Well folks, I too am optimistic for the game this week. I think the key in the past couple weeks for the Zips has been our ability to hold onto the ball and the inability of our opponents to do the same. I am hoping that this is due to the Akron Defense having a nose for the ball. If that is the case, then should be a good show on Sat. If Miami holds onto the ball though, it's gonna be rough. Even last week the Defense didn't shutdown the Bobcats offense. In addition, we weren't able to march down the field at will and score. We seemed to take a few steps backwards last week on pass protection and tackling as well. In order for us to stay in the game this week we'll need to wrap up on the Defense and take care of Frye. Biggs was semi-effective last week, it would be nice to see him roll up some big numbers this week. Our receivers will need to find their hands earlier as well. Don't get me wrong, I do honestly believe that the Zips can win this game, but we'll need to keep up the week to week improvement pace. If we don't make an improvement, we'll only be able to win if Miami coughs the ball up at opportune times. If we do make improvements, then we should be able battle Miami the entire game. We've got home field advantage, the underdog status, and a "Find a way to win" attitude. In years past everyone in the country would have already confidently chalked up a Zips loss in this game. This year, everyone is keeping the chalk in their pocket till the fat lady sings. I WANT TO CHARGE THE FIELD ONE MORE TIME! Go Zips!

Very confusing. I'm just guessing that telling the story of this season might get more students to the game than a thesis on the MAC Bowl situation. I'm into this stuff and found that article boring, probably put a few student at Robs to sleep in their mashed potatoes

Right now, perfect world means pounding Miami at the Bowl! Go Zips!
-
My guess is that even if they did trash the press box, you probably couldn't tell. I'm with Cap'n too, stay away from the MU coaches....hopefully the goal post doesn't fall that direction.
-
Just down the road from where I work. What time is the game, I might have to leave a little early to cheer on the Zips? I don't know anything about Soccer though. Is it OK to be very obnoxious like I am at football games?

How do you make Redhawk cookies? Put them in a (Rubber) Bowl and beat for 3 hours. -
4 One to screw in the lightbulb and three to brag how they did it just as well as an ivy league school.

Oh, one more thing, they are "Rallying the Troops" to come to the RB.....should be lots of open seating on the Miami side.
-
They are whining about this over on the Miami board. Though I wasn't there last year, I was there when "Touchdown Travis" broke the TD record. I think this was one of the times LO complained to the MAC and then....LO got in reprimanded I'll tell you what, it was such an obvious block in the back that even the "Blind to the Zips" Cleveland TV News ran a clip of it saying how amazing the blown call was. I have a feeling that the MAC officials will be on our side this game, I mean, Miami will be kicked out of DI-A soon since nobody goes to their games anyway. The Cleveland Media STILL knows MU gets the calls

Notice how Can't leads Akron in every catagory and how Marshall leads Akron in every catagory except one. Both teams lost by narrow margins to the Zips. Hopefully this is a trend. Yea, yea, NIU leads us everywhere too, but 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

