By now, it is quite evident that Quincey did in fact get screwed by an over zealous university administration. Could it be that certain administrators were punishing Coach Dambrot whom they dislike? I would love to see Quincey back in an Akron uniform and having a great senior season. He has earned it. I speak truth, thank you for an incisive post.

Tantalizing ... !!!!

In my mind's eye I am having great difficulty in seeing Alex Abreu in a Zips uniform in the future. Aside from any criminal aspects (let us leave that to the courts), Alex's appearant selfish attitude is a poison. Wichita State defeated number one ranked Gonzaga. Interviewed the players spoke of everyone playing as a team. Alex made it a point that he is for Alex and only Alex. Sorry, that does not equate to being a team. While we all long for a championship and continued improved play, it cannot happen when led a by a self absorbed person. Either Akron is a team, or it is a collection of individuals all wearing the same uniform. Which is it? I often ponder Alex's behavior and comments. Last Sunday many churches had as their Gospel reading the Prodigal Son. The prodigal was welcomed home and feted with a celebration of his return. Great, I am all for that. There remains a distinct difference with Alex. To this point he has shown no contrition and resolve to be a better person. He is still poison. That Coach Dambrot wants the best for Alex is great. That is as we expect and will support. Forgiving Alex is part of who we are. Alex has to change his life to be full participant in the Zips community. Until he changes and is contrite he is not a full member of the community. Do the work, Alex. Man up. Thank you in advance for hate mail to follow.

Good grief. The author meant to say "Diggs". Give it a rest.

The reality is simple. VCU out athleted the Zips. Michigan out athleted VCU. The Big Ten has better athletes than does the A-10. The A-10 has better athletes than the MAC. p.s. district baller, sorry pal, you have worn out your welcome here.

Ken Carmen sounds like a great reason to boycott that sleazy, fleabag station. Is there time to get a replacement host? Lest I give that dirtbag an earful.

A decent , thought out line up chart. Would like to point out that Kretzer is currently the back up to Treadwell. Harney will most likely be the starting small forward being backed up by McAdams. No evidence that Quincey will return. Mostly wishful thinking by many (including me). The Zips badly need a third point guard. Betancourt is far from being a good point guard. A lot will depend on his work over the Summer. Carmelo has the potential. Potential is one thing; actually performing is different. He needs to improve his skill set. That is done by working hard in the off season. Prediction: he will not step up; too lazy. Now, before everyone jumps all over me (and some will anyway), Melo has not yet taken on the mantle of hard working ass busting point guard. Carmelo has a swagger he not yet earned. For me, I would love to see Quincey back; especially as the sixth man. There he could be inserted where ever his skills are needed. Q did a GREAT job as the sixth man two years ago. I agree he is a senior and had earned a starting role. Still, the Zips need his versatility. Overall, the 2013-14 edition of the Zips will be better than this year. Yes, even with Zeke (gonna miss him) gone.

Wont play basketball. Will have difficulty making grades. Two sports in college is a rarity. And, YES, the young Mr. Lane is a darn good athlete.

Akron offered Joshua Williams the first day they were allowed to. The Zips have plenty of competition for his skills. Wait 'n see. -
Nice Article on Walk-On Darius Hoisten
GoZips replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Darius has progressed through the season from a skinny, awkward kid into a decent ball player. His grades from high school were suspicious. A number of people thought that Darius would drop out of the program early on. He did not. He stuck with the team. His grades are sufficient to keep him in school. People like him. Darius seems to absorb and accept every bit of platitudes given to him. He just gets better. His attitude is first class. IMhO he will get some playing time next season in other than "garbage time". Just do the work. Frankly, Zeke Marshall's comment in Micheal Beavan's Akron Beacon Journal is a great thumb nail sketch of Darius. “Darius has gotten a lot better since he has gotten here,” 7-foot senior center Zeke Marshall said. “He works hard to make our team better any way he can. I have seen him get better and better as the year has gone on. When he first got here, I thought: ‘OK, he is a walk-on.’ He couldn’t shoot that well, and he wasn’t very confident. You can see his confidence coming up and he is shooting the ball a lot better. He is driving to the basket. I am actually considering him more of a threat on the red team than any other person. I like that he is getting better at making us better as he gets better.” -

