  1. I would like to put a small group together (3 or 4) and share expenses. Anyone interested send me a PM Go Zips
  2. Melo is starting to "get it". "Practice, practice, practice" does not mean just team practice. It means what it says. He is finally shooting before practice, shooting after practice, taking one on one drills from the coaches. I think the light went on and it does not say "TILT". Good job, young man.
  3. I asked Zeke yesterday (Monday, Feb. 25) about the dunk. To paraphrase his response, Zeke did not hang on the rim. What you see in the replay is the release of kinetic energy from his forward motion. It was, simply put, a hasty, bad call.
  4. Well, we could do with them just as we do with the horses here on the farm. We'll castrate all but two and put those two where they can not breed with the French horn players.
  5. I'll take two, both XL. Great idea. Has possibilities. Beats the Terps re-stealing our "Fear the Roo"
  6. Here is a great way to settle your disapproval of my point of view. Ask Coach Dambrot whether I am a real Zips fan or not. BTW, DiG, thank you for the rules clarification. By the NCAA definition Zeke clearly did not violate their rule. Most of forty-four hundred plus fans at the game roared their approval of your view, NOT.
  7. After today's win at Cant and BG's loss at Miami the Lady Zips have sole possession of first place in the MAC East. Akron is 9-4; while both BG and Miami are 8-5 and share second place. There are three regular season games to play. Fortunately for the Lady Zips they play Miami at home. Akron won the game played in Oxford. Its a chance to have their first ever 20+ win season and a first round bye. Go Lady Zips ... !!!!
  8. Yes, you would be. In fact, you were last night. According to ESPN they had a camera on you when Zeke made his spectacular dunk. The commentators were remarking about how exuberant you were. That means that all of us right around you were just as crazy acting with our "high-fives" and dancing. Perhaps someone who watched the game on TV could comment. BTW, it saddens me that a so called or at least a self-proclaimed Zips supporter wrote that the Technical foul was a legitimate call. Pardon my French, but you are a total flamer and no Zips fan. For the fans to celebrate and respond as the Maryland students did some one needs to put a muzzle on Akron pep band. It is not only loud and overbearing it is much worse ... it it intrusive, The director fires up the band at the least sliver of silence and bangs the band onward even into when play on the floor has resumed. It is ugly and not conducive to crowd participation. Obviously the Maryland mosh was well co-ordinated and timed. Perhaps it can be tried at Akron. I hope so. Final note: Interesting that Maryland has resurrected the "Fear the Turtle" after they long ago ceded that slogan to Akron. Mean while, Akron Marketing is repeatedly trying to KILL any reference to "Fear the Roo". Bad marketing.
  9. Agreed. It was a terrible call. In a game full of biased anti-Akron calls. Those of you who watched the game on TV did the calls and the booing look as bad on TV as it seemed in the JAR?
  10. Akron only has ONE scholarship to give next year. Rest assured that the three players on the Zips radar are light years better than Javon Bess. Nothing against Bess. Javon is a decent mid-major caliber player. He does not fit the profile of the level of recruit Akron is targeting.
  11. It could work out that way. This will depend on what either Chauncey or Reggie show when given their chance. Not likely to be Deji, he sometimes forgets to play defense. Jake is a possibility as he has the tools and is a huge mismatch as Jake is now close to 6' 8". Anybody notice this? Jake is likely to grow to six-nine. A power forward playing the two guard slot. Akron really is a big team.
  12. Chauncey knows this is his chance. To that extent Chauncey was still shooting jump shots 30 minutes after practice ended. Do NOT count Chauncey out of the mix. He is primed.
  13. "Jae'Sean" sure sounds like DE-von on the TV. The REAL jist`of the story is that Akron incoming recruit, Aaron Jackson, out played the big, strong, skilled Devon/Jae'Sean Tate. To be sure, Tate is impressive to watch and he was surrounded by talented team mates. While the TV announcers were slobbering all over themselves sing Tate's praises Aaron Jackson OUT PLAYED Tate. Jackson was the star and key player for Gahanna Lincoln even though the TV wonks were singing about Javon Bess of Lincoln. Javon is himself a pretty decent player (mid-major caliber). Bess is Lincoln's leading scorer. He has not had the disciplinary suspensions that Aaron has played through. Make no mistake; Aaron Jackson is Gahanna Lincoln's best player.
