  1. Great Post!
  2. I'm not sure I'd put us in the OU range right now. I haven't seen any dramatic improvements from the team that got spanked by NIU. The running game has improved but I account some of that to the weakness of the opponents defense. The passing game seems to be stagnant, not a good sign with a star QB. Actually, I guess there is one area where we have made some dramatic improvements, that would be the Defense. I don't believe that Buffalo's running game or UCF offense was that bad. We did an excellent job against them and somehow managed to contain Cribbs. Before I say that we're on level with OU or Miami, I'm going to have to see a big running game tomorrow along with a big passing game with no Defensive let down. If we blow out BSU on this one, I'll put us in the OU, Miami category. If not, I'm afraid it won't be pretty against Marshall. There was a big letdown for me at the beginning of the year and it's going to take some convincing to make me feel that we are an average team and not just a Good Bad team. Remember, BSU and the teams we've beat are all either on the Bottom 10, on the waiting list, and are ranked near the bottom everywhere else. All I'm hoping for is continued improvement. I'm out...on the road back to Ohio, see everyone at the game tomorrow.
  3. Weren't we supposed to be a layup 2 years ago?
  4. Well, the Zips faced a VERY tough opponent this past weekend. Navy finished 3rd last season and missed 2nd by a scant 3 points in the Championship match. The Zips shot fairly well, setting new record in Air Rifle. The Zips fell short of Navy by about 100 points. Of course, if coach would pick the right team, they would have only lost by 60. (By the way, Coach has to pick the teams prior to the match) Here's the Article: Date: October 16, 2004 Location: The University of Akron Event: Akron -vs- Navy Navy Marksmen Sail Past Akron Laura Kuntz sets new school record The Zips sharpshooters hosted the US Naval academy for the first home rifle match of the season. The midshipmen are considered one of the top rifle teams in the nation and lived up to their reputation as they finished ahead of both of the Zips squads. Navy marksman Matt Albright lead the pack in both smallbore rifle and air rifle by posting an amazing score of 591 with both rifle’s. But Akron was right on his heels with the help of outstanding performances like the 586 in air rifle fired by Zips sophomore Laura Kuntz. This exceptional score is the new school record for 60 shot air rifle. “Laura is just beginning to realize what she is capable of accomplishing.†states head coach Newt Engle, “Laura is a team leader in many ways and has earned this honor through good old fashion hard work.†Not to be overlooked is the strong performances of several of Laura’s teammates who posted air rifle scores in the solid 570’s. In the smallbore division Akron’s Sarah Kramer (578) lead the Zips squad with her best performance of the season. And firing in the solid 570’s was team captain Joe Milano and junior Angie Engle. “This team keeps getting stronger and stronger with each passing day.†states coach Engle, “The team is just beginning to realize their potential.†The Zips will have a week off before they travel to Purdue University to compete in the Boilermaker Invitational tournament on October 30th. 5. I am, as much as anyone, hoping that there will be a MAC E #2 vs#1 showdown on Fri, Nov. 5th at the Rubberbowl. Is there a better opportunity this season to show off the new Zips? Well, folks.....first things first. Let me start by saying that I'm sure that JD and the team is NOT overlooking BSU. From what I've seen, JD is very buisness like and keeps preaching one game at a time. There is absolutely no reason to not to give 100% focus to BSU this week, since we'll have 2 weeks to prep for Marshall. As we all know, the Zips have been blasted by the good teams and have simply won against the really bad teams. I have a feeling that when this weeks ESPN bottom Ten come out, all the teams we've won against are on it. A breakdown this week sends everything into the crapper I haven't looked at BSU much yet, but I don't expect an easy win. I'm just hoping for continued improvement, like we've seen all year. If we can do that, we should be able to win this game. I still think we've got a LOT of work to do if we want to be competitive in our last 3 games. Lets make this game a stepping stone and we'll move on from there.
  6. I dug up a little bit more info some time back, but I won't bore you with the details. Here's the Link. Origin of the "Zips" nickname
  7. Hmmmmm, well, I was a bit off last week. Does Marshall have a chance? Well, I'd say NO, if it were the Bills. But, it's the Bulls and I think MU will win this one easily.
  8. Big Zip, you hit the nail on the head. Stinking Urinal has an AP article on the Zips and a staff article on the Buckeyes and Marshall....I mean Can't. PD had a sports network article on the Zips. Funny thing is that under "Local Sports Stories, I had to scroll down to the 15th article to find the Zips. We were behind Columbus Crew and the High School football articles. Well, so much for "Local".
  9. Comment from UCF board. Give Akron a little credit. Their defensive front gave our boys fits all night. The sent minimum of 5 guys every down (often 6 and 7) and were doing some crazy stuff up front. Their D line and linebackers had pressure on Moffet all night long. I can't believe Moffet actually got some of those passes off. Nice job D!
  10. One more thing. First, I do give UCF credit for playing a tough, clean game. Second, I'm not one to gloat or rub it in, but I can't let this go without saying my peace. I couldn't be happier with tonights outcome, for one reason. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I hate UCF . Unlike some of our other opponents (Can't, Buffalo), who I hope have successful seasons after we defeated them, I hope UCF goes 0-11 this year. Why? I was extreamely insulted with their attitude their first year in the MAC and with some of the comments that their former coach made. In addition, whether it is true or not, I have always gotten the impression that UCF felt they were far superior to their MAC compeition. Their invitation to CUSA, though it is a good fit for them, I feel only fueled their superiority complex. So, welcome to the land of the bottom feeders. In fact, you are now THE bottom feeder. I know you've heard it a million times this season, but so much for running the table in the MAC. When I heard that statement, I think I wished for this day! Glad to see your school be embarrassed and your fans feeling our pain. I don't feel the least bit sorry for you, since the teams you were going to dominate, have taken you behind the woodshed and given you a good beating. Don't let the door hit you on the on your way out. I'm sure once you move into CUSA, you'll just take your program to the basement where I hope you stay for a few years. I just love it when someone who talks a lot of smack falls hard. I just hope that at some point in the future, when your program pulls itself out of the crapper, your program and fans remember this moment and are gracious when you know you're going to beat up on someone. Nice job Zips, Revenge is sweet, even if it's just for me.
  11. Though I do think it is a little arrogant, it wouldn't suprise anyone if they made it there. Can't say I blame them for expecting to get there.
  12. Great game guys! Seems we were firmly in control till the 4th. It always seems to happen that way. Well, we won the turnover battle and made them PAY for a few of those mistakes. That was the key to this game! Sounds like Biggs had a Biggs game, 150 yds rushing, 35 receiving. Hixon had 4 catches for 84 yds. Frye, 14 for 24 169yds. I think we might be turning the corner here. Last year vs. Can't, we blew it. Last year vs. UCONN, we blew it. Outside of the MTSU loss, we've been ahead in 2 close games at the end and held the opposing team from upsetting us. Even if we got lucky, it's this type of thing that makes me think that the ship might be turning. We seem to be steadily improving every week. NICE JOB ZIPS!!!
  13. I think we have just set a record. 63 posts in less than an hour!
  14. Oh MAN, We sure try to give it away don't we. I guess the good thing is that in the past, we were on the losing end of these. Dare I say that the ship might be turning?!! NICE JOB ZIPS!!!! Thanks a TON GUYS! I'm going to the rest of the games so you won't have to feed me this any more. I guess I'll have to break down next year and buy the sports pass. That, or they need to increase the signal so it reaches to Michigan
