WOW that was close. HOLY COW!!! So, anyone who doubts Meves can remove that after tonight!! Wow, that guy was awesome at the end!!
-
Wow, they are turning it up!!!

We seem to be getting a lot of calls going our way. I'm far from knowledgable on soccer, but the crowd seems to be an influence.
-
Steve F just confirmed that they will be moving the field in the off season. Stadium for the soccer team is in motion. Good!
-
Crowd looks great. Last match I watched was the OSU match a few months ago and the video is much better and Tulsa looks much better than the Buckeyes . OSU almost never had the ball, but Tulsa seems somewhat competent when they do get the ball.

Man, Steve F. was in Huston last night and is in Akron today.
-
I can't wait to see pics of the crowd at the game. I was on campus today and they put some serious seating on the west end of the field behind the goal! Looking at the soccer stadium from the student center, that thing is tiny, especially for a team that has become a national power. All I can say is they need to find a way to get that new soccer stadium built! I agree with others, they need to find a way to put seating behind both goals!.

Bullseye.+1Let's also keep in mind that there are other facilities dedicated to many of these athletes on scholarship, and they have to do with helping them meet those basic grades. This is so all that money spent on THEIR weightroom has a chance at giving them results on the field. Yep, many of those same athletes in the "revenue" sports used to sit there, goofing off in study table while "struggling" through University college. They are given free school, free room and board, the best facilities and many still manage to screw it up! Seriously, WHY should those of us paying for our school (and theirs) who were battling through a technical degree be able to use those facilities! We don't mean anything to the University or community as a whole! How amazingly narrow minded!

For some reason, Dan wanted those of us on the shooting team to bulk up like the football players....I never understood that. I explained to him that I was looking for endurance and that we had very expensive fitted outfits and we can't just go pack on 20 lbs of muscle. He didn't push this approach however and was happy to just answer our questions and tolerate us while we were in the weight room. He's been there a while.

I would like someone with a solid defensive background. I've always felt that MAC schools have been able to put up points, but their opponents just put up more. I think a great D could go a long way. Also, I don't like the idea of grabbing a washed up BCS head coach. If they weren't successful at a bigtime program, what makes you think they will have success recruiting and developing players with "lesser" talent in the MAC? Give me someone on the rise. A tough find, but look at what Brian Kelly did for CMU....well worth it even after they leave.

I too like the fact that he reaches out to the fans with Youtube. It does make you feel like your opinion matters, though in the end it isn't really a factor. Personally, I hope he isn't listening to the fans as most of us dedicate the vast majority of our efforts into things other than building a D1 program. Leave those decisions to the people who have the background, time, and resources to do the job correctly.

All of them. The overall athletic talent on this team is good enough to win in this sorry league if it wasn't for the mismanagement of the coach. The problem is the talent was used in the wrong way because JD's strategies were destined for failure. Using different schemes will bring out the talent in the team. It happens frequently. A good swift kick in the ass from the new coach will do wonders for the kids as well. When Owens was fired, my biggest concern was the lack of talent on the team (Owens would have had one more 6-5 year under his belt and then the wheels would have fallen off). JD had to come in and clean house. Most were so bad they couldn't even make Ashland win their conference after transferring there. The new guy won't have to do that. JD left enough talent behind to win in the MAC....the next guy needs to win sooner rather than later.I hope you're right. It makes me wonder why JD did better with LO guys than his own?
-
Seems JD had nothing but positive comments for Akron on his way out. Who knows, maybe he is a bit relieved it is over. Regardless, thanks JD for your effort, I firmly believe you did your best and that is all one can do. Good luck in the future!

Appears that this is a critical time for Dr. P and his administration as it would appear he may be hitting his first crisis. We have a new stadium in which (I believe) we didn't bring in enough fans to cover the debt payment. We have a new and unproven AD at the helm who is making his first coaching choice. It TW blows this thing, the shine will be off ICS by the time we get another crack at this thing and you can be sure Dr. P will be taking some heat for figuring out how we will pay for ICS. Well, Dr. P has been pretty impressive so far, so let's hope it goes well!

I would imagine that either Rogers or Nicely will split. Rodgers is banged up, but was the starter at one point so I imagine he won't want to take a back seat to a younger player. It may be a bit of a waiting game for these players to see how the new coaching staff reacts and what the other player does. Oh, that reminds me, I hope the new coach can bring in players who stay long enough for us to learn their names....we seemed to have a high turnover with JD
-
Early on JD won the games he was supposed to, and then won some he wasn't supposed to. We had this "How can we win this one" mentality that somehow died after the NC State game.... I have a lot of respect for,JD as a person and as we are all aware he put 100% of what he had into this program. It just wasn't happening....good luck in the future.

Why schedule a game for 2:00 on a Friday?
Zipsrifle replied to MaxZIP's topic in Akron Zips Football
Yeah, you gotta love that about small-time, front-running, apathetic Akron residents, and I can get away with saying that because I live in the city!Yes, there was a lot of red, but I think about 1/3 of what you were referring to were OSU fans, the rest were people just wearing what they had to stay warm! -
New Parking Garage on Exchange
Zipsrifle replied to scottditzen's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I've looked at that thing several times over the season and I have to agree that I could have been put in a better place. Why didn't they put it down by the RR tracks or something? I mean, Wolf's Ledges is a main drag that seems under utilized. I totally agree that more parking is needed, but who wants to look out of their shiny new dorm room at a monstrous parking deck? -
Well, IMO the guy has had his time to build the program, made some mistakes, and was given more time. We are nowhere near where we should be, time for something new. Things will be a mess for a year with recruits and existing players, etc. It will be the same if he stays, we win 2 games next year and we fire him then. JD is a very talented guy, he'll be fine. Actually, he'll probably be making more money then I will next year (that's not saying much) even if he does get canned!EDIT: Actually, I know he will be making more money as he still has 1 year on his contract....but you get the picture!

Things Zips fans can be thankful for
Zipsrifle replied to MDZip's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
An administration that realizes that just because students are competing in a sport with guns, they aren't trying to kill people. Furthermore, they are willing to stand behind this type of competition, regardless of the uninformed public opinion, because it attracts quality student athletes to the university, benefiting the University as a whole. Thank You! -
Show me an AD who would be able to fill a stadium for a team that ONLY has one D-1A win over Cant state and a win over a Morgan State. He is not miracle maker.Though I agree he wouldn't be able to fill the place on Friday, blindly sending out extra tickets 2 days before the game to the season ticket holders barely qualifies as trying, and appears more like desperation, on his part. I don't expect miracles, but I do expect something better than this!
-
I have to say I don't know who came up with this idea, but it is a dumb idea. We have a shiny new stadium and we are already giving away tickets. Maybe we could have tried to advertise??? So far, TW hasn't been impressive with filling the stadium. Wasn't that one of his primary objectives???
-
I think we should try putting as many home games as possible early on in the season. First, the weather is good which means more fans. Second, we will still have a shot at going to a bowl for most of these games. Of course this is purely related to attendance and if we were to just win we wouldn't need to worry about this.

Why schedule a game for 2:00 on a Friday?
Zipsrifle replied to MaxZIP's topic in Akron Zips Football
All valid points. I'll be there, cheering for a win. I'm really sick of the MAC office screwing the fans with this National TV crap! -
Man, was I wrong!!!! Some crap about not wanting to ruin the opening season of the Info....throw that out the window..... I think it's time for something new.