  14. The Gahanna Lincoln vs. Pickerington Central HS boys basketball game is being shown on Time-Warner Sports Channel this evening at 7 PM. Aaron Jackson scored twenty points and did a good overall job of leading his team. See chnl 311.
  15. Simply put: Drexel's RPI was 67-70. The NCAA selection committee never selects a team with that low an RPI UNLESS the team is in one of the Power Six conferences. The Zips RPI is in the 40s which gives rise to the genuine speculation that Akron could get an at-large bid; but, it is a long shot. An awful lot depends on what high majors grab available at-large slots. The NCAA selection committee is not champion of equality/fairness/or other blarney.
  16. This season is Ohio's swan song. Like Cant graduating or in their case running out of eligibility, Ohio loses four seniors and has a thin bench. While they have a couple of nice incoming recruits, Ohio is not likely to be one of the MAC's top dogs next season. Ahem, the Zips will simply continue to dominate due to their depth and excellent incoming class. Akron has by now clearly shown that they no longer recruit the same players as the rest of the MAC. Hey, I thought this thread was about attendance. The JAR looked pretty full the past several games. Even drawing over 5200 on a midweek night against a conference foe sporting a losing record and had been stuffed by Akron two weeks ago. Akron fans are NOT impressed by a college town that has nothing to do other than slobber knocking drinking. Arenas tend to draw crowds proportional to their capacity. When Akron gets their new arena the attendance will increase accordingly. For those old enough to remember, back in the 1980's there was a lot of carping about building the then large capacity JAR because they will never fill it. Three thousand was seen as a huge crowd. Today, fans whine if the attendance is less than 4,000. Its like a troll's waist line. It is forever expanding. Nicole for Mom of the Year ... !!!!
  17. And, yeah, I like Tom Wistrcill and respect him because I actually know the man personally. I am not bloviating from six hundred miles away.
  18. I am looking for a Saturday ride down and back to Oxford for the Zips game. Might be able to "comp" tickets to help offset the costs AND sit with Akron fans.
  19. Excellent question. I was at the game, but, unfortunately I was at the far end of the court. So, like you, I was puzzled. I woke at 5 AM to watch the replay on TV. As near as I could tell "Tree" was whistled for a phantom foul. There seemed to be any number of those. "Tree" was near under the basket with his hands in the air in what appeared to be a plaintiff call to the officials as to what the foul was. Technically he could get a technical foul assessed if he used profanity. There was no physical contact that I could see. He was upset to the point that Coach pulled him from the game for the rest of the half. "Tree" picked up a rather lame fourth foul midway through the second half. Incidental contact would be the best description. Oddly, this foul occurred at the Zips end of the court and Akron in possession of the ball. For what ever reason, "Tree" picked up his game and led the Zips to the win. You can name whom ever you want as the Offensive, Defensive or Player of the Game. In my eye "Tree" was the catalyst that willed the Zips to victory.
  20. That makes two of us. For my money, "Tree" was our true player of the game. Overall the Zips hammered out a win against stiff adversity. Had to chuckle that over on a CMU board a poster was complaining about not getting foul calls. Not sure he was watching the same game we were at. Zips had eight first half fouls; CMU two. A tad lopsided to be kind. Pat Forsythe played like a Freshman. He is still a step slow. Pat needs to know where he is on the court especially where the foul lane is. Way too many three second violations. The potential is there. Take a deep breathe, Pat, and play on. You will be a great player soon. Alex is stepping up. The Freshman clones, Reggie and Jake continue to improve. The game was a lot closer and scarier than the final score shows. Zeke, two games in a row you step in bounds before delivering the inbound pass. In the Ohio game you got caught. Tonight you and the Zips dodged a bullet. That is a lack of concentration. Mental lapses seem to plague the Zips in general. Keno Davis had a great game plan. Keith Dambrot had one equally good and an extra supply of "horses".
  21. I think that Coach Dambrot has St. Mary's or Wichita State in mind.
  22. A quick look at the RPIFORECAST.com site shows that Akron, Ohio and Western Michigan all have RPI's under 100. Thus, it is likely that three MAC teams will get prime time television. Some how, I can not believe that ESPN is going to allow that to happen. They are, after all, a strange clump of ducks.
  23. The Zips had Creighton here last year. We "upset" them then and they would NOT come back even if offered.
  24. Troll, don't you have your own board to bloviate on? btw, get a new screen name that traitor has been selling used cars for several years now. gawd, I hope ZipsNation posters are not infesting the OU gagpile.
  25. Gosh, you mean that he still ......CHEATS?