WOW! I know it's hard for everyone else to get excited about rifle, but the guys and gals are really on a roll! In the last match the Zips set 16 personal best scores. The come back this weekend and set 15 NEW personal best scores! In addition to this, not one, but TWO of the UA shooters accomplished a feat that I have never been associated with while I was shooting...a perfect target in standing. To put this in perspective, it's kinda like dunking from the foul line, VERY few people can do it. I nor anyone I've known has even came close to a 100 in SB Standing in practice let alone a match. Keep up the good work! Rifle Team Re-Writes the record book in Philly Kramer and Elmore lead the charge In all team sports it is nice when one or more of the team members has an exceptionally good day. However, it a rare day when the entire team is at their best. But for the Zips rifle team, having the entire team have a good day appears to be the expected norm. This was evident when the team busted four school records, as well as setting 15 new personal best scores. This elevated performance catapulted both the Gold and the Blue Zips rifle teams ahead of The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia rifle team. To shoot a perfect shot requires the athletes to hit a dot smaller than the head of a pin, in the center of a target. Each target is worth 10 points with 10 targets on a card, worth a total of 100 points. Earning a perfect score of 100 is the goal of all rifle athletes. The Zips made the task of achieving perfection look common place with five athletes earning 100’s in the prone position. And if that was not good enough, Senior Sarah Kramer and Freshman Martha Carpenter repeated the perfect performance in the kneeling position. As a rule of thumb, the further an athlete is from the ground, the harder it is to achieve high scores. Freshman hotshots Martha Carpenter and Stephanie Elmore must not have been told how rare it is to shoot perfect 100’s from the standing position. Both of these new Zips achieved this milestone performance at this match. Worth noting is the fact teammate Sarah Kramer and Laura Kuntz were knocking on the door with a pair of 99’s. Elmore’s six target total of 582 lead the Zips squad and tied her with Michelle Bauer of USP as match winners. In smallbore rifle the match was all Zips. Senior Team co-captain Joe Milano was on the mark by nearly tying the school record with his new personal best score of 582. But teammate Sarah Kramer helped rewrite the book with her new personal best and new school record of 585 out of a possible 600. Not to be overlooked is the phenomenal 580 posted by freshman Martha Carpenter. “What can I say!†exclaimed coach Newt Engle, “Without exception, every member of the team shot great. It is a coaches dream.†On November 20th the Zips will be host to the Morehead State University Eagles from Morehead Kentucky. The match will start at 9am in room #7 of Shrank Hall South. I guess the first thing I found amazing is how well we traveled to the game. Though our numbers weren't huge, there were a pretty good number of Akron fans there. I've been trying to make one away game every year (outside of Can't State). This was the best showing I've seen in the past 5 years. The offense was slow in starting. We really never got our running game going, but I'll tell you what, Biggs sure works for every yard. Dan seemed to get more carries too, it was nice to see him smash through some people with the ball. Ringer got most of the carries in the 4th. At the beginning of the game, the passing game wasn't clicking that well. Mostly it was because Frye was off on his throws. Once he got it going though, man, he's awesome. How he sees so much of the field, I'll never know. It was just like a flushback from last week when he found Long in the corner of the endzone in the 4th. He was running left, then right, and you knew he was going to make something happen. When it wasn't there he NEVER made a bad decision. Either tossed it out of bounds grabbed whatever yards were available or wrapped the ball up and went down with it. I think we took a few steps backwards with the OL and the tackling against OU. Thank God they couldn't hold onto the ball and that Dwayne had a career day. Frye was again running all over the field. OU got so much pressure that there were many times the receivers weren't even close to being done with their routes when the play was busted. There were also way to many times when an OU player would be in the backfield uncontested. Biggs took a hell of a hit at the end of the game due to this. As for the Defense, it was similar to the MTSU game w/r to the tackling..we weren't wrapping up. If we would have wrapped up like we have been doing in the last couple games, this one wouldn't even have been close. We got burned early on the kickoff return due to this. We had lots of trouble on kick returns at the beginning but got it together in the end. We did get good pressure on the QB and Dwayne's forced fumble in the third was awesome, he just batted it right out of Hawk's hand. Overall it was a good solid win. We put together a good drive when down by 13 and Dwayne's INT turned the momentum. When we needed to have a drive that took the wind out of their sails in the 4th and ate a lot of time, we got it. If there was any letdown from the Marshall game, it lasted about 1-1/2 quarters. Listening to the post game show driving out of Athens, we still aren't getting any respect. Lots of "Well, the 5 turnovers define the game" and "the team we played today had most of their wins against some of the countries worst teams." "If, If, If". Even predicted that we really didn't have much of a chance to make it to the MACC game. Frankly, I like being underestimated. Well folks, if you told me 2 months ago that we would be playing for the MAC East Championship, I would have told you that you were smoking crack. JD has done an excellent job with this team and the players have always believed! I doubted that we could take Marshall and frankly, was preparing for a letdown against OU. They proved me wrong! I really think we've got a shot to knock off Miami at the Bowl this weekend. It'll be tough, but this team now has me thinking that we've got what it takes. Lets hope for good weather. The biggest game in Ohio this weekend takes place in Akron! Bring on the Spoiled Brats!

I'll throw in some cash. Any idea how much a banner costs?

Right Z-P. We need to be focused and get ready for the game this week. I think tomorrow I'll start preparing by pulling the grill out of the shed and practice flipping burgers. Then, after lunch, I'll paint my face and yell in the mirror for 3 hours. After that, I'll practice climing the telephone pole in preparation for bringing down the Goal Posts. Come Sat. I'll be in peak form! Seriously, I can't see how the team won't be focused this week. JD has done an amazing job of keeping these guys focused this year. This is the last game of the season...we lose, we go home. If anything, this week will probably have the most focus of the entire season. Bucks? is there an NBA game in Cleveland Saturday? We all know what the 2 biggest games in the state are this weekend. First, UA vs. Miami....Second, BG vs. Toledo. I will enjoy watching the continuing fall of the evil empire throughout the week and next Sat. Go Zips, Go Blue!

