What do Zips Fans Really think?
Zip Watcher replied to MDZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Couldn't agree more. To me, it's a pointless discussion.Go Zips!! All of them. -
THAT is why we need to play more road OOC games
Zip Watcher replied to Quickzips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
You do realize the Zips have won on the road in conference, already, don't you? -
That game might have been the definition of a beatdown. Great win.Nice to see Chris & Jimmy battling for the boards. How good are the Zips if these two get competitive with each other and play out their senior year like this?I'm pretty sure I could see Zeke getting more comfortable and more aggressive by the minute tonight. It's as if he feels better (no wraps or braces on the knees) and came to the realization that he can play in this league. Right now. Good game from Zeke.I never thought this before tonight, but I like Fletcher's game. He's tough. Had little help inside, and no way he can be effective in a game like this playing 30+ minutes. But he had an ok game for them. Maybe he's going a little Conyers for Miami .. I don't recall him being a significant factor before. B) Big win!Go Zips!

I don't doubt you on this, but do you have some kind of link where he is quoted as saying this?unfortunately I don't have a link as the source of the info is my human source.Looks like we're on the hunt for the missing link Aside from the infamous "I think I'll give ground while in my own end zone" play, Alexander played pretty well, especially for a true FR. I wouldn't have any problem at all with him as the "featured" back. If Browning can kick-start the O-Line, it's not hard to imagine the running game improving dramatically over last year.I'm pretty sure that RI said as much in either his introductory press conference or an interview very soon after. He said he favored a traditional pro-style offense and not the spread.Go Zips!

Elton's stumping for UA/Can't State/CSU/YSU

Why would Dayton, Xavier and UC agree to do this? -
Elton's stumping for UA/Can't State/CSU/YSU
Zip Watcher replied to MDZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I think a 2 day round robin would work pretty well.Day 1: UA vs YSU & CSU vs. Can't StateDay 2: Can't State vs YSU & CSU vs UAPerhaps the site rotates between the Q/Wolstein, The new downtown Y-Town place, and Plusquellic Pavilion .. ? -
Look what the Canadian's are up too
Zip Watcher replied to plowerman78's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
You guys came into this season as the Big Dog in the conference, you won it last year and by the looks of things are favored to win it this season (Buffalo might be gaining some ground). So of course everyone in the MAC wants to knock off the Big dog... what else to look forward to? EMU? Ball State? Ohio? Thanks for stopping by. But are Bulls fans really over OU? I thought that was pretty heated. -
I have no idea what the salaries involved are, but wouldn't Temple be a way better place to be than ECU? Seems like the upside in Philly is really limitless for him if he keeps the Owls on their current trajectory.Go Zips!

Yep .. Hipsher's 1999-2000 team started 8-1 in the MAC, and finished 11-8 (including the MAC tourney loss @ home vs. CMU). It was really a great finish. -

Not sure what the first 4 was, but one of Hipsher's teams started out 8-1 one season.Go Zips! -

I disagree. UA smoked BG by 26 @ home. UB needed a last second shot to get out of BG with a win. The Zips had a lull in the part of the OU game adapting to the sudden loss of Roberts. The rotations will be a bit better sorted coming into this game, because they'll have an idea of what to expect from Roberts. If the Zips lose this, I think it will be very close. I do think it's possible the Zips could lay the hammer down on UB. It has the potential to be a real statement game. If the Zips continue to generate a big rebounding advantage and play the defense they're capable .. they'll be fine. UB doesn't bring any of the things to the table that give the Zips trouble, namely great one on one ball handling guards that can break down the defense, or long rangy perimeter players that are able to disrupt the Zips entry pass. The lineups are similar .. the matchups are similar. The Bulls just don't present the kind of problems that URI or A&M posed.I do like having this one and the OU and Can't State games on the road in the first East swing. I think the schedule favors the Zips down the stretch having 3 of 5 at home to finish up, including UB and Can't State who ought to be the other big contenders in the East.Go Zips! B) B) -
How can you possibly take Young Fit Jimmy "the King" Conyers .. and turn him into Ponch?! I'm stunned.Thank you very much. B) B) Go Zips!!

I don't know anything about where he changes, or if he's Superman .. but I do think that he's fast becoming the MAC's King of the Boards. He's got opposing coaches & fans all shook up .. of that I'm sure.

Before BG blew it tonight against the Canadians .. I was tied for first. Bummer.

If You Are Familiar with Bobcatattack.com...

I was only able to watch the first half last night .. but listened to the whole game, and it seems like the refs last night stayed away from a few flops each way.It ought to be a PF in the most obvious cases. -

Take off, eh. -
That sounds like some great news.Go Zips!

I assume you would expect Can't State to play in the Final on Saturday .. that would be 25-8
-
You can also email the show:jon@sportsradio1350.comIt would be good for the Zips if this show survives & thrives. The guys do bring up the Zips on their own .. they're 6 days into this, and I the the show's gonna go where the callers take it. Thus far, I'm guessing there have been about 4 calls / hr .. tops.Go Zips!

Why does it look that way?Because that's what Adam Rittenberg says on his blog, per Tom Dienhart of Rivals.com. Same with the Illini message boards. Thanks for the reply & info.I liked the work Vince did while here .. but at the same time, I'm amazed that RI continues to bring in coordinators from BCS programs to be coordinators @ UA. Position coaches on down this seems to be a very experienced staff. One thing I think UA will generally be indebted to Mike Thomas for was adopting the culture that in order to be a big time program (in any sport), you need to act like you are, prepare like you are, resource like you are big time. Almost walk the talk before you walk the walk. There was a blog post a season or so related to hoops (not here at ZN.O) where the guy remarked (& quoted other MAC coaches) about how the Zips walk around the Q like they own the place and they've won the MAC Tourney 5 times running. This was before the break through last March. I think that's the same thing. Be big time .. prepare .. work .. play like you're an elite program. Lose any constraints brought upon yourself by thinking within the confines of being a MAC school. The fall might just be interesting.Go Zips!

Or maybe he made the mistake of saying exactly what he is planning to do.....In the history of Zips athletics, no "Mr. Football/Mr. Basketball/"Super-Duper All-Star" has ever made a meaningful contribution. In fact, all have been HUGE busts, often barely seeing the playing field or court.Marcus Sanders, Christian Morgan, Nate Robinson, Ryan Bain, John Carson, Emmanuel Smith, Derrick Tarver, etc etc etc.You left our current Super-Duper All Star off the list... Mr. Massillon himself.Back so soon? Which BCS program have you adopted as your favorite team?
