  1. Man I just watched Temple play cause I try and TiVo all MAC games to see what we are going up against. And man this team is terrible. I you try and use the argument of "New York" Market, we already have Buffalo so that is a mute point. I would rather add Middle Tenesse or Western Kentucky, Navy, anybody but them.

  2. My $1.00 vs his $46.00 (that is what he had in his pocket at the time). Zips lose I lose a "buck" Zips win I win $46.00. Come on Zips!! I live in Columbus and I let it be known that I love my Zips, so all week all I have been hearing is how we are gonna get steam rolled, I am sick of it I want Jabari to have the game of his life and the secondary pick off every pass thrown to Robiskie.

  3. I really think bad weaterh hurts Akron more. With this 3-3-5 defense we can't stop a good running game. If we have the sloppy field added to this, Akron will have problems containing the OSU running game.
You keep saying that the 3-3-5 can't stop the run. How did Penn State run against us?
Penn State didn't have a back like Wells or Saine for that matter.
  4. When we lost to Army, you could kind of see it coming. Army had't won in a while, but they were playing well. And, the weather was terrible. We were pretty ripe for the picking.
The weather may be terrible this weekend in C-Bus. Let's hope for really sloppy conditions where we can pull a fast one.
I think that may hurt us since our strength is passing to Jabari!
  5. It seems like every year we win a game we are suppose to lose and lose a game we are suppose to win. Like beating NC State and lose to Army. This year beat I think we will beat Ohio State and lose to Temple? j/k A more realistic scenario would be we beat Indiana, and UConn and lose to Buffalo. Do you think we are going to win the games we should win? Every year I am overly optimistic about the Zips and Browns and every year I lose years off my life in stress. I expected nothing different. But still cheer with relentless ambition and pride, as a fan and former player I feel we can win every game. Lastly, I want the players to believe they can win if they don't feel that way I don't want them on the team. How can you call yourself a competitor if you don't feel you can win. Go Win and Go Zips!!!

  6. I plan on watching at a place known as "The Horseshoe" in Columbus.  I hear it gets pretty crowded and I'll probably have seats that don't face the TV......bummer.
Woot. That's where I'll be. Here's to me not getting my ass kicked and set on fire after the Zips win.
    I'll second that
  7. Ahh. The 1993 opener. When Alcorn kicked the 56 yard field goal to beat Toledo in our first game in the MAC. Great memory. For those commenting on the DL, I'm not hearing anyone mention the lack of a pass rush. We only got pressure on the QB when multiple LBs and DBs blitzed.
Yeah that ain't good you shouldn't have to damn near bring the house to get some heat on the QB.
  8. Akron has a lot of film to work with against a competitive team. OSU's backups were in for so long that the starters won't improve as much by watching film. OSU will rely on their talent and depth to overcome any challenge by Akron, but I get the feeling that Akron is deeper talent-wise at more positions than we have been in a long time. Here's hoping that the Zips at least make it interesting.
We are deeper except at WR. Our WR corps, other than Jabari, is, well I can't think of the right term.....Let's just say that no team is going to worry about us beating them deep.
I agree Jabari is good but he still drops too many passes IMO that he should catch. Granted he did make some spectacular catches but he dropped some easy ones too. And is it me or did they go to him alot in the game none of the other wideouts got any meaningful reps.
  9. do you think there will be so many people attending this air show that we shouldn't set up tailgating in that area..I mean if the Indians are in first place and can't fill the stadium and there have been reports that we are laggy in ticket sales, am I nieve in thinking there won't be that many "cars" in the parking lot for the air show. I have 7 people that aren't arriving to my tailgate until 5:00.