Marcie Alberts with her lineage and experience could be a great head coach in waiting. Let us see what Jodi Kest does in the next few weeks as she will be in demand. Coach Kest has taken a moribund program from the pits of hell to a true contender for a MAC crown. No mean feat. Kudos to coach Kest. She will be in demand at the next level (power six conference). Does she cash her chips now or stay another year and go for prize? -
The ONLY way you will watch the game is if its raining/cyclone in Hawai'i. You'll never get yer rump off the beach.

The Athletic Department and the Ticket Office are scrambling to buy up any allotted tickets that other schools do not use. Akron's original allotment (same as the other seven schools) was 550 tickets. Best bet: buy your tickets through Stub Hub or Ticket(got you by the nads)Master. Cheap place to stay. The Days Inn at Fifteen Mile and Van Dyke. Seedy, comfortable and cheap. King size beds, 260 channel cable TV and a small in your room fridge and free Wi-Fi. Off street parking hidden from the prowlers. A safe place to lodge. Recommended by GoZips. And easy, walk across the parking lot to a nice Tim Horton's.

Once Tree wears a pair of socks in a game he never wears them again. Always new socks for each game. -
The WNIT has a field of 64. Akron bidding to get a home game in the first round. They will know around midnight. The Lady Zips are having their BEST season ever. They deserve all the support we can give them.

It is a shame that at 27-3 Toledo did not get an NCAA bid. Was told by a well placed source that Toledo just did not have wins over quality opponents because they scheduled light.

MAC Championship - Behind the Scenes Documentary
GoZips replied to ZipsBrad's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
LOL, had to view it a second time to see my fat butt. About fifty-five seconds in there I was waddling along in the Q lobby. I am hoping they release the inspirational/motivational pep talk that was shown on the bus ride to the Q. I have not seen it myself. Though, I have a 16 second speaking part at the end of the video. Nice gift to me from the team. -
Just a rumor. But, it was positive.

Chauncey Was Out - Now Back, and Kicking @ss

Spoke with Chauncey an hour after the selection show. He is pumped. A grin from ear to ear. Think he is out of the dog house and back in good graces. Given the opportunity to show his stuff he delivered. Am darn proud of him. Think he will "FINISH" nicely. -
WHAT...???? Dambrot wants Quincey back so badly he can taste it.

Yes, that game has been replayed on Time-Warner sports Channel a couple of times. We will get to watch Isiah Johnson as his Walnut Hills team advanced to the Final Four. Unfortunately, Gahanna Lincoln lost; so, no more TV of Aaron Jackson. In other news, BJ Gladden's Olympic HS won the North Carolina class 4A championship today. Olymic Wins -
I concur. The fly in the ointment is just where Toledo goes. IMhO ... Toledo deserves and has earned an at large NCAA bid. Of course, getting it would enhance Akron's chance at an NIT bid. The CBI/CBT are last resorts. Neither are worthy of the effort the Lady Zips put forth. And, as always ... I WANT AKRON OUT OF THE MAC

Western Michigan tanked early against Ohio. At half time WMU concocted a plan that nearly won the game for them. Double team DJ Cooper nearly every time he touches the ball on offense. This simple plan nearly took down OU. Had the deficit (seventeen) been a little smaller or the game a few minutes longer WMU might have pulled the upset. The Zips brain trust watched the WMU/OU game from courtside. Hopefully they spotted the double teaming and the results.

I completely agree. Hopefully one of the incoming freshman will take number eleven and help erase the sting. As your son did (great idea) convert those #11's into #1 to honor Akron's great power forward. Actually, you can make a couple of scenarios regarding #11. A.) should #11 just be put away for a couple of years; B.) be given to an incoming freshman likely to be red shirted; C.) given to a player expected to play as a freshman; or, D.) go to Nyles Evans the JUCO transfer likely to quickly become Akron's starting point guard?