From what little I've read about OU, it seems to be the general concensus that Knorr will most likely be shown the door after this game. So, do we face a demoralized team on Saturday that gives up if we get a quick score? Or, do we face a team that is going to fight to the end, tooth and nail, to try to save his job? Seems to me like this could be a case of backing a wild animal into a corner. If OU can knock us off along with Kentucky, might save their jobs. I think even if the team isn't fired up, the coaching staff will be throwing everything at us they can. Get OU a little fired up early, could be trouble. Hopefully we can see what type of killer instince JD has. I say we see a deep strike after our first, first down. Who's going to the game? I'll be there. I'm trying to hit one distant away game each year. (All home games and Can't State are distant for me anyway, but they don't count.) Almost went to NIU, but figured that was a sure loss after the MTSU game and figured we had a better chance at a W in Athens. Go Zips...Beat OU.

That is a classic! The first one for the Hall of Fame?

Excellent points by Quickzips. I am very happy with where we are right now, but I still don't think we can take any team lightly. Though I consider the Zips a better ball club than OU, I don't consider us that much better. They took Marshall to the wire and lost. We took Marshall to the wire and won. I think Can't has found something with Cribbs to make them successful as of late and that is why the blew them away. We never slammed the door on UCF or Ball State....time just kinda ran out. IMO, if OU brings their A game and we bring anything less than our A game, we lose on Sat. I just think that is the reality of it.

Actually, when I started reading the article I thought how JD had finally gotten LO off his back, and then, BAM, they had to mention it again. I think what is happening here is that the ABJ, after bashing UA for ditching LO, is now realizing that they were wrong and are trying to save face. Isn't it also funny how they are now typing a lot more articles about the Zips???? Hurry up, jump on the bandwagon! Unfortunately, they have two legs hanging off the back, if we lose this Sat, they jump off. You can't deny that LO got these guys to come to UA. I was one of the people who thought it was time for a change. I give him credit for moving us up a level from the Faust era, but he had hit his ceiling. I don't think Lee would have won the game Friday, for some reason he gave the team a "We could lose any game at any time" mentality. I think JD is moving us away from this...up to the next level hopefully.

Thanks for the kind words. Yea, it made me sick with how many Akron fans left too. But, honestly, I don't really blame them. Let me see, how many games in the past 10 years have we been up late on good teams and lost ......A LOT. How many times in the past 10 years have we been down on good teams and come back to win.....0. Well, I think I see why everyone left. The new coaching staff seems to have done something to change this....I don't know what, but I'll take it. We made critical stands against Can't, UCF, and Ball State and, somehow, came back on you guys. It'll take a while to change the perception of the program in the area though. I figure we've got about 7,000 hard core that will be at the games no matter what.

Did they leave the lights down? I bet they did hoping that ESPN would come back. Will they leave them down now that it is going to be televised, or will they just put them up and save some Cash? Glad to see the game moved....we'll get a lot more people since the OSU-Michigan game will be over.

Night game on Nov. 20th.....BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, but, I agree the attendence will be better. I hope it happens.

Though I find the scenarios thought provoking, I'm not that keen on the chance of winning thing. Just the fact that you started out with guessed percentages and are using that data to come to a conclusion that appears to have some mathematical significance (with one hundredths of a percent accuracy no less).....I don't know. 21% + 46.95%+23.23% = 91.18%..... where did the other 8.82% go?? I'm just giving you crap....I know it's fun to try to make predictions. I give us a 50% chance....either we win, or we don't. Actually, all I care about now is OU. We need to beat them or it's all off. I don't expect an easy game either. The Zips are not a team that can take ANY team lightly!
-
That is the only way to go. We need to build a reputation that we are an honest program. First thing we need to do is to beat Ohio. I'm sure JD will have the guys focused for that. In addition, did anyone notice that the Miami game is on OSU-Michigan Saturday? Can't underestimate that factor. My sister, who had a great time at the game on Friday, has already said she won't be at the Miami game so that she can simply be IN COLUMBUS during the OSU-Mich game.....MAC East on the line or not! Part of me hopes the game stays on Saturday so Mrs. Rifle can attend, but part of me thinks attendece will be abysmal due to the OSU-Michigan game and hopes the rumors of the game being moved to Friday will be true. I expect to see another "Fill the Bowl" program. Lets hope for nice weather! F-OSU!!!

Well, none of us had the balls to go over there before the game. If I don't talk smack on their board before the game, I won't after the game. (Actually, I don't have much smack) Where were your balls prior to the game? I didn't have the balls to go in there...honestly, 90% of college football fans would look at the facts and picked Marshall. Any of us would have been eaten alive. I followed some of your posts, looked to me like a lot of gloating. I'm not suprised that they banned you. Just your presence, some "Good Game" comments and something about our guys hanging in there and getting the bounce would have gotten under their skin even more, made you look more intelligent, and kept your posts where everyone could see them.