  10. Like skip-zip, I was a pessimist in regards to this game.  It looks like maybe 15k-18k.  My reasons are many, and I'll try to keep them brief.1. Read either today's BJ or PD and you'll see that we are living in the midst of a poverty area.2. People have less $'s for entertainment than they have in the past.  Look at last night's Indians game.  You have a team that is 1st place at the end of August and you can't even fill the place.3. Air Show4. Indians game.5. Taste of ClevelandI could probably mention 5 more events, but why?I said it when this was announced and I'll say it again, "This s--ks!!!" :mad_flame:
Those are all legit excuses. And that is what they are is excuses. We all want this program to become big time. However, until we get people in the community excited and going to games it will never happen. There is so little support for this team that it depresses me. :( Look at this board if you want to see how little support there is. This is the only UA board. However, there are only a handful of us that post regularly. The rest just stop by once in a while. It's f'ing game week, and this place is a ghost town. :mad_flame: Sure the Tribe didn't sell out, but they still got a pretty decent crowd. There is now ay I would expect UA to sell out Brown stadium, but there is no excuse not to have at least 25,000. It is the first game of the season. People are hungry for football. I was watching high school games on TV with teams I don't even know just to try to satisfy my football fix.The new stadium will help. However, the novelty will wear off after a few years. If the team doesn't start to win we will be right back to where we are now. When I say win, I don't mean 7-5 or even 8-4. I mean 10-2 or 9-3 on a down year.Yeah, that is expecting a lot. However, that is what winning programs do. We consider 7-5 a good year. At big time schools, coaches get fired for that.
Buckzip as usual you speak the truth but it will be difficult to keep any coach that goes 9-3 10-2 consistently at the MAC level. I agree we should have higher standards but i feel this programs main problem is retention of scholarship athletes. Correction retention of our top recruits.
  11. The first ever "Patriot Bowl" will take place as Akron hosts Army at Cleveland Browns Stadium (capacity: 73,079) on Saturday. Unfortunately, reports are that ticket sales are seriously lagging for this one and the Patriot Bowl may wind up being one of the more poorly attended games this weekend in the MAC. :wall:
Are you really surprised? I am glad I didn't get my hopes up. And to think we are one of the schools that's closest in proximity. Well the hell with it I am still going and I am still going to tailgate even if I am in the wrong lot by myself. Go Zips Blow these suckaz out the water!!!!
  12. I was thinking we need one...Notre Dame has the walk, some school has students jumping into a river for a swim, cocktail parties, etc. We don't have a river but I could bring a slip n slide!! My friend laughed hysterically at me and said that was ridiculous. But imagine if it did take off and you see moms, dads, students, breaking hips trying to slide down that thing. Memorable moments: During a televised game on ESPN Mack rodes slides down the "Zip Strip". Now i know what most people are thinking man did you go to that Can't game a couple years ago do you know how cold it gets in Akron in October. But as a "ZIPS FAN" I was thinking where the hell am I gonna get that long of a hose and how do I keep the water from freezing? :D

  13. I disagree with Conference USA being better than the MAC...East Carolina, Tulsa and Houston are "normally" bottom 100 teams.  Central Florida I think is on the rise with their new stadium and lying George O'Leary as a coach but Central and Marshall in my opinion didn't dominate the MAC when they were here.  Southern Miss is the only one I can see being a consistent top finisher.  Even Memphis has fallen way off since the bowl game.
I disagree on Marshall not dominating the MAC. Most recently, Marshall was in the MAC from 1997 (When they came up from 1-AA) until 2003. During that 7 year span, they went 48-8 (.857) in the MAC, and 73-13 overall. They also won the MACC in 97, 98, 99, 00, 02 and were runners up in 01.It would be very tough for anyone in the MAC to match that run. And those numbers only got them into CUSA...
I stand corrected...damn they won that many?!!...I mean they were good but I didn't think they were any better than BGSU, Toledo, or Miami
  14. Man we are gonna be scattered all over the place some in the pit, some by the stadium, some by the courtyard, some back in Akron some, in lake Erie. I just wanna be where there is gonna be an abundance of zips fans partying getting hype for the game. I talkin kids throwing the football around while dad grills his BBQ trying to hide his beer in a cozy.

  15. C-USA is better than the MAC. Tulsa, Houston, East Carolina, Marshall, UCF and Southern Miss would all be a top 2 or 3 team at the worst in the MAC. UCF has stepped it up A LOT since they left the MAC and I am sure Marshall's recruiting hasn't gone down by the switch. We have no shot at the Big Ten. If they add another team it will be in an unserviced market to get more tv exposure, etc... That is why they have talked about adding schools such as Missouri and even Rutgers. Rutgers has the largest market in the country in NY, and being a member of the Big Ten would surely help their recruiting.I think the Big East is our only real shot at moving out of the MAC unless a team or 2 such as UCF moves out of C-USA to join the Big East. I could see us moving up to C-USA.

  16. Here's a good tailgating tip.If you're looking to save some bucks...don't buy those over-priced tailgating flagpoles you see on some of the Web sites. Here's what I did...go up to Home Depot or Lowes, buy a telescoping pole that you clean windows with and use that as your flag pole.Simple and costs about $25 instead of the $90 to $125 they charge on the Web. In addition, you can hoist that baby about 20 feet into the air.Now lets see those Blue & Gold colors waving in the wind!!!zipsflag.gifAK_Oldies_new_wht_r1_c1.jpg
Now that's what I am talk'n bout!! Thanks..and the cool part is my wife works at Home Depot, so you know i will have one tomorrow. :thumb:
