  1. Or at least put something like "DaveZip_Guest" as your ID. Putting "zip" anywhere in your name is an easy way we can tell Friend from Foe.
  2. Well, in our defense, when we lose, everyone comes over here to tell us we suck. When we win, everyone comes over here to tell us that the other team REALLY sucked or that we just got lucky. The planets align and we are all excited about a bowl game, we get $#!t about it. So, we usually are defending ourselves when "Guests" show up.
  3. And they actually pay this guy for his job, amazing. Well, like I say, there are a lot of idiots out there and they need to work somewhere.
  4. I don't have cable, but being in Michigan kinda close to Lansing I don't think I'll have a problem getting the game. Z.I.P. YOU THE MAN Are you going to wear your Zips gear? You're probably taking a lot of $#!t from the locals huh?
  5. I don't care how much it costs. It's a BOWL! Consider it a future investment.
  6. League MVP is All MAC 2nd team..... Hmmmm. My guess is that there was some negotiating going on to get Frye the MVP. I'll take MVP over 2nd team QB. JD, Coach of the year, WOW
  7. I wonder how many times the BCS guys are going to have to redo this thing? I think there will be some very unhappy schools (The influential ones) and Bowls when this is all said and done.
  8. It all depends on which State team shows up. Team A beats up on Minnesota and Wiskey, takes UM to the wire. Team B loses to Rutgers, Penn State and OSU. I sure hope Drew Stanton and Team A show up.
  9. I have never really watched Jacobs play so I can't comment on his abilities, but I am suprised to see Frye at 2nd team. I think what happened was that the PSU, UVA, and NIU blowouts came back to bite him. He did show off his abilities in the MU and MU games though. Anyway, I think Frye is the kind of guy who will look at this as a modivating factor prior to his time in the NFL. I think the biggest thing everyone is missing here is how pissed off Gradkowski must be. WOW! After UT knocking off BG and winning the West, Gradkowski isn't even mentioned. I think that Cribbs definately needs to be the honarable mention, if any single person in the MAC carried a team, it was Cribbs. The Toledo fans must be LIVID! I'm going over there right now to see how pissed they actually are....
  10. I don't know what Michigan State team you've been watching, but depending on which team shows up, Hawaii might blow them out! Here's another thing, has anyone thought about what actually got us into this mess? I think it's because the NCAA limited the number of games played and mandated a specific number of DI-A games a home. Since the Mid-Majors need to play 5 DI-A home games, and the BCS schools won't travel, the Mid-Majors are playing each other and the BCS Schools are having to play each other. Throw a couple good Mid-Major upsets in there and BAM, here we are. I wonder if the BCS Schools will start pressuring the NCAA to make some more changes so they can prop up their records?
  11. Now that UCF has finished their perfect season, the OU fans are working hard to make OU my new most hated school. I somehow feel that justice has been served to UCF for all their smack talking and now, I'll have to find a new most hated team. When I went to the OU game, there were several VERY rude fans near the Akron section. Leaving Athens, all I heard on the post game show was how Akron wasn't very good and that OU was actually a better team but gave up too many turnovers. I couldn't believe what I was hearing...HELLO, we just beat you guys. Now, they are giving us $#!+ for being eligible for a bowl? Hey don't give us $#!+ because the system tilted in our favor...we didn't even think about getting to a bowl last year or in 99 when we had 7 wins. As far as the attendence thing, I know there were more than 20,000 at the game last Saturday. A little more thought makes me think there is something more going on here. I thought the attendence figures for both Buffalo and Ball state seemed high. I think we got nailed on it and someone made the decision to chop some numbers off the top of the Miami game so we don't get busted. Finally on the attendence thing, are they busting Miami's balls because they didn't avg. 15,000? They are the East Champs and got screwed by weather, is OU better than Miami?
  12. So, essentially what you are saying is that for Akron to get to a bowl, the MAC will need to get at least 5 bowl bids this season. I don't see how all three, 8-3 MAC West teams won't get a bowl invite over 6-5 Akron or Marshall. Honestly guys, I know we're all excited, but I really don't think this is going to happen. I think we get picked after Marshall and that means 6 bowls for the MAC.....not gonna happen, Sorry. JD will keep the troops ready just in case I'm sure. One more thing, Isn't it great that we're arguing about if we'll go to a bowl game or not!
  13. Please clarify. You are saying that another team is going to get credit for the DI-AA "X" win on their record. Akron has only played DI-A teams this season.
