Anybody else think the talent on the D just isn't there and we'll just need to out gun our opponents this year?
-
Put me in the same "1/2 full" mindset. I see it this way: Entirely new coaching staff means that there is a learning curve for these guys and I have to believe we are still on our way up this curve. First game, blowout but much more exciting than any iCoach game. Second game, nail biter that goes into OT. Next two weeks will probably be up and down. I expect we will put up a LOT of points on Morgan State and then Tennessee will bury us but we will continue to move up the curve. I really see Miami as a good litmus test, a MAC School in our place. Yes, Wins and Losses are all that matter nationally, but are we REALLY in the hunt right now for anything? I'll take continued improvement 'cause that will eventually turn into wins.

This may be the longest thread in the history of the internet on Akron Weather.....

I too was glad to see things moving in the right direction. I am a bit worried about our D, we couldn't stop the run and gave up at least two huge pass plays for TD's. Hopefully Chuck can remedy the issue. I agree with whomever stated that we've got the most stability at QB since Getsy. DW runs the O well. One thing people haven't mentioned is that I thought the receivers went up and aggressively got the ball tonight. It seems in the recent past, if a ball was up for grabs, a Zip probably wasn't going to come down with the ball. Tonight, I thought we went up and got those balls. We did have too many drops, but I think those will go away by the end of the season. So, in general, I'm pleased. We may give up a lot of points, but I think we're gonna also score a LOT of points. I expect we will continue to make improvement as the season and I have to say, I think we'll be in prime condition to catch a MAC school off guard and have a big game at home.

Let me give this a shot: "Well, it's the process. We need to follow the process and, it's gonna take time. We need to work hard. I expect us to do our best. If we follow the process, and work hard, good things will happen. I have high expectations of our team. We have a plan. We need to execute the plan. If we do that.....we'll be ok."

Lets play some games before we start worrying about our coaches leaving.

I think we are on the same page. I'm saying we use it to promote UofA, NOT to get money.

I think what I really like about this is that it seems nobody is really out of the race when the season begins. The performance level is consistent across the conference. In the BCS Conferences, you pretty much know who is in the hunt. In the MAC, you have had Akron and Buffalo (perennial cellar teams) break out and win the conference out of nowhere in the past decade. Sure, you'll have consistently good teams like NIU and Toledo, but you also have teams like Ohio and Temple who build their programs to go from whipping boy to powerhouse. Here is to hoping Akron can become one of the latter.

I would think we would let any school use the design with one caveat: They would have to credit the University of Akron for the logo. Now I'm not exactly sure the manner in which to credit the university, but the premise is that the students and their parents CLEARLY know the logo originated at UA. This would be one manner in which to promote UA that would cost the University nothing.

2012 Miami RB hoping to land at Akron
Zipsrifle replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Same here. I was REALLY bummed when Winters didn't take the job but very optimistic with our future right now. Here's to hoping both coaches continue their winning ways. -
I have a HUGE amount of respect for those players that have stuck around through this mess. These are the kind of people you want on your side. It is so common now for people to jump ship the minute things get rough. These kids have a bright future ahead of them, regardless of where they go.

Yep. Copy (last year) + Paste = 90% of fans won't know he difference. IMO, if you really want to know what is going on in MAC football, your best bet is to hit the fan pages. In fact, I suspect that this is the first stop for many "Local" news outlets when they are doing research. The big time guys are just too lazy to wade through all the comments to find the details. Personally, I kind of like it this way.

Zips football: Nearing the grind's end
Zipsrifle replied to GeorgeThomasABJ's topic in Akron Zips Football
Never forget that game. My Daughters first Zips game at just over 1 yr old. Trying NOT to get my @$$ kicked as I held her and walked out of the stadium. -
tarry : (to linger in expectation)
-
If I remember that Can't game in 2003 correctly, we were pretty good, Can't was pretty good, and both were likely to contend for the East. It was our rival and the first game of the year. Everything was on the line, right out of the gate. That loss hurt the worst in my 18 years as a Zip fan.
-
Put me down for 3 wins as well. TB is looking for 2, we exceed his expectations by one. I think it will take 2-3 years to get this thing headed in the right direction. Time will tell.
-
So, I thought they had multiple Zippys. At least that is what I was told a few years ago. I'm calling FAKE on the strike thing.
-
I just want to be entertained for once. The past two years have been so depressing! Just make it close at some point in the 3rd and I'll be happy.
-
No way this game sells out. TB has a name but not THAT big or a name in NE Ohio. Now if they ran a promotion (Meet Jim Tressel at Infocision Staidum) they would be yelling "OH-IO" as 20,000 sheep mindlessly flock to the stadium thinking OSU is playing an exhibition game. On another note, I don't know much about UCF, and given the past two years, I am just hoping to see some entertaining football. The last two years was the most boring football I have ever seen in my life. Starting to get excited!

Put me in the: "Keep the current uniforms and just win games" camp. Any coach can tell a recruit "and we're looking into new Uniforms!" and that should be enough. We've changed uniforms enough in the past that it is believable. P.S. I like the wingfoot idea. Maybe put the logo on the socks or something.

Rubber Bowl is Sold to USFL - Akron Franchise
Zipsrifle replied to K-Roo's topic in Akron Zips Football
I've always thought that "zeppelins" would be a good name, especially with the Airdock right there. Technically, a Zeppelin is different than a blimp, but I don't think that really matters. Besides, you could play lots of Led Zeppelin music at the games. -
Elton Alexander picks Zips dead last in MAC East
Zipsrifle replied to johnnyzip84's topic in Akron Zips Football
I remember his review of the stadium on opening day. He complained how unsightly the view was behind the east grandstand. Really!? The 20,000 people in the seats below you can't see that, only those in the pressbox. A sign of how disconnected from the fans he is. -
I don't know if it is TB or just the ease in which you can post media on the internet, but there has been an explosion of coverage for Zips FB here in the past few weeks. I've had a hard time keeping up. I'm starting to get excited, but then again, it is preseason and the sky is the limit. This thought went through my mind the other night: 4th season at InfoCision and we're on our 3rd coach. I feel pretty good that TB will turn this thing around but given all the turnover, I feel I have no gauge as to how we may do this season. At this point, it seems to me that the offense is still going to be a struggle. Given the drastic change from last year, and how well we did last year, I guess this is to be expected. I feel good about having Chuck running the D and I think they will continue to be the stronger side of the ball. I have to say that having all this coaching experience on the field makes me feel that we can finally start building the program. Should be a fun season.

Zips QB Clayton Moore will transfer
Zipsrifle replied to GeorgeThomasABJ's topic in Akron Zips Football
I feel like I'm standing in the middle of a train wreck. I expect some of this, and I believe TB knows what he is doing, so yet another year of sitting in the stands hoping to be surprised. Now, what are our options at QB?
