11,451 fudge

    Savannah State, 3,562 actual, 15,883 announced = 12,321 fudge

    Ohio, 3,612 actual, 16,718 announced = 13,106 fudge

    Central Michigan, 3,659 actual, 18,568 announced = 14,909 fudge

    Buffalo, 2,458 actual, 15,162 announced = 12,704 fudge

    Can't State, 4,240 actual, 16,134 announced = 11,814 fudge

As you can see, there is a wide variance between actual people in the stadium and the number of tickets they send out. On average its a fudge of 12,717 imaginary fans per game. Pretty depressing numbers. Hard to have any credibility when you are making stuff up like this. Even the Pitt game had more imaginary fans than real fans in the stadium.

Based on the "actual" attendance numbers listed here, if you combined all the actual butts in seats from the ENTIRE year - there would not be enough to fill the Info in a single game.

And people wonder why we don't get better recruits

Another nice article by The Marla.

    EDIT:

And a postgame article by Marla.

    http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/famous-idaho-potato-bowl-akron-23-utah-state-21-zips-secure-first-bowl-victory-in-school-history-1.649321

Apparently the ABJ sent Marla to Boise to cover the game. I'm all for it if Marla is the new Zips' beat writer.

GT gives the impression that not only is he lazy, but that the Zips aren't worth his time.

Was this comment necessary in a sports column

"They seemed genuinely excited about the cross-country trip that filled three planes, at a cost of $200,000 per plane, with 120 players, a 250-member band and the traveling party."