  14. My idea of "Akron Luck" is a lot different now than it was 3 months ago.
  15. Pretty good for a guy, a computer, and a room full of guns in the backwoods of Michigan eah?
  16. Typically folks, I don’t do this kind of thing, our sport of Target shooting is in need of your help. I’ll get to the details below, but in a nutshell, for the second year in a row, one of the TOP NCAA shooting programs is under threat to be eliminated. Last year it was West Virginia University who tried to eliminate a program that won 13 National Championships. Through the effort of countless persons, West Virginia changed their minds. Now, another top shooting school, Xavier University, has announced that they are eliminating their program. To sign a petition showing your support for the team, please go to: Xavier Rifle Petition -- Click Here! I’ll start out with some background on our sport of target shooting. It is an indoor sport that consists of shooting smallbore .22 rifles and air rifles at paper targets from 50ft and 10m respectively. In a typical match you can shoot anywhere from 100 shots to 160 shots over several hours from 3 positions, standing, kneeling, and prone. The goal is to hit a dot smaller than the width of your mechanical pencil lead, which is worth 10 points. No scopes are allowed while you are shooting. It is not a physically demanding sport in terms of shear strength, but is exhausting in terms of endurance. For example, in some matches I would hold my gun, for up to three hours in the standing position alone. Then, add another hour and 40 minutes for the other positions. Though it can’t compete with most sports in terms of being physically demanding, it is without a doubt the most demanding sport mentally. If you don’t believe me, try focusing on one, inanimate object for 5 hours straight and not let ANYTHING enter your mind but that object. I’m sure my tag (Zipsrifle) immediately conjures up images of some guy with a room full of guns living somewhere in the backwoods of Michigan. Sorry folks, you have the wrong stereotype of most of the shooters I know. Actually, the only guns I own are my target Rifles, I don’t hunt or fish, and I live in the burbs. First of all, most of my teammates in college were female. Most of my shooting friends are now engineers, architects, teachers, nurses, policemen, accountants, lawyers and other professionals. The point that I am getting to is that I feel there are other forces that are trying to down the Collegiate shooting teams. It has to do with the fact that guns are associated with the sport. It has nothing to do with the fact that it is probably the safest of all NCAA sports. Nothing to do with the fact that is teaches exceptional self-discipline that is carried over into other areas of life. Rifle shooting is relatively inexpensive for the Universities. Most shooters have their own equipment and the teams are small which means small food and lodging bills. The sport is unique in that it is co-ed and actually UA has had more female shooters than male shooters for some time now. Most shooters are very focused on their education since the next level is Olympic and National teams. If you would like to join the nearly 350 persons from across the country that have already voiced their opposition to Xavier’s decision today alone, click the link above. Thanks for all your help! Go Zips!
  17. This weekend the Zips shot against Morehead State University. (Uh, Uh, Uh, He said MORE HEAD!) Some time ago, one of my fellow shooters was at the National Matches in Port Clinton. She was talking with another shooter who was on the team at Morehead State. The Morehead shooter laughed at her when she said proudly that she shot at Akron. Despite the fact that UA knocked off Morehead that year, I still hold a grudge against Morehead. Moving ahead to today, some of my inside sources said that prior to the match on Saturday, Morehead again appeared confident that the would come away from Schrank South with an easy win. As you will see, they were turned away by BOTH Zips squads. This was a Quality win for the Zips, Morehead has essentially owned us in the past. They broke some more records on the way too. Oh yea, one more thing, I figured they knocked off Morehead Saturday night because I asked someone at the Game with a Morehead hat on how they did in the Rifle match on Saturday morning.... All I got was a dirty look. Keep up the good work Zips! Varsity Rifle Team Date: November 20, 2004 Location: The University of Akron Event: Akron –vs- Morehead State University, KY Sarah Kramer leads Zips Rifle to Victory School Records continue to be shattered! The record breaking season continued this weekend as the Zips sharpshooters out shot the Morehead State University Eagles by over 100 points. And in the process the Zips set yet another new school record. Senior Sarah Kramer captured top honors as match winner in both smallbore rifle (579) and air rifle (388). “Sarah continues to set the pace for the team by being a leader on the range and in the classroom,†states coach Newt Engle. Other strong finishers in smallbore included senior Joe Milano (576) and sophomore Laura Kuntz (574) who fired a new personal best in smallbore. With the air rifle, junior Angie Engle (387) fired her new personal best this season earning her 2nd place air rifle, with junior Joe Milano (382) a close third. The coach was especially pleased with the fact three other teammates earned scores in the 380’s. “The University of Akron rifle team has never experienced the type of depth we have established this season,†states coach Engle. The team air rifle score of 1533 was only two points shy of tying the school record. However, the combined scores of smallbore (2297) and air rifle (1533) for a total of 3830 did beat the old record of 3822 set just last year against Duquesne. “The abilities of our athletes continue to impress me,†states coach Newt Engle, “We keep making progress at an amazing rate which needs to continue through the end of the season.†With one of the longest seasons in the NCAA, rifle starts in September and finishes up with the championships in March. The record breaking season will continue on December 4th when the Zips will be host to the Fighting Engineers from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology of Terre Haute Indiana. This is the last home match of this semester and will start at 9am in room #7, Shrank Hall South. Enough food to feed both teams, graciously supplied by The Kuntz’s and Bill & Susan Chapman. Both teams thank you.
  18. ZFF I'm in your court thinking that the MAC office won't be helping Marshall much. But, remember, this is a buisness. Knowing how well Akron travels and how well Marshall travels, I think it's going to be tough for the MAC to meet any attendence commitments if UA goes to a Bowl anywhere but Detroit.
  19. I'm going to get beat up on this one, but I think there were a few positives with the Zips not winning on Sat. (OK some are a little selfish) I'll get the selfish stuff out of the way first. The only Bowl game I can make it to is the GMAC bowl. For the other Bowls, I already have a X-Mas vacation booked and being as cheap as I am, I'm not going to throw a couple grand away to make it to the Zips first bowl. Honestly, I gave it some thought, but I can't justify it. My second concern is also selfish, but in a UA sort of way. Honestly, I don't want JD to become the next Urban Meyer. We all know JD is a mover and shaker. He came beating down UA's door when it seems others had to be shown where the door was. If he were to turn this program around too fast, he'll be HOT property with nothing to keep him in Akron. I'm afraid that if the program builds too quick, we'll be good, but won't build up the fan base with the success and if we get a crappy coach afterwards, we'll be in the same position we were last year, good talent, not great coaching. I'm hoping that it takes JD a little while (3-4 more years) to get this program where it will be contending for the MACC every year. By then, we'll have built up our fan base, hopefully a new stadium under construction, and JD will have a lot of time and effort invested here. Makes it harder for him to leave, easier for UA to give him more money. I think JD is the real deal and I'm thinking long term right now.
  20. Prior to the game last night, I was glad the Zips were in the MAC East Championship game, but didn't know if they were necessairly the 2nd best team in the East. After the game, I know we are the 2nd best team in the East. We showed up and played hard. Miami took out Toledo and they are a damn good team. We were fighting Miami tooth and nail. It is amazing how much progress this team has made this season. IMO, anyone in the MAC could have beaten us at the beginning of the year. We made steady improvement every week to get where we were last night. All the Marshall and OU excuses about not winning if we didn't get the turnovers, well, last night we got what, one turnover? We still ran with Miami and it was our fault we didn't win. Swiger missed a FG, that cuts the final margin to 7. If we can Protect frye and establish a running game, we would have taken this one. But we couldn't, we gave our best, and it was a great game. I'll tell you what, Miami has some outstanding athletes. When Biggs was open deep late in the game, 5 let it fly and I thought it was for Big(gs) yards easy. Then out of no where, I'm guessing it was the safety, comes flying across to knock the ball away. Their D backs knocked down a lot of passes last night. Didn't see that against the other MAC schools. I was a little pissed at the refs for missing a very obvious pass interference against Jabari and never calling the Miami O-Line for a Hold, but, same old same old. Oh yea, what the hell was the sideline warning. I saw 1/2 of the Miami team on the field at least twice and WE get a sideline warning???? Bottom line, we needed 60 minutes of our A game. We got about 40. Miami was the better team and deserved to win. I credit the steady improvement this season to JD and expect another winning season next year. I am actually not that disappointed about losing last night. I'll elaborate late. Nice season guys. Go Zips!
  21. According to the Stinkin' Urinal there were 17, 410 at the game last night. NO WAY. The home stands were packed full and the visitor stands were about 2/3 full and the endzone section was about 1/2 full. For a 31,000 seat stadium, that is well over 20,000. I actually thought the crowd was almost as good as the Marshall game. I don't know who is in charge of counting people at the Rubber Bowl, but this is the 2nd game this year where I think they are WAY off with the attendence. Oh, well, doesn't matter, we made our quota.

    BEAT BLUE

Didn't get to the game....it was raining and I just figured they would reschedule to match to Saturday. Honestly, I don't know squat about soccer except that you kick the ball and that you score by putting it through a goal. I didn't think they played in the rain. Even if I knew, I guess you can call me a fair weather soccer fan. I don't think I would sit in the rain for a soccer match.....sorry guys. Well, good job this season guys, if it's not raining next year and you're at UofM, I'll probably show up. Ya know, I bet they play at Eastern, I'll have to make the trip there too.
  23. Good to see that Maimi is looking ahead to the Bowls. I'll tell you what, the only bowls the Zips will care about for the next 2 days are the ones they'll be eating their cereal out of and the one they will be playing in on Saturday. Win on Saturday, the Bowls will be there. Go Zips!
  24. I think it will be 20K but don't think there will be many students from Miami. Unfortunately my Brother is a Redhawk and he couldn't talk ANY of his Frat brothers to make the trip with him? .....WTF???? They were going to get free pre-game food and beverages from his Zips Fan brother. If Miami can't get their Frat Boys to make a road trip for a Division Championship game with free Drinks on top, they are really going to have attendence problems in the future. Should be a good home town crowd and I know my group will be making noise, I know we're loud because at the away games people ask us shut up . Can't wait, I think we're in for a good game. I'm packing up right now. Go Zips! Oh, yea, I'm going to try to make the Soccer game tomorrow, if I can get out of work. Anyone else going to be there?
  25. Well put Z-P. Sweiger was off last weekend. That would have killed us against a better opponent. I say he makes 4 and the Zips win...33 - 31.
